"Hephaestion was the man Alexander loved, and for the rest of their lives their relationship remained as intimate as it is now irrecoverable: Alexander was only defeated once, the Cynic philosophers said long after his death, and that was by Hephaestion's thighs."

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX is a species of sapient humanoids resembling Sarpa salpa1 that inhabit a isolated island located 2.5 km southeast of the Greek mainland. Numerous physical deviations separate SCP-XXXX from Sarpa salpa, however, including opposable thumbs, separated and multi-jointed digits, multi-jointed arms and legs, and differing facial features resembling those of Homo Sapiens.

All instances of SCP-XXXX identify themselves as conscripts under the Greek emperor Alexander the Great, and, in addition, possess modified armor and weaponry similar to those of ancient Macedonians that occupied modern-day Greece during the late 4th century. SCP-XXXX instances are collectively unaware of the modern world's existence and subscribe to the culture and language of Ancient Greece.

Initial Discovery Log:

On April 1st, 2019, Foundation Deep-Sea Tectonic Reconnaissance Probe TANTAN recorded a sudden shift in local geologic activity that surpassed the anomalous threshold, placing all nearby faculties under lock-down and triggering numerous defensive protocols. Upon review, it was discovered that a large land mass, later identified to be the island that hosts SCP-XXXX, had shifted from its position on the Aegean sea floor and was now above sea-level. The Foundation immediately deployed several reconnaissance drones to the area to document the event.

The subsequent log details the initial discovery of SCP-XXXX. It has been translated from Ancient Greek.

SCP-XXXX INITIAL DISCOVERY LOG

Drone List: PYTHAGORAS, HIPPARCHUS, ARCHIMEDES, and ERATOSTHENES.

Subject: SCP-XXXX

[BEGIN LOG]

The feed begins from Pythagoras' perspective as it is deployed from the submarine FSS Atlantis. Upon approach to the island, numerous instances of SCP-XXXX are observed to be moving frantically and brandishing weapons upon each other. The feed shifts to Hipparchus' camera as it reaches the coast. Two instances of SCP-XXXX are observed to be conversing behind a rock formation.

SCP-XXXX-A: The captains are all abominations, too. They whisper about Poseidon's wrath. Is it true what they say? Have the Gods abandoned Greece?

SCP-XXXX-B: Do not repeat such hearsay, boy, lest Zeus strike you where you stand.

The instance looks upwards.

SCP-XXXX-B: The sky shines bright once more. A hero has died today.

SCP-XXXX-A: What are we to do?

SCP-XXXX-B: We will do what we always have done; Protect Greece. Assemble the other captains. We must find Alexander at once.

SCP-XXXX-A: Yes, father.

SCP-XXXX-A separates and disappears. SCP-XXXX-B looks upwards once more. The feed shifts to Archimedes' camera upon its discovery of two conflicting entities near the shore.

SCP-XXXX-C: You weaver of lies! You are the one who bears the head of the fish! Behold!

SCP-XXXX-C raises a shield towards the other instance, who recoils in response.

SCP-XXXX-D: What trickery you create! Your shield must be cursed by its maker!

SCP-XXXX-C: The flames of the Great Forge at Athens burns brighter upon your blasphemy! You are an abomination, a vile, sick creature!

SCP-XXXX-D: Let the mirror reflect upon its holder! Your flesh is no different from the horrors that grow underneath our ships!

SCP-XXXX-C: Asdocles has captured prey more worthy in the market than what stands before me!

SCP-XXXX-D: Asdocles could not catch a rock with his aptitude! You are most guilty of this crime, master of the transfiguration arts!

SCP-XXXX-C: I am a scholar of the Goddess Demeter, you blundering fool! A Grand Mage could not even imagine the abomination that I currently witness!

SCP-XXXX-D proceeds to physically assault SCP-XXXX-C. The feed shifts once more to Eratosthenes' camera as it observes two instances on a cliff.

SCP-XXXX-E: Over nineteen thousand moons have passed, Xuthos.

SCP-XXXX-F: I am aware.

SCP-XXXX-E: The heart of Greece has not beat for that long. What do you think stands there now?

SCP-XXXX-F: Greece will always stand, Meidias. She nurtured us then, she will guide us to victory tomorrow.

SCP-XXXX-E: Time changes things, Xuthos. The great void is restless. I fear the abyss is opening once more.

SCP-XXXX-F: I still feel its vile soul. Is he-

SCP-XXXX-E: Yes. It appears he was able to sacrifice himself.

SCP-XXXX-F: And Alexander?

SCP-XXXX-E: His energy is older. I fear he has not slept.

SCP-XXXX-F: Perhaps it is true, then. The Gods may have actually abandoned us.

SCP-XXXX-E: If that were true, they would not have intervened. They betrayed Fate to protect us, Xuthos.

SCP-XXXX-F: Fate is a fickle thing. Are we not to combat those that wish to destroy us?

SCP-XXXX-E: Do not become self-consumed, Xuthos. We have betrayed the natural order, and it will soon betray us once more. Great evils are stirring.

SCP-XXXX-F: Without the Gods, we are sure to fall.

SCP-XXXX-E: I will request a council with the other mages. We do not have much time.

Both instances exit. The feed shifts back to Pythagoras' camera as it approaches a singular instance of SCP-XXXX. This particular instance is noticeably detached from the other instances and is adorned in a full-length robe and hood. A Xiphos sword etched with numerous luminous runes is lodged within a rock in front of the instance, and, upon noticing it, the instance falls to the ground.

SCP-XXXX-G: The Black Sun is returning. We will not survive this onslaught again.

The instance places its hand on the handle of the Xiphos as the runes increase their luminosity.

SCP-XXXX-G: Our hearts still beat as one, my love. I swear on the Styx that it will not stop until your sacrifice has been avenged.

After a few moments, the instance rises and begins to walk away before turning back towards the Xiphos.

SCP-XXXX-G: Until we see each other again, Hephaestion.
