Item #: SCP-0
Object Class: [REDACTED]
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-0 is to be kept in a specialised cradle of unknown design within an standard containment cell at Site-[REDACTED]. SCP-0 is not to be moved or transported, and no staff or personnel are to be informed of its nature without clearance from the 05 council. A false record and experiment log is to be fabricated to prevent suspicion or unwanted attention from being drawn to SCP-0. Additionally, two D-Class personnel and a security officer are to be disguised as researchers and sent to SCP-0's cell under the pretence of performing experiments unrelated to SCP-0. Any member of staff inquiring as to the nature of these experiments is to be amnesticised at earliest opportunity. In the case of information breach, Site-██'s Administrator is approved to utilise memetic agents to counteract the spread of information on SCP-0 throughout the on-site staff.
Site-██ is to ensure that no on-site staff other than those that are aware of SCP-0's actual nature are to enter the cell. Dr. Boyarov has recommended SCP-0 be destroyed at the soonest possible opportunity (denied by 05 Council). Dr. Faust has appealed Dr. Boyarov's previous recommendation and is no leading experimentation on SCP-0. Dr. Faust has requested that all relevant data and experiment logs are to be erased and SCP-0 is to be destroyed at soonest possible opportunity (Denied by 05 Council).
Description: SCP-0 appears to be a localised distortion in reality, 0.25m in radius and perfectly smooth. It was discovered residing in its current cradle in an abandoned laboratory in ███████, █████, USA when the Foundation was sent an anonymous tip from unknown persons (see Addendum 0A for the recovery log). The distortion itself is only obvious due to the disturbance of light passing through it, giving the appearance of a fish-eye lens.
Initial testing revealed the somewhat-benign anomalous properties of SCP-0 contravene the current understanding of gravitational, relativistic, optical and quantum physics, as described in Addendum 0B. However, further testing of SCP-0 with D-Class personnel resulted in the discovery of its far more extreme qualities, which allowed even completely normal personnel to influence reality, the results of which are described in Addendum 0C.
From these investigations, it has been concluded that SCP-0 is in fact the first instance of an object having a Hume level of 0, with no detectable variation, even when attempting to forcefully raise the Hume level. Physically, the distortion itself is the influence of a singularity at its centre, which several researchers have speculated to be various paradoxical phenomena. The currently prevailing theory is that the phenomenon is an entirely static yet unknown particle with a wavefunction localised to a single point, which research staff have taken to calling the "perfect circle" theory.
Addendum 0A: Recovery Log
Foreword: This is a summary of the reports of the team who recovered SCP-0, who were found on ██/██/20█, two months after they left on their mission.
SCP-0 was recovered from an abandoned laboratory in the area of ███████, █████, USA, on ██/██/20██. It was brought to the attention of administrative staff at Site-██'s after an agent found a hand written note in their locker from a Dr. Ian Burnes, clutched in a severed hand, which was later confirmed to belong to Dr. Burnes. The note was covered in blood and written hastily, giving the address of the laboratory and to send help, signed by the Dr. in question. This agent was then assigned to an investigative team alongside two other agents, and undertook a recon mission at the location.
They were given appropriate cover stories and permitted the use of an unmanned drone from Site-██ in order to perform a sweep of the area. They were kept in radio contact with Site-██ throughout. The address pointed to a residential house out in the countryside, with sparse tree cover and vegetation, mostly composed of arable land and crops. The mission found no obvious anomalous behaviour or warning signs, and was concluded summarily
The team then returned to site and prepared for a manned survey mission, however due to other activities they were delayed by several weeks. The mission was rescheduled and conducted on ██/██/20██, with the same three field agents posing as land developers/surveyors. The agents were permitted the use of the drone again to ensure approach was safe and after confirming this, the trio proceeded to the property. The house in question appeared to be in disrepair, but with some signs of recent habitation.
When field agents failed to make contact with any residents after knocking and calling out, one of the agents attempted to pick the lock on the front door, and discovered that wasn't locked. The agents reported that their sweep of the interior found it in worse condition than the outside. Much of the floor was water-damaged and many rooms suffered from damp. There were more signs of habitation, such as leftover food, but much of it appeared rotten, and the house was considered abandoned.
After exhausting their search of most of the house, one of the agents eventually discovered a door to the basement, and called for the others to help search it. The lead agent made their way down the stairwell first, and encountered the a spatial anomaly that caused him to lose his orientation. One of the other agents had followed closely behind them, and also fell into the anomaly. The remaining agent had panicked at this point, before radioing Site-██ and calling for reinforcements. Recalling the state of Dr. Burnes' hand when it was found, the last agent then attempted to rescue their teammates, but did not succeed.
Site-██ responded to the distress call with a standard MTF response team. However, after a survey of the anomaly, the MTF commander contacted the Site again to request Scranton Reality Anchors and several technicians to attempt to fix the anomaly. After arriving, the technicians noted that the spatial anomaly was stranger than usual, and that the SRAs would require some adjustment to return reality to normal.
After lowering the Hume differential of the SRAs and orienting them at various angles, the technicians managed to correct the reality of the basement some two months after the field agents had fallen into it. They found their bodies, alongside the decomposed body and mangled body of Dr. Burnes, in different locations around the basement. At the centre of the basement was a cradle of unknown design, holding SCP-0. The cradle was tested for anomalous properties, and after technicians found it's Hume level to be 0, they called for an anomalous object transport and brought it to back to Site-██.
Addendum 0B: Initial Experimentation
Experiment 0B-1: Radioactivity Testing
Description: SCP-0 was placed in a standard experimentation cell along with several Geiger counters placed at various points surrounding SCP-0. Test was conducted for several hours, and repeated between other testing.
Results: Geiger counter readings indistinguishable from background.
Experiment 0B-2: UV/IR Testing
Description: SCP-0 was placed in a standard experimentation cell along with several photodetectors capable of detecting UV or IR light.
Results: No UV or IR light was detected emanating from SCP-0.
Experiment 0B-3: Weight
Description: Cradle was determined to be made of various common materials, but mostly steel, with some plastic. Approximate weight was calculated, then cradle and SCP-0 were weighed.
Results: SCP-0 is approximately weightless. When SCP-0 was deemed safe to handle, the weight of the cradle was determined without SCP-0, and then weighed with it, result confirms it is approximately weightless.
Experiment 0B-4: Lensing Test
Description: Several different lasers of varying colors were directed into SCP-0.
Result: No discernible change to light.
Experiment 0B-5: Isotope Test
Description: Exposure of SCP-0 to Alpha particles.
Result: Trajectories and distribution of alpha particles appeared to have been changed by SCP-0. When detected after passing through the SCP, the particles scattered as though they had not travelled the diameter of the distortion. This anomaly is later confirmed when attempting Hume level measurements.
Experiment 0B-6: Hume Level Measurement
Description: Standard Hume level measurements
Results: Hume levels are apparently zero along the surface of SCP-0, however, it still exists and has not broken down. Attempting to measure inside the distortion's boundary, into it's "body", is impossible, as the Hume probe passes through the surface and appears on the other side. Probe still reads zero in this manner however, despite simultaneous measurements with another Hume probe not passing through the SCP giving normal Hume levels.
Addendum 0C: Live Subject Testing
Experiment 0C-1: Live Subject Handling
Participants: D-1919
Description: D-1919 instructed to approach SCP-0, place both hands firmly on either side of it's apparent body and remove it from it's cradle. D-1919 was then instructed to walk around the cradle clockwise, and back counter clockwise. Once done, D-1919 was instructed to replace SCP-0 in its cradle and to leave the cell. D-1919 monitored for 24 hours after completion.
Result: D-1919 completed instructions and was able to handle and move SCP-0 without incident. D-1919 suffered no immediate or delayed effects from exposure.
Experiment 0C-2: Live Subject Interaction
Participants: D-1920
Description: D-1920 instructed to approach SCP-0 and attempt to place her hand into it's apparent body. D-1920 was then instructed to move around SCP-0 while her hand was inside it. She was then instructed to move her arm out of SCP-0 sideways, as opposed to directly into or out of.
Results: D-1920's hand passed straight through the surface of SCP-0, but instead of entering it, her hand appeared on the other side of SCP-0's body. It appears that matter cannot enter SCP-0, but is transported instantly to the corresponding point on the opposite side of it's body. When moving around SCP-0 while doing this, her hand was seen to move as well, maintaining a position on a point opposite to the entry point of her hand. When moving her arm out sideways, her hand tracked the position of her wrist and slid across SCP-0's surface until it connected. D-1920's arm was unscathed and suffered no ill effects.
Experiment 0C-3: Live Subject Operation
Participants: D-1921
Description: [The following was recovered from CCTV footage of the cell] D-1921 instructed to approach SCP-0 and attempt to communicate to it. He was provided with a script and several other instructions, and cooperated at first, but was unsteady and stuttering. Researchers decided to end the experiment and find a replacement D-class, which further destabilised D-1921. D-1921 began to ask for SCP-0 for help, desperately pleading, when he reached out and touched it.
Result: SCP-0 was unresponsive until D-1921 touched it. The experiment cell and surrounding walls were then spatially distorted, killing the researchers, attendant security officers and D-1921. Technicians from the prior recovery logs were then called and SRAs were used to correct the anomaly. Hume level measurements during the process revealed that the Hume levels of the spatial anomaly were far above background, but slowly return to normal as the spatial anomaly was corrected. SCP-0 vanished however, and could not be located.
Note: SCP-0 was later found in the containment cell of a reality bender, who apparently caught it as it was travelling through his cell at extreme speeds.
Addendum 0X: Dr. Boyarov's Consultation Report.
Addendum 0Y: Note from Dr. Faust: Boyarov was right.
