Perdoh's Rolling Dunes

Item #: SCP-5672

Object Class: Keter (Formerly Thaumiel)

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5672 is to remain inside SCP-5672-1.

SCP-5672-1 is to be contained in a standard humanoid containment cell. SCP-5672-1 is to be amnesticized to remove any information regarding the existence and nature of SCP-5672, and of prior involvement with the Foundation. Amnestics are to be re-applied should it rediscover SCP-5672.

SCP-5672-1 is to be isolated from human contact and monitored remotely for 72 hours following any reports of abdominal pain or discomfort. Personnel potentially exposed to SCP-5672's effects are to be placed in quarantine and given a full medical examination.

Description: SCP-5672 is a roughly spherical 5cm diameter object composed of various types of live animal tissue. SCP-5672 does not require any external nourishment, as it recycles the majority of it's metabolic waste, thus being capable of sustaining itself indefinitely. Despite this, SCP-5672 will metabolize any organic matter it makes sustained direct physical contact with, converting it into Y-7211. SCP-5672 has been observed to enter a 'spreading' state at irregular intervals. This state is visually identifiable by an increase in diameter by approximately 2cm. When spreading SCP-5672 is capable of converting material at a distance, without contact. The maximum distance SCP-5672's effect can extend to while spreading has yet to be determined. Analysis has shown a general tendency towards the nearest unconverted organic material, however conversion has been observed up to 600 meters from the anomaly, despite closer available material. The time, frequency and duration of spreading states appears to be inversely related to SCP-5672's proximity and length of exposure to unconverted organic material.

SCP-5672-1, formerly PoI-7402 or A████ P. S██████, is a 36 year old male, member of GoI-6271 "The Cold Storage"2. SCP-5672-1 has displayed immunity to SCP-5672's effects, being exposed to it for extended periods of time prior to containment, and exhibiting no conversion to Y-721. The cause for this is unknown, but presumed to be a form of passive protective carnomancy3 unique to SCP-5672-1.

Containment History: SCP-5672 was captured along with 46 other items in a raid of a GoI-6271 warehouse on 12/02/2018. The offensive began at 03:11 and lasted approximately 10 hours, after which the territory was deemed secured, and transfer of seized items and 6 captured individuals began. Around 22 hours after the start of the raid, personnel found SCP-5672 in SCP-5672-1's possesion. SCP-5672-1 was encountered injured4 and unconscious in a previously occluded room in the warehouse. SCP-5672 was brought into containment, and received Thaumiel classification for it's use in the production of Y-721. SCP-5672-1 was subject to interrogation, confirming SCP-5672's prior use for GoI-6271's Y-721 sales, SCP-5672's conversion propriety, as well as SCP-5672-1's own resistance to the conversion. However, SCP-5672-1 did not mention SCP-5672's 'spreading' behaviour, which remained unknown to the Foundation until Event 5672-A. SCP-5672-1 was later put into holding, as with the other captured memebers of GoI-6271. Following Event 5672-A, SCP-5672 was reclassified as Keter, stored provisionally in a hermetically sealed locker and tested upon to ascertain the extent of it's 'spreading'. The object was contained in this manner only temporarily, while the current containment procedures were elaborated in a Emergency Containment Deliberation Meeting.

Event 5672-A: Prior to event 5672-A, was being used in Dr. Silva's research for the R&D Division of the Pharmaceutical Department. Containment procedures were limited to minimizing physical contact with SCP-5672-1. At 17:32 on 10/04/2018, SCP-5672 entered a 'spreading' state, converting tissue from 53 different members of staff, resulting in 42 injured and 11 dead, before returning to it's base state. Captured memebers of GoI-6271, including SCP-5672-1, were brought into interrogation, with all denying awareness of SCP-5672's 'spreading' effect, stating not having witnessed it prior to containment. One member cited SCP-5672 as "A████'s ball", refering to SCP-5672-1 as it's creator and a likely orchestrator of Event 5672-A. SCP-5672-1 denied this claim, however the veracity of either statement is questionable.
