Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of the object and its distance from the Earth, it is currently impossible to contain the anomaly. Mass disinformation is to be disseminated across all academic journals and public media to conceal the truth about SCP-XXXX. An information blackout is also to be enforced to prevent a level 5 Armageddon scenario.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an extremely luminous pulsar approximately 57 parsecs away from the Earth in the constellation of Gemini with the official designation SP835-4510. The anomaly is a neutron star, twelve miles in diameter and completes approximately 373,000 revolutions per minute - far exceeding theoretical limits. The object violates all current understanding of stellar evolution and particle physics. The energy source of the anomaly is currently unknown.

The star has a very stable spin and emits immense jets of gamma radiation at its poles. These jets do not intersect the Earth's orbit - displaced by an angle of approximately $1.453 \times 10^6$ arcseconds. Although these jets do not currently present a threat, SCP-XXXX is undergoing a precession of its rotational axis. It is thought the extremely energy-dense region of space it inhabits, due to the rapid spin caused by its anomalous properties, causes frame-dragging. The latest data obtained on the pulsar suggests the anomaly's poles will align with our planet in the year 2131 with a 94% confidence level.

Any sustained exposure to the gamma-rays of the pulsar will be devastating for life on Earth; Living organisms in the path of the beam will be irradiated and widespread cellular necrosis will onset within seconds. The entire surface of the planet will be rendered completely uninhabitable.

In addition to the direct biological impact of SCP-XXXX, there will also be secondary effects. Most notably, the planet's atmosphere will be destroyed. The reaction between gamma rays and ozone, O3 is well understood and will increase the radiation levels at the planet's surface - contributed largely by UV rays coming from the Sun and high-energy cosmic rays. Earth's biosphere will disappear rapidly rendering survival on the surface impossible. It may take in excess of 100,000 years for a substantial atmosphere to renew.

Plans are being developed to mitigate the impact of SCP-XXXX. Work has begun on the construction of a megastructure approximately 2.5 miles below ground level. The structure will be fully integrated with existing SCP sites. The structure dubbed site [REDACTED] must be fully self-sustaining with the potential to host thousands of generations of humans and animals - a far-stretching time horizon will allow the foundation to ramp up capacity substantially.

Addendum:
A1.0: Further revisions of SCP-XXXX's rotational velocity have been performed with tragic implications. The new data suggests the object is rotating at a rate which is 19% higher than previously thought. This has brought the impact date forward to 2088. The O-5 council has been briefed and efforts are already being accelerated.
