Item #: SCP-XXXX
Item Class: Safe Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: Due to its immense distance away from Foundation resources no containment procedures have been devised to date. Command Center Aurora 3 is to utilize observatory Janssen 2 in order to monitor for any changes in luminosity and in color from SCP-XXXX. Probe D-42501 (Designated as "Heimdall-3") is to observe for any variations or changes in the contents of SCP-XXXX.
A misinformation campaign has been placed into effect in order to label SCP-XXXX as a interstellar comet while also directing governmental space agencies to realign their observatories away from SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a quasar, an incredibly powerful burst of electromagnetic radiation usually originating supermassive blackholes. SCP-XXXX in particular has its origins stemming from an unknown location in Andromeda Galaxy.
SCP-XXXX has three characteristics that were currently not understood by the Foundation:
- SCP-XXXX has a point of origin extremely close relative to other quasars: while conventional astronomy has approximated that all quasars are 400 million to 20 billion lightyears away from Earth, SCP-XXXX is a mere 2.537 million years away. Furthermore, it’s approximate location relative to Earth is incredibly close, an estimated mere 50 million miles away from Earth.
- What also makes SCP-XXXX different from its conventional counterparts was how it varied and how it deviated in luminosity. Between the years of observation from February 23rd 1995 to █████████ ███, SCP-XXXX changed in luminosity from being barely detectable by Foundation observatories to being observable by commercial telescopes.
- Lastly, SCP-XXXX's composition is exclusively of radio waves with a repeating pattern and frequency. How the point of origin of SCP-XXXX has managed to compose such a repetition is unknown. This message is currently being deciphered by Probe D-42501 in order to provide further insight and analysis pertaining to the contents of SCP-XXXX.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first discovered in March 21st, 1993, when a private extraterrestrial search system known as SETI League utilizing the Arecibo Observatory first detected an electromagnetic signal within the solar system. The intensity of such a signal prompted the Foundation to Amnesticze the astronomers involved while also to mark the location of SCP-XXXX as a previously noted comet. The Foundation on August 13th, 1993 proceeded to launch Heimdall-3 in order to provide further analysis and investigation on SCP-XXXX.
