Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Access to Armed Provisional Site 71 is restricted to Level 4 security clearance requiring prior authorization of 2 members of O5 Command. Armed Provisional Site 71 has been constructed around subbasement [███████] due to SCP-XXXX’s stationary nature and proximity to a metropolitan population center. SCP-XXXX is housed in a subbasement on the [██████████] University campus of [██████████, ████].

All references to the subbasement have been scrubbed from University infrastructure blueprints and non-primary points of access have been sealed with steel reinforced concrete. No less than 10 armed guards are to be stationed outside Access Point Alpha, with 2 stationary XM1105 light weight .50 Caliber machine guns to be manned in 4 hour, rotating shifts. Due to space constraints, a tactical response team is to be stationed within a 10 minute response radius of Armed Provisional Site 71 to be activated in the event of attempted containment breach by outside forces.

Personnel of any class or clearance attempting unauthorized access will be detained, questioned, and terminated on-site.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1950’s era IBM super computer comprised of: an IBM 1100 control unit, an IBM 1205 console unit, an IBM 803 read-punch-verifier unit, an IBM 733 accounting machine, an IBM 1307 power unit, an IBM 950 auxiliary unit, and 4 IBM 1100 magnetic tape units. The computer itself runs on a variation of SOAP (Symbolic Optimal Assembly Program) and seems to operate independently of any outside communication or power lines - all electricity to the power unit being derived via unknown means. On a small table, adjacent to the control and RPV units, is a box labeled “Punch Cards” which contains 293 unused 80-column cards, at the time of this report. Along the Southern wall, 4 rows of shelving units house an estimated 1.34 million cards, sorted alphabetically and grouped into a large variety of subjects. A small stainless steel plaque is affixed to the top of the control unit bearing the inscription, “Deus est Machina.”

The Foundation first became aware of SCP-XXXX following an extended power outage during a winter storm beginning on [██/██/████] during which a cryogenics laboratory lost several dozen cadavers. Reports of a generator running in the subbasement and emergency lighting in the lower recesses of the stairwell (currently designated Access Point Alpha), despite the lack of power in the building, lead to an official complaint of mismanagement of resources. On-site personnel intervened when it became clear that the laboratory in question was not equipped with a backup generator.
