Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-5119 are to be stored in a standard restricted containment locker at ARC-Site 48. The locker should always have at least one on duty guard outside of it.
Description: SCP-5119 appears as an ornate Colombina mask that can be propped up easily onto the face. Upon putting it on, the wearer will be able to observe the memories of anyone who has worn an instance of SCP-5119, however, as a side effect, wearers will slowly begin to lose their memories the longer they wear SCP-5119. This begins with older memories and ends with the memory of when the user put SCP-5119 on. Multiple tests show that no matter how old or how many memories the wearer has, it always takes exactly 90 seconds for all memories to be lost. After taking SCP-5119 off the memories seem not to be recoverable. If all of the wearers are lost, SCP-5119 will peel off, leaving a mask on the wearer and creating a new instance of SCP-5119. After this, the wearer will become languid and unresponsive to any outside stimulation, until they eventually die. Reactions to wearing SCP-5119 for a prolonged amount of time vary. Most wearers suffer permanent damage to the Fusiform Gyrus, heavily impairing their facial recognition abilities and giving them extreme Prosopagnosia. The full range of effects is still being documented.
This includes:
-The desire to hide one's face
-The spontaneous urge to dance (usually a ballroom dance)
-Sudden changes in preferred clothing style, usually to 15th-century type clothes.
-Missing words in the wearer's vocabulary
-The wish to put SCP-5119 back on
-Nervous breakdowns due to "Not knowing enough"
-Sudden and uncontrollable mood shifts
-Severely impaired time management skills
The first found instance SCP-5119 was taken into containment from an American family living in Idaho who had recently gone on vacation to Venice. They bought SCP-5119 in a souvenir shop and one day the father put on SCP-5119 to try to scare their child. Shortly after they became unresponsive and the police were contacted. The father was reported to mutter about seeing horrible things and The Foundation received clearance to intervene and contain and test on SCP-5119. Any individuals who came into contact with the family and the family were administered amnestics. The father was brought in for questioning, and after not being able to answer any questions, was terminated. It is unknown but likely that other instances of SCP-5119 exist and the foundation is working to recover them.
While most instances of SCP-5119 are easily breakable via blunt force or acids, the originally recovered instance is not, being seemingly indestructible. Some researchers are curious about what would happen if SCP-5119 came into contact with SCP-106 or the secretions of SCP-035 but due to the extreme risks that either of these experiments would cause, tests have not been performed.
Addendum: Although SCP-5119 could be useful, it remains mostly unused due to the harm it can cause its wearers. After some testing, SCP-5119 seems to be affected by http://www.scpwiki.com/scp-714 (<- that would be a cleaned up link). While all side effects seem to be prevented, including the damage to the Fusiform Gyrus, the loss of memories is not stopped or even slowed, however subjects wearing SCP-714 still have the fear reaction to SCP-5119 and will rarely even wear it, leading test results to still be inconclusive. Due to the location SCP-5119 was originally purchased, it is theorized it may be related to http://www.scpwiki.com/scp-035 however no proof of this has been found.
