Abstract:
Using 'anomalous' reality-bending glass shaped into windows the installation is designed to create an inexplicable feeling of anxiety, confusion, and powerlessness in the participating patrons. In the middle of my booth would stand a white block of polished marble, and on the block would be a 2004 Bentley Continental, fitted with tire clamps to prevent it from rolling off the marble pillar. The following modifications have been made to the Bentley:
- Windows and windscreen molded from reality bending glass replacing all glass panels, including windows and front windscreen.
- The driver's headrest modified to hold a simple metal biofeedback headband.
- A wireless speaker replacing the dashboard speakers.
While the car itself is frequently regarded as a work of art, the installation only begins when a consenting patron (who has waived his/her rights of sue) steps into the driver's seat and slides his/her head into the biofeedback monitor. From this point on, the doors of the car lock and the 15-minute performance starts. The performance consists of sounds delivered through the wireless speaker and images and landscapes displayed on the glass. These images and sounds, while following a timed procedure, are liable to changed based on readings of the patron's agitation provided by the biofeedback headset.
