Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be monitored by no less than 4 guards at any given time. Civilians are not permitted entry into SCP-XXXX, nor any Foundation personnel without at least Level 2 clearance.

SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained at the nearest available site when captured, unless within ███ kilometers of SCP-XXXX. While in containment, SCP-XXXX-1 is to be sealed in a high-security cell, and observed constantly. SCP-XXXX-1 must be subjected to daily psychological evaluations. If SCP-XXXX-1 becomes active, it is to be placed under heavy restraints until activity ceases.

In the event of a containment breach, SCP-XXXX-1 should not be approached with force. Instead, it is to be taken to SCP-XXXX and provided with the requested number of D-class personnel. If SCP-XXXX-1 is ever terminated, Procedure Sparrowhawk-51 is to be immediately enacted.

In the event that SCP-XXXX-1 is allowed solitary access to SCP-XXXX, a Mobile Task Force is to be immediately called to SCP-XXXX. Upon the return of SCP-XXXX-1, it is to be immediately captured and contained, via whatever means necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a natural cavern located ██ kilometers north of ██████, New Zealand. While SCP-XXXX-1 remains inactive, SCP-XXXX is a small cave reaching a depth of ██ meters. Its only defining feature in this state is a series of cave paintings. These paintings seemingly depict a group of humanoid figures gathered around a black sphere.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a non-anomalous male human, typically between the ages of ██ and ██ years, who displays no strong religious affiliation. During the period of time between March █ and May ██, SCP-XXXX-1 becomes "active," displaying overpowering urges to travel to SCP-XXXX and enter the cavern. Any attempt to stop this travel is met with excessive violence from SCP-XXXX-1, which displays incredible strength and speed while active. Only one instance of SCP-XXXX-1 exists at a time. If the current instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is terminated, a new instance will arise at random from the pool of viable candidates.

If confronted nonviolently while attempting to enter SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1 will repeatedly and urgently insist on entering the cavern, eventually resorting to force. If asked why it requires access to the cavern, SCP-XXXX-1 will insist that "it is time to begin anew." SCP-XXXX-1 will decline to provide further information, but will often request between █ and ███ "pilgrims" to accompany it. Said pilgrims can be humans of any age, race, or gender, though SCP-XXXX-1 will occasionally express preferences. No clear pattern in those accepted by SCP-XXXX-1 has been identified.

In the event that an active instance of SCP-XXXX-1 reaches SCP-XXXX, the cavern will become expansive. The actual size and arrangement of chambers in SCP-XXXX seems to differ each time an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 attempts to enter. Two defining features are always present: the presence of huge colonies of non-anomalous Arachnocampa luminosa1, and the existence of cave paintings in the deepest chamber of the cavern.

SCP-XXXX-1, upon reaching the cave paintings, will enter a meditative state and begin speaking in an as-of-yet unknown language. After ██ to ███ minutes in this state, two known outcomes can occur. If SCP-XXXX-1 has been accompanied by the requested number of humans, all of the "pilgrims" will be instantly killed. Posthumous examination indicates subjects died due to a spontaneous lack of a brainstem. SCP-XXXX-1 will then become "inactive" upon exiting SCP-XXXX, displaying no memory of the event.

If the wrong number of "pilgrims" are provided, or none at all, SCP-XXXX-1 will instead undergo a physical transformation. The exact specifics of these transformations vary, though all grant SCP-XXXX-1 anomalous and highly dangerous abilities. Notable across all recorded transformations is the presence of glowing patterns appearing on SCP-XXXX-1's skin, similar in color and luminosity to the Arachnocampa luminosa found within SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX first came to the attention of the Foundation following reports of animal attacks in the town of ██████. The initial instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was captured and designated SCP-████. When similar reports reappeared the following year, further investigations were conducted, resulting in the discovery of SCP-XXXX.
