Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard holding cell, and provided with █ kg of Gumweed (Grindelia) every ██ days.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a sexless avian organism, most closely resembling a Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias). It is approx. 131 cm in height and 2.87 kg in weight, with a wingspan of 172 cm. The organism does not appear to have a digestive system, and does not have any tangible dietary needs. It exhibits passive behavior, and shows little to no interest in outside stimuli, with the only execption being Gumweed Grindelia.
Upon seeing any species of the wildflower present, SCP-XXXX will exert all possible energy toward consuming it. The longer SCP-XXXX fails to consume the wildflower, the more eratic its behavior will become. In this altered state, if any subject attempts to destroy, remove, or block the organism's path to the plant, SCP-XXXX will become highly aggressive and violent (towards the subject). If the path is cleared, or the Gumweed is returned, the organism will immediately cease attacking, and refocus to its consumption.
When SCP-XXXX consumes all present Gumweed, it will begin secreting a hallucinatory gas, referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. This mainly occurs by venting through the beak, although gas also discharges from all orifices present on SCP-XXXX, including pores. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 behave differently depending on how much Gumweed the organism has consumed. Notable variations are as follows:
- █ kg - Near-transparent gas, tinted yellow. Hallucinations are mild, subjects remain aware of the environment around them. Secretion lasts 2.5 minutes
- █ kg - Semi-transparent gas, creates yellow filter of surroundings. Hallucinations moderate, inconsistent. Subjects have wavering awareness of surroundings. Secretions last 5.1 minutes.
- █ kg - Foggy gas, bright yellow, difficult to see through. Hallucinations enhanced, subjects minimally aware of surroundings. Secretions last 8.6 minutes.
- █ kg - Thick gas, solid yellow, opaque. Hallucinations severe, subjects unaware of surroundings. Secretions last 10 minutes.
The gas has a hallucinatory effect on any creature that inhales it.1 Subjects report seeing visions of Gumweed floating inside of SCP-XXXX-1, despite all of it being consumed. If subjects are aware of the room, they often claim seeing it as a meadow, a river bank, or other scenes from nature. After testing, subjects believe that a very long amount of time has passed.2
Many subjects "felt drawn to" SCP-XXXX while under its influence, and attempted to touch or hold it. It is unclear if this affectionate behavior is simply a chemical side-effect of SCP-XXXX-1, or if the organism has a mind-controlling or mind-altering powers while in its comatose state. The organism remains passive and unmoving during these interactions.
