Special Containment Procedures: [DATA NON-EXISTENT] SCP-5791 is currently scouring the planet Earth, under constant supervision of 35 NEON mobile stations positioned by Site Directors (SD-5791) globally. Long-distance picoscopic thermal ultra-imaging (LDPTUI) scans register its location upon observation, and location thereafter is calculated through probability functions. Upon a case of entrance in any household/establishment containing humans, Operation Diverges is to be administered with extreme care and supervision:

• The subject/s SCP-5791-An is/are to be quarantined in human-sized acrylic glass cages, with the illumination of high-intensity arc lamp spotlights, slowly descended and placed carefully from where they are currently standing. The subjects must STAY EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE.
• Shadow of SCP-5791-An must not have direct contact with any other proximate shadow. MTF Epsilon-6 is in charge of subject containment procedures and monitoring SCP-5791's location.
• The glass cages will contain only a single object (SO) that produces a shadow.
• Upon entry of the glass cages, SCP-5791-An is to stand near the SO and await further instructions from the monitoring MTF, for SCP-5791 to exit the subject's shadow and relocate to SO's shadow.
• Upon verified relocation, SCP-5791-An is to be released and returned to its household/establishment. MTF Zeta-9 is in charge of subsequent containment procedures if an attempt with SO is successful. A successful operation happens about 5.79% of the time, where SCP-5791 is enclosed until sudden quantum tunneling allows it to escape.
• Otherwise, both SCP-5791-An and corresponding SO will fall at an initial velocity of 5 m/s and an acceleration of 9 m/s² into SCP-5791-A.

The phenomenon when SCP-5791-A occurs is termed as shadowing.

Description: SCP-5791 is currently of unknown measurement and origin, with all observations of it only existing within shadows. Different proposals for SCP-5791's form are stated as follows:

• SR¹ Atmillo's theory describes SCP-5791 as a point in three-dimensional space similar to a singularity and will possibly decay in ██████ years.
• SR Cínolone states SCP-5791 as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and apparently serves as proof for the existence of a God.
• SR Gunnia describes SCP-5791 as a two-dimensional anomaly, occurring only on Earth's tangible surfaces. According to her theory, SCP-5791's "dark strength" depends on existing illumination, but nonetheless effectively shadows various subjects.
• SR Morrison expounds on SCP-5791's properties in water. Logs SCP-5791-OL195 to -OL273 specify how the subjects submerged in water with SCP-5791 are apparently sliced and distributed evenly during shadowing.
• SR Hickson's theory, a.k.a. the Atmillo-Gunnia Theory unifies the two SRs' researches while including supporting equations. The model describes an almost massless point with a particle-wave duality, comparable to an electron.
• SR Dengienne states that SCP-5791 is deterministic, how SCP-5791's mobility is affected by its environment about 97.51% of the time and theorizes a parallel universe where many SCP-5791-An subjects eventually end up².
• SR Riviera derives from Dengienne's study and expounds on SCP-5791 as an entrance to a pocket dimension, and adds that it requires additional dimensions (at least 1█ more) to further understand it since it doesn't seem to be affected by gravity.

SCP-5791-A is a dark region created by SCP-5791 at random times. SCP-5791-A's presentation interval varies from once to thrice every Earth's rotation. Due to its strange nature, SCP-5791-A is colloquially the "hole", where SCP-5791-An colloquially "fall". Due to SCP-5791's inconsistent intervals, and the uncertainty of return³, there has never been any attempt at gathering data within SCP-5791-A.

SCP-5791-An, where n refers to ordinal count⁴, are temporary names for subjects whose shadows have SCP-5791 in them. This is generally used by the MTFs for quick referral of subjects, and the ordinal count is reset every time Operation Diverges is ceased. Reported cases have subjects ranging from humans (75%) and other living things (20%) to inanimate objects (5%).

The following account was recorded in the Victorian era, January 5, 1826. The following text was documented by the great-great-grandmother of who turned out to be future former O5-█. The Council member's testimonial and proof are only available to Level 5 personnel. The text was found on burnt paper, debris in the 1834 Parliament fire of London, by a street-sweeper who became an international lawyer in the late 1800s, and donated the preserved document to the Foundation after almost 2█ years from its initial discovery.

01/05/1826, 4:30 in the morning. I saw him, our servant ███, outside the yard, digging out the weeds. Usual morning, except that he suddenly fell to the ground, and then he was gone. I woke up my husband and called our other servants first before I wrote this down, and we looked everywhere until dawn just to find out where he went, only to no avail. Everyone in this household now thinks I'm either dreaming or delusional when I saw it, but I can't be mistaken.

Moreover, I never told them the whole truth. I just said he went missing outside. Never told them he fell on some kind of [DATA EXPUNGED] that looked as if it was his own [DATA EXPUNGED] that led to his demise. I felt sorry for his family since he was [DATA EXPUNGED] and I was the only real witness to that [DATA EXPUNGED]. On further historical analysis, the servant named ███ later turned out to be a direct descendant of Jack the Ripper; specifically, the father of the notorious serial killer.

Around the time of the Foundation's growing members, this observation was a testimonial from an anonymous Laotian in 1968. Accidental discovery & verification was obtained by American SR ████████, who, coincidentally on vacation in Laos, sought one local D-class personnel (D-004563) to translate the following audio transcript:

Akamu: *suddenly kneels and pleads* Oh no, I'm sorry, please don't capture me… it's not me, please, it's not me!!

D-004563: *to SR ████████* He thinks we're going to arrest him.

SR ████████: Oh no, please! You're mistaken! We believe your story, even with how ludicrous it sounds… according to your friends and neighbors.

Akamu: *sobbing* …oh, so, uhm… what are you here for?

SR ████████: Information, that's all… and we are in charge of trying to keep this thing, whatever it may be, to keep it away from maybe harming other people. Please, let us sit down.

Akamu: *slightly sobbing* I'm sorry, it was just a scary sight. I can't get it off my mind.

SR ████████: Please calm down, sir, and just tell us what happened.

Akamu: Let me get tea first.

Akamu gives the cups to SR ████████ and D-004563.

Akamu: It was sunrise, almost 5. Too bad we don't have a clock in here, but anyway, he was there. He woke up early, went to that rain tree, rested his back on the trunk, laid on the grass. He looked at the horizon on his right. I saw it too, only I was inside this house…

Akamu covers his face with both of his hands.

Akamu: *looked at SR ████████, astonished* Then he was gone!

SR ████████: How, sir, how?

Akamu:stands up The Earth swallowed him whole! It's unbelievable! I ran toward where he was but he's gone, and the grass became fewer as well!

SR ████████: Calm down, sir. How exactly did the Earth, as you say, swallowed him?

Akamu: The soil didn't move, but it looked like there was a hole underneath him, and then he fell underground, together with some of the grass! A descending scream was all I heard! Come here, this is where he disappeared!

The three walked out to check the rain tree. After this, SR ████████ asked Akamu and the other Laotians who the general is. They inspected the leftover papers and verified the Japanese general as Masanobu Tsuji, a World War II army officer who was involved in some major Japanese atrocities. SR ████████ and D-004563 give thanks to the people shortly before leaving. Akamu reportedly lived peacefully and died 5█ years later due to old age. The Foundation currently keeps the leftover papers and devoids Laos and Japan of any information regarding Tsuji's disappearance.

The NEON operators are in charge of disseminating atmospheric memetic agents to turn mentions of Tsuji, "the ground reaper", "the sunrise monster", and "the dark consumer" into low-level conspiracies and/or Laotian myths.
