Description: SCP-XXXX is a large satellite of extrasolar origin. It is superficially similar in design to modern satellites and makes use of technologies that currently see wide use on human-built satellites including solar panels and chemical rockets. SCP-XXXX is equipped with a suite of advanced multi-spectrum sensors that have been optimized for short-range planetary imaging. It is unknown whether this surveillance equipment was designed for military or civilian purposes.
SCP-XXXX has sustained damage consistent with decades of space travel at a high speed this has destroyed some imaging sensors as well as one of the solar panels. X-ray imaging of the interior of the satellite has revealed what is believed to be some form of compact internally mounted fission reactor that serves as a redundant power source. This imaging also led to the discovery and eventual recovery of SCP-XXXX's main data storage device. The data recovered is currently under analysis (see addendum 1).
Every 16 days SCP-XXXX activates it's maneuvering thrusters in an attempt to reorient itself and point the imaging sensors at an unknown prespecified target. SCP-XXXX then captures and transmits a series of seven images in the full electromagnetic spectrum. This transmission is unencrypted and repeats on several frequencies.

Item 1. 13,223 multi-spectrum images of deep space, focused on a region of space near the constellation Eridanus (designated SCP-XXXX-1). SCP-XXXX-1 exhibits a much lower temperature than the observed average. Analysis of these images reveals that they have been captured continuously for the past 83 years at a rate of one image every 16 days.
Item 2. A single video file (see addendum 2).
Item 3. A highly compressed 3.7-exabyte database. The extraction of this data has been assigned to the newly built ATLAS supercomputer. This process is estimated to take decades to complete with currently available technology.

00:00:30 SCP-XXXX is in low orbit of a large terrestrial planet located in the Epsilon Eridani system. Vegetation, small oceans as well as significant evidence of intelligent life such as large cites and roads can be seen.
00:28:00 SCP-XXXX passes into the shadow of the planet. The lights of numerous large cites can be seen, with the majority in proximity to one or more ocean confirming that the planet is inhabited by advanced intelligent life. The population of the planet is estimated to be in the tens of billions.
01:17:47 SCP-XXXX is over one of the largest cites when a chain of explosions occur. These explosions are synchronized and centered on areas with high population extremely high levels of gamma radiation are detected suggesting the cause of the explosion was nuclear in nature.
02:52:21 The haze caused by the explosions has dispersed somewhat allowing further inspection of the effects of the detonations. Very little structural damage has occurred beyond a 2.4 km zone in the center of the blast radius. The radiation generated by the blasts has also declined rapidly at a rate that, if sustained, will result in non-lethal levels eight hours after detonation.

ANALYSIS NOTES: At 01:17:47 the inhabitants of the planet SCP-XXXX was orbiting simultaneously detonated nuclear weapons in all high population areas. These weapons were designed to release extreme levels of gamma radiation while limiting damage to infrastructure, likely as an anti-personnel weapon. The observed detonations are likely to have killed 70-95% of the planet's population, depending on the level of precautions taken by the citizens before detonation.
Due to the widespread and synchronized nature of this event it is unlikely to have been the effects of conflict between the planet's population. Instead, it seems to have been an act of suicide on a global scale. Additionally, this video reveals that SCP-XXXX was originally in orbit of a planet and not launched as a deep space probe. This suggests that SCP-XXXX was intentionally launched towards our solar system after the events of this video.

Utilizing the SPIRIT deep space telescope, SCP-XXXX-1 has been extensively imaged in the microwave spectrum. These images confirm the existence and position of SCP-XXXX-1 as reported by SCP-XXXX. This has led to the realization that SCP-XXXX-1 has been discovered before and is commonly identified as the CMB/WAMP cold spot. Aside from its unusually low-temperature SCP-XXXX-1 shows no anomalies effects at this time.
Further examination of images recovered from SCP-XXXX has resulted in the discovery that SCP-XXXX-1 is not stationary as first thought. SCP-XXXX captured images of SCP-XXXX-1 to track its progress as it approached Epsilon Eridani. After starting its journey to Earth SCP-XXXX continued to image SCP-XXXX-1, tracking its progress. These images show that after the detonations on 6/14/1937, SCP-XXXX-1 abruptly changed course and for the past 83 years SCP-XXXX-1 has been approaching Earth at an average speed of 0.10c. If it continues at its current speed it will reach Earth in 23 years.
It can be extrapolated that SCP-XXXX-1 selects a target planet based on the current distance and population. It can be theorized that the events on 6/14/1937 were an attempt by the creators of SCP-XXXX to reduce their own population and save themselves at the cost of redirecting SCP-XXXX-1 to Earth. While it is possible that they were unaware of our existence, it is unlikely, as for SCP-XXXX to reach us it had to be sent commands to break orbit and position itself on an Earthbound trajectory.

So, that is it then. After days of work that is the best plan they can come up with. Kill billions in the hope that this thing will decide to go kill someone else. I must admit that I was warned it would come to this. I was told when I took this position that one day…..one day I would have to make a choice. That when that day came I would have to do something horrible just to keep us alive for one more moment. Sometimes I wounder if she would approve of what I've done. The life's I have saved, the life's I have destroyed, all for the greater good.
