Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is a Neutralized SCP Object, and no longer requires active containment. Its cadaver is located at the Site-14 laboratory, pending futher study. A cover story is in place that the cadaver is located at ███████ Cemetary, Illinois. For archival purposes, its former containment procedures are listed below.
SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a modified humanoid containment cell with flame retardant lining on all surfaces, with a sprinkler and backup sprinkler system attached to a smoke alarm as well as a manual switch, the functionality of all of which must be manually confirmed at least once every 2 weeks.
SCP-XXXX is to be allowed access to select Site-14 facilities, (bathroom, cafeteria, computer terminals, and anything deemed necessary by Foundation personnel) only under direct supervision from at least 2 armed guards. SCP-XXXX is not to be allowed near highly flammable or explosive materials at any time.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Caucasian male human with black, neck length hair, brown eyes, and a tall, lanky build. It was born on July 10th, 1996, in the ██████ █████ Hospital, Illinois, to ████ ███████ and ███████ ███████ under the name █████████ ███████.
SCP-XXXX has the ability to manipulate fire, with three limiting factors: it must be able to see the fire it is controlling, it cannot control flames over a certain size, and it requires pre-existing fire to do so. The largest fire SCP-XXXX has ever been observed exerting control over at one time is 0.6 1.3 2.3 4.6 meters in height. When SCP-XXXX exerts control over any amount of flame, it quickly turns to a near-black shade of purple, producing light mostly in the ultraviolet spectrum. While in this state, the flames behave normally, but can be maintained without fuel by SCP-XXXX.
In addition, any corpse SCP-XXXX is able to make direct contact with, with flames in this state, can be granted a fascimile of life if SCP-XXXX wills it. Any corpse returned to life in this manner will be cured of any ailments it had prior to or after death, including the injury or illness that killed it. This effect seems to have no hard limit, as SCP-XXXX has demonstrated its ability to undo damage done to humans and animals whose bodies have been rendered unrecognizable by the severity of both injuries and decomposition. SCP-XXXX reports that the affair is "tiring," but it seems to do no lasting damage to either party.
Anything returned to life by SCP-XXXX, (hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) will behave in much the same manner as it did in life, and will be physically the same as the moment before it died, minus any injuries it had at the time. The only difference is the eyes of the SCP-XXXX-1 instance, which will be completely white, with no iris or pupils. Humans have reported and proven that they can see fine, even humans who were visually impaired or even blind prior to resurrection. Animals also behave in a fashion indicating functional vision. To date, SCP-XXXX has been unable to resurrect anything with no eyes, provided it had no eyes at birth.
Note: Following the events of Incident XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX has been reclassified as Neutralized, and its anomalous effects are assumed to have ceased. SCP-XXXX's cadaver has been placed into cold storage in the Site-14 laboratory for further study. For details on the nature of SCP-XXXX's neutralization, refer to Incident Report XXXX-1.
Recovery Report XXXX: SCP-XXXX first came into Foundation custody on 27/12/2012, when an SCP-X4 Containment Investigative Request Form was filled out by Doctor ████ ███████ in regards to a "black fire" that burned down his residence. 3 field agents were dispatched to assess the situation, and were able to quickly establish containment with the help of Doctor ███████.
Addendum XXXX-1:
The following is a compilation of the major testing logs of SCP-XXXX, omitting redundant tests and tests without notable results.
Test Date: 12/1/2013
Test Subject: SCP-XXXX, henceforth Subject.
Tester: Researcher ████ Davis.
Davis: Alright, XXXX. We're going to get started now. This shouldn't take too long, if you cooperate.
Subject: I don't understand.
Davis: (audibly sighs) You were briefed on the content of today's tests, correct?
Subject: …Yes.
Davis: Then let's get started. There is a gas flame avaliable on the table in front of you. Please take some.
Subject visibly concentrates, holding hand out to the flame. A small portion of the fire turns dark, hovering approximately 3 inches above its hand.
Subject laughs.
Subject: I haven't done this since I was a kid! …I forgot what it feels like.
Davis: Please attempt to make the fire larger.
Subject strains its muscles and begins to sweat, but the fire only grows approximately 10% in height.
The fire quickly dies down and goes out in Subject's hand, as Subject sits down and holds its head.
Davis: Are you hurt, XXXX?
Subject: It's… tiring. I… I can't.
Test Date: 12/3/2013
Test Subject: SCP-XXXX, henceforth Subject.
Tester: Researcher ████ Davis.
Davis: We're going to try to access one of your other abilities today, XXXX.
Subject: You've got to be kidding me. I'm not gonna-
Davis: We have many methods of getting uncooperative test subjects to cooperate. Would you like to experience some of them?
Subject: (shouting) This isn't fair! This isn't right! I shouldn't be kept here! Just when are you going to let me go?
Several seconds of silence.
Subject: Fine. If you really want to see what I can do, let's get this over with.
Davis: There is a gas flame avaliable-
Subject: Yeah. I know. I can see it.
Subject acquires black fire from the bunsen burner on the table in front of it.
Subject: What are you, a robot?
Davis: Please animate the corpse.
Subject: Ani- Animate? It's not a parlor trick, you stupid…
Subject sighs loudly.
Subject: Alright, watch and learn.
Black fire emerges from Subject's palm and encompasses a rabbit carcass. After 2.3 seconds of no movement, the rabbit carcass rises six inches into the air. Its spine lacerations close over, its eyes roll over in its head, and the slight decomposition of the head is reversed. Its eyes are noticeably white, but the rabbit begins to move. After 30.4 seconds, the rabbit lands and starts hopping to the corner of the testing chamber, away from Subject.
Subject bows in an exaggerated fashion.
Subject: Can I go back to my prison cell now?
Test Date: 5/25/2014
Test Subject: SCP-XXXX, henceforth Subject.
Tester: Researcher ████ Davis.
Subject: I don't consent to any of this.
Davis: Yes, you've made that painstakingly clear. We're going to be doing projecting today, so-
Subject: (shouting) HELP! I'M BEING HELD HERE AGAINST MY WILL! MY NAME IS █████████ ███████, I'M AT A SECRET FACILITY NEAR A PINE FOREST LESS THAN AN HOUR FROM █████, ILLINOIS!
Davis: Are you finished?
Subject: Just for your records, you fucking cocksucker.**
Davis: If you're not planning on cooperating today, you can always spend the rest of the day in solitary.
Subject is silent for several seconds.
Subject: What. Do you want. Me to do?
Davis: There is a gas-
Subject: flame avaliable in front of me? Thank you, Sherlock. Your powers of perception are noticed and appreciated.
Subject obtains a black flame of 1.7 meters in height without prompting.
Davis: Please attempt to project the fire at the target on the wall in front of you.
Subject concentrates, and a self-contained irregularly shaped glob of black flame is projected out of its hand, landing on the second-most inner ring of the target.
Subject: Hey, at least some good is coming out of all this testing. Maybe someday I can burn this shithole to the ground and laugh as I resurrect your corpse just to stomp your teeth in again.
Davis: That will be all.
Incident Report XXXX-1:
Report Author: Jack Gardner
I've requested that this article be restricted, and I expect that the higher-ups will agree. In exchange, I'll personally take point on this incident report. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner this SCP is archived, the better. But, since the Foundation is all about study, my mistakes must be catalogued. No one has thus far directly told me anything about it, but I'm guessing that once I'm finished archiving XXXX once I'm finished archiving Sebastian, I'll be amnesticized and relocated. Trust me, this is all relevant. To understand SCP-XXXX, you need to understand my relationship to him.
Sebastian Gardner was born on July 10th, 1996. I was with my wife, Katy, for those hours, as she gave everything she had to push our little spark of life into the world. I keep thinking about those moments, about what she gave for Sebastian to live. She was so tired and in so much pain when it was all over, but she smiled at me. She even asked if I was alright. Imagine that! That kind of thoughtfulness. I guess that's where Seb got it from. I know it wasn't from me.
It couldn't have been more than 2 years after he was born that I realized something was off about Sebastian. We had a… scented candle, I think. A present from one of Katy's cousins, for the baby shower. Anyway, she lit it to take a bath, while my lazy ass was watching He-Man reruns instead of our child, and he wanders into the bathroom. Next thing she knew, our kid had a ball of fire in the palm of his hand, except it wasn't normal fire. It burned dark, and when I ran into the bathroom to see what Katy was screaming about, I knew he was an anomaly.
See, I already worked for the Foundation at that point. I researched an anomaly for years in the form of the San Andreas fault line without even knowing it fresh out of college, and the Foundation eagerly lapped me up when they saw my work. So by the time my infant son was controlling black fire in his hand, I knew exactly what he was, and I knew exactly how dangerous he could be.
The rules were clear in this case. I had to turn my son in to the Foundation. But I couldn't do it. Katy didn't know about my work, for one thing. She thought I was still just a geologist, which was true, I guess. But more than that, I'd seen what the Foundation could do to people they take. He would never be free. He'd be raised as an object, not a person. I couldn't let that happen, so I just… did nothing.
Anyway, fast forward a couple years, and he started learning to control his abilites. Katy was always better at it than I was, and she was able to coax stuff out of him. She was so nurturing, and sweet. Not like me. I couldn't understand the kid. I got angry when I should've been understanding. But, how could I have known what was going on in his head? No… no. This is an official document, and I'm done making excuses for myself.
It's not like it matters at this point, anyway.
Four years ago, we got into another argument. I don't even remember what it was about at this point. I think he wanted to go out with some friends after school? We had to be careful, see. I knew the Foundation had eyes and ears everywhere, and I was still working for them, as quitting out of the blue could have aroused suspicion. He got mad, and suffice to say, he couldn't control himself. The whole house burned down, and I… God help me, I called up the Site Director. Told him I had an anomaly for Retrieval.
Once he was there, he kept asking to see me. My biggest regret in all of this is the way I abandoned him. I got transferred to a different project, yes, but that was per my request. They told him I wasn't allowed to talk to him, but I watched some of the interview logs, and I think it's pretty clear he knew they were lying. I just couldn't face him after that. How could I? What could I say?
