Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept at Site-17 in a cell which has been furnished by the object with a bed and a small reading table. In order to prevent manifestations of SCP-XXXX's anomalous trait, no individuals with a Cognitive Resistance Value of no less than 6.8 are permitted to engage in any conversation with SCP-XXXX in English. A notebook and pencil has been provided to it so that it may carry out conversations by writing.
Due to SCP-XXXX’s cooperative behavior with personnel, it may be occasionally be with a piece of broken hardware for it to reconstruct.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a male bipedal laboratory mouse (mus musculus) between 25 and 35 years of age (aging at a similar rate to humans) and standing approximately 1.9 meters in height on digitigrade legs. It possesses below average intelligence, but is fluent in both English and German. It has stated, however, that it does not remember how it learned either languages, and has known them for as long as it can remember.
SCP-XXXX’s speech is considered a cognitohazard, as any individual who communicates with it will experience a decrease in IQ at a rate of approximately █ points per minute of conversation. This process will cease after 60 seconds of silence between SCP-XXXX and the individual, or if the individual’s IQ has been lowered down to 68. Surprisingly, if an individual who already possesses an IQ lower than the aforementioned number, SCP-XXXX’s [DATA EXPUNGED].
This effect is, however, temporary, and all affected individuals, including SCP-XXXX, will revert back to their previous IQs over the course of 10 days. Strangely, however, this does not occur if SCP-XXXX uses German to speak.
SCP-XXXX has demonstrated an affinity for machinery, its favorite activity being dismantling electronics to “reconstruct” them into different machinery. These creations, however, are usually crudely-made and will not function properly. Though on one occasion, SCP-XXXX was able to reconstruct several smoke detectors into a working [DATA EXPUNGED], which was quickly confiscated by personnel.
History: SCP-XXXX was brought to the attention of the Foundation after several individuals, who had been arrested after robbing the ██████ Convenience Store at gunpoint in [REDACTED], had spoken to local authorities about a large rodent-like creature in the janitor's closet. Foundation agents embedded in [REDACTED] were alerted by the claims and discovered SCP-XXXX. It willingly accepted containment and was brought to Site-17 with little resistance. All residents living near [REDACTED] were given Class-A amnestics.
Addendum: Below is a transcript of a series of excerpts from SCP-XXXX’s journal, which had been found in SCP-XXXX's "room" in the building. While the number placed at the top of each note strongly hints at the existence of several hundred entries, no others could be found, and were likely destroyed by SCP-XXXX.
These excerpts have been translated from German to English.1
This is Algernon. Bad news. The city has, unfortunately, decided to tear down this old hospital complex. I'll likely have to move out soon. I'll talk to Drew in the morning about finding a new residence to settle into.
Maybe this was for the best, anyway. I had begun to notice this stench coming from the floor above me, and the only way up there seems to be an elevator, which is inoperable. At least I don't have to put time into repairing it.
