A grove of SCP-XXXX infected hosts. All specimens had their skeletal and nervous systems tapped.

Special Containment Procedures: MTF Rho-14 ("Weed Whackers") is to be deployed to areas affected by SCP-XXXX growths. 3-mile quarantine zones are to be set up around SCP-XXXX growths, and live SCP-XXXX-1 producers are to be incinerated. If a live SCP-XXXX-3 patient is discovered at local hospitals, attending physicians are to be amnesticized and patient custody is to be transferred to the Foundation. Foundation webcrawlers are currently altering informational sources in order to disseminate the idea of natural blood loss and clotting.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an intravenous parasitical disease, afflicting members of the Kingdom Animalia. Microscopic analysis of infection displays infected host cells becoming plant cells, losing organelles typically found in animal cells, and gaining ones found in plants. Transformed areas require sun, liquid, and food, much like nonanomalous plants, resulting in SCP-XXXX leeching water and nutrients from the host. Hosts of SCP-XXXX will typically expire via complete exsanguination, due to SCP-XXXX absorption. Furthermore, roots and branches of SCP-XXXX will frequently pierce through the skin, often sprouting in the venous system itself, prior to causing a complete transmutation. Leftover cadavers will transform, being used by the new plant as a source of nitrogen during decomposition. Cadavers will not leave behind any biological matter, suggesting the transformation or absorption of bones and other typically remaining body parts.

SCP-XXXX is not spread by any vector, but rather by specific instances of plant pollen, hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 producers are not limited by species, ranging from old-growth trees to perennial flowers. SCP-XXXX-1 instances contain a specialized enzyme, SCP-XXXX-2, which produces platelets in the human body, allowing for SCP-XXXX-2 to regulate the body's vascular flow. SCP-XXXX infection typically occurs in six stages:

  1. SCP-XXXX-1 instances enter the body of the host, hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-3, through the respiratory tract.
  2. SCP-XXXX-1 instances latch onto alveoli, spreading SCP-XXXX-2 into the capillary network.
  3. Capillary networks return to the heart, allowing for SCP-XXXX-2 to be spread throughout the body.
  4. SCP-XXXX-2 regulates blood flow in order to cause specific areas to "puncture" easier, providing breeding grounds for SCP-XXXX-2.
  5. SCP-XXXX-2 creates clots, where SCP-XXXX-2 is allowed to propagate. SCP-XXXX-1 instances are later destroyed by the body's natural immune response.
  6. SCP-XXXX-2 will produce platelets in these breeding grounds, which cause transmutation in various body systems, frequently the cardiovascular, integumentary, or skeletal.

The reason SCP-XXXX-2 instances are not targeted by the body's immune response is unknown. It is suggested that platelets protect against other forms of disease, such as thrombocytopenia, causing the body to view the cells as beneficial. Approximately 0.91% of all SCP-XXXX-3 instances display full SCP-XXXX symptoms, with most only reaching the fifth stage, due to natural immunologic response.

SCP-XXXX growths appear most prevalent around areas lacking relative biodiversity, or during seasons of drought and wildfire. As such, the California coast has provided a major source of SCP-XXXX research, due to high, predictable levels of drought and wildfire, as well as ecological dead zones found in Death Valley.

Addendum 1:

Patient Details Incubation Period Results
46 year old male, diabetic. Assumed to be infected due to his tomato garden. 11 days. Patient's arms became wood from a paper birch tree. Patient dead after 5 days. Cause of death ruled to be quick onset of hypocalcemia.
21 year old female, no preexisting conditions. Assumed to be infected due to hikes in a local old-growth forest. 3 days. Patient's ribcage turned into madrone wood. Died 2 days after initial onset. Cause of death ruled to be puncturing of the heart by a stray root.
2 year old female, mild asthma. Assumed to be infected due to a rose placed in her hair during a photo shoot. 5 days. Patient's skull turned into banyan wood. Cause of death ruled to be head trauma.
14 year old male, broken leg. Infected due to flowers given in his hospital room. 1 day. Patient's limbs grew into eucalyptus trunks. Died due to allergens. No location permitted epinephrine injection.

Addendum 2: [old growth forests are mostly made of these people or w/e]
