Item #: SCP-3407

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-3407 is to be kept at Bio Site-103 within a reinforced and locked greenhouse, with guards posted at all times. The greenhouse must remain constructed over SCP-3407’s pond and any threat to the structure’s integrity must be reported and addressed immediately.

Level 3 clearance is required for entry and all are subject to mandatory searches before and after. SCP-3407 is to remain rooted within its pond which contains the soil and water in which SCP-3407 was originally transported to Site-103. The soil at the bottom of the pond is not be tampered with under any circumstances, and weekly checks of the waters PH are mandatory. Any abnormalities or changes to the water, stem, or bud of SCP-3407 are to be reported immediately.

Any personnel interacting physically with SCP-3407 must avoid skin contact with its pollen at all times. Respirators are also mandatory. If contact or inhalation occurs, personnel are to be removed from the cell and detained for questioning and psychoanalysis. Affected individuals are to be monitored closely for thirty-six hours until all effects of the pollen are nullified.

Any attempts to remove SCP-3407-01B are strictly prohibited.

Description:
SCP-3407 appears to be a single nelumbo nucifera. The closed bud is approximately 1.2m in diameter, held by a thick stem that is approximately 2.5 meters tall. The stem does not grow to any length beyond 2.5m and the bud will not open on its own regardless of soil quality, water quality, or exposure to sunlight.

SCP-3407’s petals are faint pink in color and firm to the touch. The petals are always 33.4C regardless of surrounding temperature. Personnel responsible for care of SCP-3407 report a strong fragrance that is not typical of a standard lotus. Forcibly opening the bud reveals a typical carpellary receptacle surrounded by a clear, thick, viscous membrane. Inside the membrane is a fully developed human(?) infant that seems to be in the final trimester of development. So long as the membrane is not punctured or torn the infant remains unconscious and SCP-3407 will re-close its bud. All attempts to fully remove petals from SCP-3407 have failed, as they regenerate within one to three hours and all severed petals wilt at an accelerated rate.

All tests performed on petals from SCP-3407 have yielded inconclusive results. Tests on the pollen have confirmed the particles contain a substance that dulls the senses and makes one more easily influenced. The exact substance has yet to be identified, but functions similar to [REDACTED].

During transport, Dr. F███ (E-5567) experienced acute inhalation of SCP-3407’s pollen. He experienced intense confusion followed by a period of unresponsiveness. After being roused, E-5567 seemed listless and uncertain, and promptly accepted any direction given even when the orders were questionable. He was detained and monitored closely. Once lucid after a thirty-six hour period, E-5567 reported that he heard distant singing which sounded like his deceased mother. This event was successfully recreated with seven D Class Personnel, including [DATA EXPUNGED]. D-8897215 was unaffected by SCP-3407 as an allergen despite being highly allergic to nearly every variant of flower pollen.

Attempts to cross-pollinate SCP-3407 with others of its apparent species have failed.

Suggestions to attempt to replant SCP-3407 within SCP-124 have been denied.

Suggestions to submit a tissue sample from SCP-3407-01A to SCP-1106 have been denied.

History: News of SCP-3407 first reached the SCP Foundation when reports that the citizens of [REDACTED], Somalia were constructing a strange stone monument around a large non-native flower. Interviews with citizens proved difficult as they seemed to forget the interview mid-sentence and attempt to keep working. Plans to investigate were expedited after one citizen commented “She opened it and saw the beginning of us.” The referenced “she” has yet to be identified but tests confirmed that citizens had experienced long term exposure to SCP-3407’s pollen.

Plans to relocate SCP-3407 were halted when Dr. B████ opened the bud and discovered the infant encased inside.

After clearance from Dr. Elliot, the recovery team attempted to uproot SCP-3407 to temporarily re-pot it for transport. Immediately upon exposing its root system to air, SCP-3407 rapidly began to degenerate. Attempts to replant SCP-3407 failed. The membrane split and the infant immediately gained consciousness, and it (dubbed SCP-3407-01) was given to Dr. B████ for care and transport (to Site-06-3?)

A original site of SCP-3407 was kept under surveillance and a year later it was reported that SCP-3407 had begun to regrow. Relocation of SCP-3407 proved successful the second time, as under Dr. Elliot’s orders they relocated a 7mx7mx7m area around SCP-3407, retaining all water and soil in contact with SCP-3407’s root system. SCP-3407 was then successfully introduced to a fresh pond in Site-103.

No new instance of SCP-3407 has regrown where it was originally discovered. Development of SCP-3407-01B has been confirmed.

SCP-3407-01A: [Note: Subject is completely autonomous and sapient and is therefore classified as Elucid.] Subject appears to be a young human girl(?) of Somali descent. They are dark skinned, dark haired, and dark eyed. They are exceptionally androgynous with little to no exhibition of secondary sex characteristics, and attempts to sequence their DNA has resulted in [DATA EXPUNGED]. Subject does not have an umbilical scar. Subject’s primary caretaker, Dr. B████, has give them the name “Hibaq”.

SCP-3407-01A’s growth was extremely accelerated for twelve months after being removed from SCP-3407. Within that year, 01A rapidly transitioned from infancy to childhood, and at present appears to be nine years of age. As of █/██/████ their growth has decelerated to a more average human rate. 01A is highly intelligent and seems to retain all information they are exposed to. Personnel are reminded to be cautious of what is discussed in 01A’s presence.

At current, 01A poses no immediate threat to any SCP Foundation personnel or structures. They have shown no aggression and seem to be generally distressed by violence. As such, subject is permitted to wander Site-06-3 with the exception of restricted areas. Subject must be returned to their personal cell at 19:00 each day. Adequate food, water, clean clothes, and clean bedding are to be given at request. 01A is shown to be capable of cleaning their personal cell and can be trusted with the supplies to do so.

Addendum: Update: SCP-3407-01A has asked about themself in relation to SCP-3407. Subject was not previously given knowledge of their origin. Dr. B████ assumed they learned their subject number and utilized the context of “01A” to theorize about SCP-3407 — but subject then directly referred to SCP-3407 as “my flower”. Interview is scheduled with 01A to assess their knowledge of their origin.

Addendum 2: 01A actively refers to themself and 01B as the same entity.

Addendum 3: 01A claims that they are not the first “seed” produced by SCP-3407. Subject jokingly claimed that they “perhaps should be called 01C”. Further in depth interviews have been scheduled.
