Excerpt:
"I've been told that writing down my thoughts, putting them down onto a physical space and getting them out from my mind, it'd do me well. I do not personally subscribe to this theory, but I will test it. The doctor, he put me onto this medication. It makes me feel strange, interferes with my thinking. Everything feels cloudy. The symbols, the symbols appear to me less often, at least.
I do not remember when the symbols came, but they have been with me. It was dark, humid, I had stumbled onto something I shouldn't have. I don't recall any details, but the doctor tells me that they are delusions. I sincerely hope that is the case. Because, if not, then they know."
Effect: Subjects appear to see black symbols appear onto nearby walls, floors, and other flat surfaces. When asked to reproduce them, each subject produces a different symbol, and many describe them as constantly shifting. When tested, their blood contains a significant amount of [antipsychotic drug], consistent with long-term use.
Excerpt: "The bandages on my arms itch so badly. I had explained to the doctor that there were words written on my skin, but I don't think he understood. There were words being written on his hands as well. I wouldn't let him touch me, the words spread.
Whenever I tell the doctor, my doctor, not the hospital doctor, Doctor, he doesn't understand. I keep telling him but he simply cannot understand what im telling him when I repeat those words. Perhaps only I can decipher them."
Effect: The subjects will appear suddenly distressed, and scratch at their forearms, hands, and biceps, to the point of tearing at the skin. Subjects will be unable to form coherent sentences, afflicted with schizophasia, or word salad.
Excerpt: "I saw him the other day. I know his name, but I cant write it. Whenever I do, [Indecipherable], it cannot be properly shown. His name, I saw it when I was in that place, that hot, humid cavern, fleshy walls pulsating. Hisses and slithering. Screaming.
The drugs make it hard to remember, hard to see the words. I need to see them, he'll be coming for me and the words let me know. His eyes curl their hands around the door frame as I write, I can feel the suit-wearing fuckers."
Effect: The indecipherable portion of the text appears to constantly shift. Images taken of the text only show a heavily crossed-out version, and subjects describing the text all give different responses and replications, all of which are random assortments of letters.
Subjects will begin to feel sudden bouts of paranoia and anxiety, describing shadowy figures watching them from around walls and doorways. Thermal imaging reveals these entities to be present, and non-hostile, appearing as humanoid masses made of smoke within tailored suits.
Excerpt: I'll go out the way I want to. Not taken, not stolen, nothing of me will be taken away. My pieces are still here and he can not take me away from myself. I'll take their pieces, replace the ones I've lost, the ones they made me lose.
The symbols make more sense now. Now that I've taken a piece from him. My ear, it was burned off, but I got a new one. I can hear the words better, they make sense, single words, short sentences. [The following few sentences are indecipherable, similar to the previous unknown text, with the exception of the phrase "STYGIAN FLESH" being repeated the only phrase comprehensible.]
Effect: The health of the subjects will decline suddenly, and drastically. Although conditions vary between subjects, they all result in the formation of necrotic tissue on small extremities, such as fingers, toes, the nose, ears, and lips. Subjects will be inclined to pick at, bite, or manually tear at the dead tissue to rid themselves of it. Subjects will then claw at the air (or each other, if multiple persons are present), until parts that are missing from the attacker's body are within their possession. The subjects will then replace their amputated extremities with the newly acquired ones, flesh growing to seamlessly connect the amputated parts to the body.
It is unknown where the parts come from when a subject is alone, but it is observed that they perceive another being within their vicinity when under the effect of this excerpt. Autopsies done on the corpses of affected subjects indicate signs of a detrimentally poor diet, and severe lack of Vitamin D.
Excerpt: [REDACTED]
Effect: Unlike other excerpts, the one above cannot be transcribed digitally without risk of carrying the anomalous effect.
Subjects exposed to the excerpt will become agitated at the sight of cameras or other surveillance equipment, and will attempt to manually reduce them to non-functionality. If the subject is within a meter of a computer, or other device with a digital screen, the screens will display several personal taunts towards the subject observing them, encouraging the subjects to dismantle the device in order to cease said harassment.
When a device is successfully dismantled, the effect will jump to any screen-device within ten meters. The effect of the excerpt will then spread to anyone observing the screen, even if they are not the original subject which observed SCP-XXXX, and replicate said surveillance avoidance and device dismantlement. Devices are only targeted when they also include cameras in their function, such as Laptop web-cameras, smartphones, tablets, and desktops with web-camera attachments.
Excerpt: I am losing days. Every time I blink, it's another sunrise. The fat and muscles on my bones are stripped from me, they're stolen. I don't know where they've gone, but I know one of them has it. The suits. They're outside my home now. Every time I blink, it's another sunset, and another suit is watching me from across the street.
Every time I blink, it's another phase of the moon. I just blinked now, and the clock was at 3AM, now it's 8PM. The calendar flipped, and it's another month. He wont let me stay awake, I was awake and able to read the signs, and now they're muddled again. He trapped me here, in this white room, bright lights, blink and I'm back in the bed. I don't blink anymore.
Effect: Subjects exposed to the excerpt will enter an intense and temporary state of stupor catatonia whenever they close their eyes. These periods of catatonia can last anywhere from a minimum of an hour, to a maximum of approximately two weeks. Subjects report not experiencing any passage of time, nor any feeling that would indicate a coma-like state.
Subjects under the catatonic state will begin to starve and dehydrate if they are not forcefully given water and sustenance. Blood testings indicate a significant presence of [anti-psychotic drug], consistent with short-term, high-dosage use.
Excerpt: I've seen him once again. The emissary, serpentine, spine-bending fang-mouth. Hundreds, dripping with that poison in my cerebral fluid. Every time I sleep, not blink, I'm taken back. Back to the dark, the flesh-walls, humidity enough to suffocate. The words aren't cloudy in my dreams, I'm awake in them.
They speak to me when he is not watching, taunting, and they give me a sermon a thousand times over. I am the one to save this world. I am his host, the nest for his eggs which will birth the world anew. When he sheds his skin the old one will be left behind, and the children will consume it. I am the front door, the guard, all in one. They'll all thank me, once I am done.
Effect: Subjects who read the excerpt will not experience any immediate effects, until sleeping. When at rest, subjects will experience extreme bouts of night terrors, sleep paralysis, and other nightmare-like states of lucidity. All point to the same general themes; Of being a "Host", of being a "nest", a serpentine-like entity, and in some cases, subjects will suffocate in their sleep. Autopsies report heavy amounts of moisture consisting of blood, sweat, and saliva within their lungs, but insufficient in amount to cause drowning.
Excerpt: I have left the facility which His Servants hold me. They couldn't stop me, I simply pushed them out of the way, and they moved. Ghosts at this point, as everyone would be without my intervention.
I am home now, in my basement, entering the cavern, where it began. I told the doctor how it began, but he wouldn't listen, nor would he ever. I touched something, saw something I shouldn't have, and now, I am poisoned, toxin runs inside me with his influence, and I can feel his eggs bursting out as I write.
Know that this book recalls my legacy, my nightmares and hopes, which will end soon enough. I do not write, it listens, and it will listen as I rot. I am here now, and the words are his. They're screaming, telling me to stop, telling me that this need not be done, but it does. I will save this world that rejected me. They will all know my sacrifice. I am martyring myself to save you all.
His Stygian scales will not be shed. His children will be aborted in my womb. Goodbye, remember me.
Effect: Subjects exposed to the excerpt will experience extreme head trauma, in which all parts of the cranium above the nasal cavity, as well as the entire back of the skull, will be removed from the body in a method similar to suicide via gunshot. Debris of the cranium will disappear instantaneously, with only cranial fluid and blood remaining.
Autopsies are unable to be performed, as corpses are soon "collected" by an unknown entity.
