SCP-3043
SAFE[STRUCK]
EUCLID
ATTENTION: AS OF INCIDENT 3043-UAE-6 AND 3043-UAE-7 (SCP-3043 UNEXPECTED ANOMALIC EVENT #6 AND #7), SCP-3043 HAS BEEN ELEVATED TO EUCLID STATUS. AS SUCH, RECORDS ACCESS TO SCP-3043 HAS BEEN RESTRICTED TO LEVEL 4 AND ABOVE. FURTHER TESTING IS NOT CURRENTLY POSSIBLE AS THE PHYSICAL CONSTRUCTION OF SCP-3043 HAS BEEN NEUTRALIZED, BUT IS LIKELY STILL "ALIVE" IN AN INCORPOREAL FORM. SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES SHALL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR WHAT PREVIOUSLY WAS THE GLASS IDOL, NOW APPROXIMATELY 400 GRAMS OF SAND. THIS SAND'S DESIGNATION IS SCP-3043-1. THE ETHEREAL JACKAL'S DESIGNATION IS SCP-3043-2. PLEASE LOG ANY FURTHER SIGHTINGS OF SCP-3043-2 IN THE ADDENDUM BELOW.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3043 is to be held in a glass box of appropriate size. In the interest of preserving SCP-3043, the chamber shall be heated/cooled to a steady 30 degrees Celsius, ensuring that SCP-3043 is exposed to as little change in environment as possible. The chamber must be, at minimum, 12m cubed to fully contain SCP-3043's Cognitohazardous Aura beyond any reasonable doubt. A brightly colored yellow, orange, and/or red line must be painted around the circumference of a circle measuring 4.0 meters in radius. This is to make clear how close an individual may get without being in potential danger. The chamber is not to be entered or opened without proper decontamination protocol and equipment obtainment beforehand. Required equipment is listed below. This is purely for the sake of SCP-3043, so decontamination is not required upon leaving the chamber. Two armed security guards should be posted at the entrance at all times.[Requires a minimum clearance level of 3 to access.]STRUCK] SEE WARNING AT BEGINNING OF DOCUMENT.
Description: SCP-3043 is a small, glass idol resembling a jackal. When a human is within a minimum of 2.5m, SCP-3043 begins to invade the subject's mind with psychic waves, lulling the subject into a hypnotic daze within seconds, although these waves can be obstructed with standard Anti-Cognitohazard equipment. 30-40 seconds after initial exposure, the subject enters a state of complete detachment from reality, failing to respond to any external stimulus. The subject is observed to be in a, for lack of a better term, "coma". The subject's brain continues to function as if it was awake, but it is impossible to garner any reaction from the subject. This usually lasts for about 8 minutes before the subject's heart stops, followed by brain death 5 minutes later.
These effects will only persist for as long as the subject is within 2.5m of SCP-3043, with the effect instantly becoming lifted once the subject's brain has exceeded 2.5m in distance from SCP-3043. The subject regains conciousness instantly, but exhibits signs of mental and physical fatigue similar to severe sleep deprivation. Soon after, the subject falls into a deep slumber of which seems to be an effect of the intense strain SCP-3043 places on the nervous system.
Psychological evaluations reveal that all of the subjects had "experienced death", with vague and often contradictory descriptions along the lines of "a 'bright place', everything is 'with itself', wrapped in 'cool warmth'". However, there is one specific vision that all 7 subjects vividly recall: A jackal's silhouette, with deep, piercing, fully magenta eyes that lack any distinction of pupils or irises, and contrast sharply with its thin, dark coat. The jackal is with them in an ocean that seems to be infinitely wide, but mere centimeters shallow. A deep sunset illuminates the calm waters beneath them, sharing the intense magenta hue of the jackal's radiant stare. Upon making eye contact, a diamond sun (Diamond, meaning a square rotated to align its 4 vertexes with North, South, East, and West; not the shape of a carbon diamond cut for jewelry) fades in from behind the jackal's head as the jackal's gaze pierces through them with what is described as "honest love" whilst a somber tune hums in the background. The sun continues to grow in intensity until the subject is blinded by the light, although subjects report that this is not painful. The variations in descriptions only differ in the vernacular and vocabulary of the subjects, leading to the conclusion that all subjects experienced the same dream.
(NOTE: All 7 subjects described the way the jackal looked at them as with "honest love" or "truthful love" without any exceptions. 5 subjects elaborated that they did not mean sexual or romantic love, but rather an understanding and protective love.)
5 subjects also test perfectly on the MARS, regardless of their score prior to the trial. These subjects report "knowing everything is going to be ok". The 2 subjects that did not score perfectly suffer from mental illnesses (One Bipolar, other Schizophrenic), but still scored abnormally high for the mentally ill. The subjects reported to be in much healthier states mentally, albiet not fully cured. These claims have been validated by a psychological evaluation on both subjects.
SCP-3043 was found by [REDACTED[Paleontologist Trenton Corleone] in [REDACTED[the Glass Dunes of Egypt], wrapped in 2.5 meters of linen (presumably to preserve it), inside [REDACTED[a coffer/reliquary decorated with exceedingly strange designs of unknown origin]. The exact area where SCP-3043 was found [is currently being scouted as an excavation site to be used by the Foundation .]STRUCK] has successfully been secured as
Excavasite-Glass122 (Exs-Glass122).
«<As of 4-11-2017, Exs-Glass122 has uncovered numerous artifacts of unknown function, but has temporarily halted function due to an enormous marble-like slab of rock preventing further excavation. Further information on Exs-Glass122 can be found HERE.»>
SCP-3043 measures approx. 9cm tall, 6cm long, and 2 cm wide, when observing it from the front. SCP-3043 is in astonishingly good condition considering how it is assuredly a minimum of 2 thousand years old, very possibly up to 5 or 6 thousand years old. SCP-3043 does exhibit some signs of wear, and under testing, was successfully scratched with a household stainless steel knife, leading to the conclusion that SCP-3043 has been well preserved for most of its life. SCP-3043 additionally emits an extremely faint glow of white light, originating from the head. The light is only observable in total darkness, and is not observable via photograph or video. The light becomes extremely bright and shapes into a diamond with 4 right angles and 4 sides (Note: Subjects attest to this shape being nearly identical to the diamond sun they had witnessed in their dream) for 4 seconds, 5 minutes after a subject's heart stops. However, the diamond does not seem to reflect its light off of any surface, which in turn would provide a conclusion as to why it cannot be recorded. In fact, it is possibly to observe the light through solid matter, although the distance an individual is from SCP-3043 seems to affect its intensity. The light seems to shine with the strength of a star, but has yet to inflict damage on observers, permanent nor termporary. Accompanying the illumination, a melody of bittersweet resolution is briefly played, then fades. This melody always sounds similar, but is never 100% identical to a previous melody. This is heard by all humans within about 2km, and seems to be telepathically communicated, as the sound cannot be recorded, and is not impeded by matter.
SCP-3043 seems to be of ancient Egyptian make, although the exact origin is unclear due to the uniqueness of SCP-3043's glass composition, something that was not practiced in ancient Egypt.
Following 3043-UAE-6, further D-Class subject testing has been green-lighted by 05-__, but has proved fruitless, confirming the current inert status of the disentigrated idol.
Addendum
Notable Unexpected Anomalic Events:
3043-UAE-6: Test Subject D-19342 is pulled from the influence of 3043 and is revived. Upon awakening, D-19342 stands, and walks back towards 3043, saying "It's been so long… I missed you so much…" before cradling 3043 in his arms. 3043 disentigrates into sand, and a phantasm of a large jackal similar to the one described by previous subjects fades in and seemingly comforts the crying subject. The jackal places its chin around the back of the subject's head, cradling the subject. The apparition fades away shortly after. The subject is retrieved from the chamber and is found to be deceased. As of this event, SCP-3043 has been reduced to a seemingly inert pile of dust, as concluded by Testing Sequences 3043-TS-3.
3043-UAE-7: Several hours after 3043-UAE-7, staff members assigned to 3043 report brief hallucinations of the phantom jackal. All hallucinations are identical, with the staff members spotting the jackal from about 5-10 meters away. When it is seen, the jackal walks behind a nearby wall or into a doorway, breaking line of sight and vanishing. Staff members report an incredible compulsion to follow the jackal, but always fail to do so as the jackal disappears. These hallucinations decrease in frequency over the next several days, and eventually cease.
Notable 3043 Testing Sequences:
3043-TS-2a: 3043 emits a bright light and hums a saddening tune as the test subject expires (detailed above)
Approximate digital recreation of the melody reported in 3043-TS-2a.
Note: This is as close as available technology can get to imitating the melody, as certain parts of it are seemingly impossible to replicate due to their anomalic properties.
The artifacts seem to not share the same origins, with many bearing striking resemblance to more commonly found relics of Sumerian and Mesopotamian make. Oddly, a few of the unearthed artifacts seem to have originated in Native South American civilizations, most
