Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained in standard containment lockers available for use by site Psychologists as they see fit. If any contained instances are discovered attempts to track them back to the creator of said instance are to be searched as a low priority. If the contained instance appears on a piece of crying obsidian written with an unknown white chalk attempts to back trace it are to be done as a high priority.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a cognitohazard symbol that can cause a variety of emotional or physical effects when viewed depending on the emotional/physical status or history of the affected individual.

Known 'Positive' effects include:

  • A greater sense of security while in darkness. (This effect goes alongside all other positive effects.)
  • Lessening or removal of chronic depression.
  • Lessening or removal of minor mental disorders such as ADHD, ADD, various eating disorders, etc. (Note that Autism is not affected unless it is severe enough to be generally considered debilitating).
  • Complete removal of serious mental issues including Alzheimer's, Dementia, or Schizophrenia.
  • Healing of minor scratches, splinters, or bruises.
  • Repair of brain trauma. (Does not affect issues the individual wishes to keep, i.e. a psychopath caused by a deformed pituitary gland may not want to stop being a psychopath.)
  • An extreme sense of comfort and sense of security in darkness along with what appears to be therapy from SCP-XXXX-1 while they sleep.

Known 'Negative' effects include:

  • Development of a fear of the dark and shadows. (This effect goes alongside all known negative effects.)
  • Development/worsening of chronic depression.
  • Increase in effect or the development of ADHD, ADD, various eating disorders, etc. (This also includes extreme versions of autism.)
  • Development of extreme mental issues such as Alzheimer's, Dementia, or Schizophrenia.
  • The addition of an extreme, debilitating fear of the dark.
  • A dark disc appearing below the individual and dark tentacle like structures reaching out from the disc and dragging the individual through the disc. (Note that no individual this has occurred to have been recovered as the tentacles don't appear to have a maximum range and have been proven to be able to rip apart steel and [REDACTED])

SCP-XXXX has been found to have an original source designated SCP-XXXX-1 that is commonly seen in dreams of those exposed to SCP-XXXX though SCP-XXXX-1 has never directly interacted with Foundation staff See Addendum XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 appears to be a Caucasian humanoid entity approximately 2 meters tall wearing billowing black robes and a dark gray scarf covering his mouth and unnaturally vibrant blue eyes. SCP-XXXX-1 will often give those affected by an instance of SCP-XXXX that transitions from the dream into the possession of the individual in real life immediately after waking, this piece will always be made of crying obsidian written with an unknown white substance that seems to have no chemical reactions with any material. Individuals who gain this specific instance of SCP-XXXX are generally described as having a strong sense of the Just-World Fallacy, or a strong belief that is how the world should work. Any individual who gains these instances of SCP-XXXX will generally attempt to expose as many people as possible to SCP-XXXX to either help fulfill their belief or feel obligated to.

Additionally if all known instances of SCP-XXXX are contained SCP-XXXX-1 will give a fitting individual not previously affected by SCP-XXXX, and generally a significant distance from any SCP Foundation facilities. This will generally occur 1 to 6 months after any spread of SCP-XXXX is contained, making complete permanent containment impossible.
