Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX with the exception of instances approved for testing, must be completely destroyed. Individuals who have been exposed to SCP-XXXX for long periods of time or are clearly under it's effects must either be administered Class D Amnestics, terminated, or quarantined depending on the severity of the case.
Upon recovery of an instance of SCP-XXXX, it must be transported to the nearest secure facility for neutralization. Transportation of the instance requires personnel be divided into a convoy of at least 5 vehicles, with the vehicle containing SCP-XXXX placed in between the other vehicles, which must maintain as large a distance as possible from, while retaining a line of sight with the primary vehicle. For extended distances, SCP-XXXX should alternate vehicles to minimize exposure.
Destruction of SCP-XXXX is to be completed in a flat area with nothing obstructing view for a minimum of 100m. SCP-XXXX should be placed in the center of this area, and will be destroyed in whatever method best corresponds to the material of this instance. In most cases, thermal explosives are sufficient for proper neutralization, but in more extreme cases ████████'s have been used with approval of O5-██. During this process, a second neutralization team must standby at the perimeter of the area to observe that proper destruction took place and intervene in the event the initial team fails in their responsibilities.
All personnel involved in the recovery and transport of the object must then be quarantined for a duration of time corresponding to the amount of time they spent within 200m of SCP-XXXX. This quarantine will also be extended depending on how close to the instance they were. Quarantine times vary from several hours for only a few minutes of exposure, to weeks when exposed for several days. These personnel are also not permitted to take part in neutralization efforts. Depending on the exposure time, individuals can be administered an appropriate Amnestic when quarantine ends.
Any instances of SCP-XXXX approved for testing, are to be kept in the E-Block of Site 45. The location designated for SCP-XXXX containment is to be isolated in all directions at a minimum of 200m. Any areas not greater than 200m away from SCP-XXXX must require Level-4 access or greater. Personnel involved in the security of, or testing of SCP-XXXX must limit exposure to less than a day at a time, with a quarantine period immediately thereafter. At the center of this designated containment area, all instances of SCP-XXXX used for testing are to be placed in a 10x10m room with 1m thick walls of reinforced material, with the only access point being a shielded blast door on one wall.
Description: Instances of SCP-XXXX are objects bearing an unusual molecular structure designated SCP-XXXX-A. The organization and makeup of the object on an atomic level is unnatural and follows complex patterns yet deciphered. These abnormal structures appear in many numerous ways, in the unique bonds formed between individual molecules, which molecules are bonded and which aren't, incredibly varied numbers of isotopes within the object and the pattern in which they are distributed throughout, and numerous other anomalies. While it's clear that patterns exist in each object, no link has been found so far as to what the cause or function of these are.
The objects that contain these structural abnormalities are varied in almost very other way. SCP-XXXX-A has been found in objects constructed of materials ranging from wood to steel to unknown materials. Carbon-dating and other indicators of these materials' age has also revealed a wide range from instances constructed within the past decade to prehistoric instances. The smallest object found had a diameter of 3cm while the largest object found was roughly 2x3x3m. Locations where objects have been found appears to be evenly distributed across the world, and no correlation between the locations has been found thus far. The shape of these objects, while varied, contains some similarities in that they all bear certain irregular design elements. Engravings of specific patterns, a lack of curves, and an intricate level of detail with very few surfaces not containing ridges or outcroppings of any kind.
Those present within roughly 200m of SCP-XXXX experience a gradual change of their neurological state through unknown means. This change manifests itself in several different ways, but always presents itself as though the change and mental effects of it came from the mind of the affected individual rather than from SCP-XXXX itself. CT Scans of affected individuals' brains have revealed that their brain chemistry and organization of their neurons is increasingly altered during exposure. The effects of these changes are varied, though the individual rarely experiences significant changes in personality or core beliefs without significant exposure. Observed effects include but are not limited to:
- A strong attachment to the affecting SCP-XXXX instance, including a desire to take it or protect it
- A desire to bring others within the exposure radius, for varying reasons
- A compulsion to make some sort of change, the nature of which varies.
- Minor life changes (i.e. reaching out to an old friend, change of diet)
- Political action (i.e. changing who you vote for, joining a campaign, pursuing office)
- Change friends (i.e. conflict with current friends, seek out new friends)
- Major life changes, usually only if exposed for a long time (i.e. changing careers, moving cities, marriage or divorce)
- Violent action, usually against or in protection of a certain individual.
- A new found belief in ideas of determinism, destiny, or religion (only after prolonged exposure)
