SCP-XXXX-1

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: All weather surrounding SCP-XXXX is to be monitored for winds exceeding 40 kmph. In the event that any strong winds are forecast near SCP-XXXX’s containment area, SCP-XXXX is to be thoroughly sprayed with water via remote drone to ensure that any pollen from SCP-XXXX-1 is not carried away.

All personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are required to wear at least a class 2 class-4 respirator while within SCP-XXXX while outside Site 143, and are to be given a psychiatric evaluation and a cognition-reality test once a month. Any research teams sent into SCP-XXXX are to be outfitted with retrieval harnesses in the event of SCP-XXXX-1’s side effects taking effect. All research staff exposed to SCP-XXXX-1 are to follow Level 2 Decontamination protocols and any equipment, including clothing (see Incident XXXX-01), is to be disposed of accordingly.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a forest located on an island roughly 5km off the coast of ████ in the Mediterranean Sea. SCP-XXXX is largely made up of small purple flowers visibly similar to Hyacinthoides non-scripta (Common Blue Bell flower) referred to as SCP-XXXX-1.

Whenever a person steps foot within SCP-XXXX they begin to lose their sense on reality. Side effects include: hallucinations, fatigue, drowsiness, aggression, and paranoia. Prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX-1's pollen will result in the individual falling into a comatose state. Individuals exposed to SCP-XXXX-1’s effects can be revived back to full consciousness after approximately 8 hours from being removed from SCP-XXXX. Any individuals that are not removed from SCP-XXXX will eventually die from lack of water or food. Any dead organic material is decomposed at an accelerated rate leaving any non-organic material behind. Modified organic material such as paper, wood, and leather are not affected by SCP-XXXX’s enhanced decomposition effect (see Item Recovery List XXXX.) The nature of these effects are, as of yet, unknown.

Item Recovery List XXXX:
Wreckage of a WW2-Era USAF P-51 Mustang
The personal items belonging to USAF Capt. A. Wilkins. (see Entry XXXX-01)
Several dozen sets of Roman Legion armor.
A written account of the Roman Legion Legio IX Macedonica. (see Entry XXXX-02)
A Nikon digital camera containing several pictures of an unknown woman. (see Entry XXXX-03)

Expedition Log XXXX-01
(Subject is an unmanned drone designated UD-81820.)

UD-81820 is sent into SCP-XXXX and arrives after an hour on the other side without incident.

Expedition Log XXXX-02
(Subject is D-3249, Male, 42 years of age. D-3249 is outfitted with a two-way radio and a backpack containing 3 energy ration bars, 3 bottles of water, and a standard survival knife.)

D-3249 is instructed to enter SCP-XXXX and document his experience. Subject begins walking into SCP-XXXX and notes of a calming feeling. After 15 minutes inside SCP-XXXX, D-3249 begins to show signs of increased drowsiness before becoming unresponsive. Mission is terminated and subject is presumed lost.

Expedition Log XXXX-03
(Subject is D-9455, Male, 31 years of age. D-9455 is outfitted with a retrieval harness, shoulder-mounted camera, a backpack containing 3 ration bars, 4 bottles of water, and a standard survival knife.)

D-9455 is instructed to enter SCP-XXXX and document his experience. Feed from camera shows subject walking through SCP-XXXX for approximately 15 minutes before falling collapsing. Subject is unresponsive and mission is terminated. D-9455 is recalled via the retrieval harness and sent to medical wing for recovery. Subject awakes 8 hours later in a severely confused and agitated state, wondering how he had ended up back at Site 143. Subject explains that he was just been walking in SCP-XXXX moments before awaking. D-9455 is moved to an interview room and is asked to report on his observations (see Interview Log XXXX-01)

Interview Log XXXX-01:

Interviewer: Dr. DeVeras

Interviewed: D-9455

<Begin Log>

Dr. DeVeras: “Can you recall what you experienced while within the forest?”

D-9455: “Yeah…”

D-9455 takes a sip from the glass of water.

D-9455: "Well after I entered the forest, there wasn't much more to describe except trees and those flowers you guys mentioned. Nothing happened for I'd say about 6 hours before I-"

Dr. DeVeras: "Did you say 6 hours?"

D-9455: "About. I don't know for sure."

Dr. DeVeras: "And how far did you travel?"

D-9455: "Maybe dozen kilometres before I started feeling that sensation I told you guys about."

Dr. DeVeras: "Right.. And could you go into detail on this… sensation?"

D-9455: "At first I felt sick, like when you're in a car for too long, an then I started feeling something occasionally jab me in my back or on my legs, plus the mild burning on my side."

Dr. DeVeras: "And when did this stop?"

D-9455: "Sometime before I dozed off, didn't feel it for the next couple of days in that forest and then that's when I ended up in the medical wing. You guys never did explain how I got-."

Dr. DeVeras: "That'll be all D-9455. Thank you again for your time."

<End Log>

Closing Statement: It seems that the sensation D-9455 experienced, including the mild burns they had received, is attributed to being dragged across the ground while being recalled via the retrieval harness.

Incident Report XXXX-1: On █/█/███, on-site staff were alerted to multiple unauthorized entry attempts in Site 143's access corridor, where security personnel discovered Researcher █████ attempting to open the entryway leading into SCP-XXXX. Researcher █████ was detained without struggle and held in isolation for several hours. When questioned about the incident, Researcher ██████ was unable to recall any memory of what had happened and explained he "was going to get coffee from the break room." Researcher █████ was temporarily reassigned to Site ███ for ██ months before returning to Site 143. Chemical analysis of Researcher █████'s clothing revealed trace amounts of SCP-XXXX-1's pollen.

Addendum XXXX-02:
The following is an excerpt from a letter to ████ from Site 143 director Dr. DeVeras requesting SCP-XXXX’s reclassification to Keter:

“Two days ago we had an abundance of strong winds come over Site 143. Normally we wouldn’t pay it much attention given our filtration devices but we’ve just received word from the agents posted over in ██████ and they’ve reported that the town was beginning to show signs of SCP-XXXX’s side effects. Nearly half of the town’s population were found wandering aimlessly around. Apparently the pollen from SCP-XXXX’s flowers is able to be carried by strong winds and is now affecting nearby towns. All affected towns are currently under observation for any new instances of SCP-XXXX-1. It is with this revelation that I am formally requesting that SCP-XXXX be reclassified as Keter.”

Interview Log XXXX-02:

Interviewer: Dr. █████

Interviewed: Site Researcher Foster

Foreword: Foster is discussing SCP-XXXX's new containment procedures during a routine psychiatric evaluation.

<Begin Log>

Foster: "I don't know… I mean they ARE working. Since they've been added, we haven't seen another incident happen over in █████ but…"

Dr. ████: "But what?"

Foster: "Well I can't help but feeling that we're just… strengthening it."

Dr. ████: "What do you mean?"

Foster: "I mean we are watering it after all."

Dr. ████: "Can you elaborate?"

Foster: "Do you really think that the incident was just a coincidence? SCP-XXXX is more devious than we give it credit. It doesn't want you and I, the Foundation, poking around in there and it'll do whatever it takes to get us away from it. That forest is clever… and subtle."
