Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3720 is currently being contained in the Standard Containment Block at Area-42B-N. SCP-3720 is to be kept in a hazardous substance locker (currently locker #46) protected by a passcode available only to level 2 research personnel and higher.

Description: SCP-3720 is a biohazardous green liquid in a clear plastic-bottle labelled as Brilhante, a generic mouthwash brand. Currently, no such brand is known to exist apart from SCP-3720. The bottle containing SCP-3720 is labelled as containing 18floz (532.32ml), though only approximately 278ml remain in the bottle. Upon initial containment, only 528ml remained in the bottle. The bottle containing SCP-3720 has shown no anomalous properties.

When a subject uses at least 20ml of SCP-3720 for at least 1min as if it were standard mouthwash, a 12—24 hour period of strong dental hygiene promotion, termed post-use promotion, occurs immediately afterwards. During post-use promotion, subjects will become remedied of most forms of mild-to-moderate dental-health issues. Cavities are healed, tooth decay is reversed, and oral irritations (such as canker sores and blisters) are cleared. Further inspection of subjects’ mouths show whitening, strengthening, and general cleanliness of the teeth to be much stronger than that of standard mouthwashes. The enamel of the subject’s teeth will also be much stronger than it was before the subject used SCP-3720.

When a subject ingests at least 20ml of SCP-3720, it will take approximately 5—10mins for SCP-3720 to be digested into the subject’s body. If the subject used SCP-3720 for at least 1min, post-use promotion will occur as usual, but if not, no anomalous properties will occur for the following 5—10mins while awaiting digestion.

When a subject has successfully digested at least 20ml of SCP-3720, the subject will contract a disorder termed gastrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (GOP) identified as 3720-A. This disorder displays close similarities to fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), with the exception that 3720-A only affects the gastrointestinal system of the subject’s body, and no other organ-systems will be directly affected by it.

When a subject becomes afflicted with 3720-A, the disorder and its symptoms will manifest quicker and more aggressively than FOP. Most subjects will die within 48hrs of having ingested SCP-3720. Only one subject is known to have survived for longer than 48hrs (dying at approximately 55hrs).

Discovery: SCP-3720 first came to Foundation attention when a chemist known as Antonio █████ was detained in ███████, Chile for unlicensed distribution of the item. The purported properties of the item attracted the attention of an embedded agent in the area, who was then successful in obtaining the item from local law-enforcement officials. The chemist was taken into Foundation custody for interrogation. [REDACTED], immediately given class B amnestics and later released. Further on, the previous knowledge on symptoms of GOP have not been entirely true. At first, we assumed that ossification of the GI-tract always began in the mouth and ended in the colon, even though most victims died by the time ossification reached the small-intestines. But after [REACTED] some trials later, newer knowledge can be added to the literature.
In approximately 93% of GOP afflictions in trials ██—██, the ossification of the GI-tract starts in the mouth and works down through the esophagus, stomach, intestines, and then the colon. In the remaining 7% of GOP afflictions, however, ossification begins in the stomach and works through the GI-tract in both directions, up towards the mouth and down towards the colon.
The directions in which ossification spreads, mouth-to-colon vs stomach-to-mouth/colon, I’ve termed as osteogenous travel. When osteogenous travel spreads from mouth-to-colon, it’s termed mouth-initial osteogenous travel, and when it spreads from stomach-to-mouth/colon, it’s called stomach-initial osteogenous travel. The distinction between these is important, as symptoms manifest differently and death can present itself much quicker.
In mouth-initial GOP (3720-A1), symptoms occur, on average, in the same manner as in the original report. This is by far the more common form of GOP. Death normally occurs within 48hrs and often presents itself via suffocation or cardiac-arrest.
In stomach-initial GOP (3720-A2), symptoms occur differently. Usually, it begins with nausea, faintness, and severe stomach aches akin to appendicitis or menstrual cramps. After about 4hrs, the pain becomes severe, if not unbearable. And by the end of the day, after usually 10hrs, the victim will die.
Autopsies have revealed that victims that die from 3720-A2 always die from severe trauma caused to most organs in the lower-abdomen. When the stomach ossifies, the parts that turn to bone are unable to keep in the stomach-acid and are melted through. So as the stomach is solidifying, it’s also immediately being melted. Stomach-acid is dripping down into the intestines and causing massive damage, and this is what kills the victims quicker. At least two subjects started leaking stomach-acid from their anuses and were defecating chunks of their own melted guts. I've never seen anything like it.
And I've never thought I’d ever have to say anything like this, but something this horrible would make me prefer having my trachea crushed by my own solidified esophagus.

S: Just like I already told all your friends, I don't know shit about how to make the stuff. Please just let me go.

I: I'm actually here to ask some different questions.

S: Well, I'm tired of answering questions. Subject lays his head on the table and sighs loudly.

I: The sooner you cooperate, the sooner you can get out of here.

S: Do you know how many times I've heard that line? Do you know where it got me?

I: Where did it get you?

S: Prison. I cooperated and got sent to fucking prison.

I: Did that also have anything to do with selling dangerous substances?

S: What the hell are you talking about?

I: When you went to prison previously, was it for reasons similar to what you've been brought here for this month?

S: No. Subject nods his head left to right, rubbing his forehead against the table for twenty seconds. Arson.

I: Well, then did—?

S: I got framed, man. I didn't even do it, but they said I did.

I: Who are 'they'? Who do you think framed you?

S: I don't know, man. Just someone. All I know is I didn't do it.

I: Well, then if we could get back on topic, I'd like to ask you about the anomalous liquid you were selling.

S: Anomalous liquid? You mean fucking mouthwash?

I: If that's what you call it, then sure.

S: That's what everyone calls it! Not just me. I don't see what the big deal is.

I: It has certain… unusual characteristics. That's what the 'big deal' is.

S: So what? It's just a really good mouthwash. Yea, I'll admit, it's kind of scary good. Curing a bunch of shit and all that. Clearing up sores. Blisters. But what's the big deal? I have a really good mouthwash, and somehow that makes me a felon?

I: So, you are aware of the liquid's anomalous properties?

S: Yes… yes. But why am I locked up for selling a really good mouthwash?

I: Do you know of any other properties the liquid has?

S: It heals mouth shit. What else is there? I already said I didn't make the shit. I get it from [REDACTED], and I sell it. That's it. That's all. Go ask them about how to fucking make it, because I don't know the first thing about making mouthwash.
