Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedure: SCP-XXXX instances within Foundation custody are kept in storage containment hangars 91-A and 91-B of Site-91. HDD1 monitors remain active within these buildings at all times. If a fluctuation in Hume level is detected, agents are to pin-point the instance responsible and remove it for examination. SCP-XXXX instances discovered outside of Foundation custody are to be immediately recovered and replaced with a 1:1 replica of gabbro, limestone, or sandstone. SCP-XXXX instances in their position of initial discovery shall not be relocated. These instances are to be monitored for possible activation. Archaeological sites containing these instances such as Grijalba, Batambal, El Silencio, and Finca 6 have been infiltrated and assimilated into Foundation control. All sites require the implementation of an HDD monitor.
Notation by the Department of External Affairs:
I've received inquiries on the necessity of the replacement policy. SCP-XXXX's global fame and current importance within the historical culture of the Republic of Costa Rica has made it's removal from public knowledge impractical. It is in our judgement that the cost of such an operation would far exceed that of current procedures.
- M. White, Director, DEA
Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation given to an assortment of over three hundred petrospheres2 discovered within the Republic of Costa Rica, specifically that of the Diquis Delta region. These spheres were originally found in clusters of up to twenty instances organized in geometric patterns, ranging in size from about 2.5 centimeters to over 2 meters in diameter, and weighing up to 16 metric tons. Details concerning the method used to sculpt and transport these spheres, as well as their composition, are unknown. This is due to the disappearance of the indigenous culture responsible for their construction following the Spanish conquest. SCP-XXXX estimated to have been carved between 200 BC and 1600 CE. Accurate dating of individual instances proves difficult, as majority are no longer in original location of discovery. Private and public interference has lead to relocation and destruction of many instances prior to Foundation involvement.
No singular instance of SCP-XXXX displays an immediate anomalous nature. Prerequisites for activation of the anomalous effects are as of yet not understood. Instances remaining in position of discovery posses 45% higher probability of activation than those relocated. This leads researchers to hypothesis activation is dependent on the instance's position or geographical location. Efforts to relocate original locations, as well as on site position testing of instances currently in containment pending approval. Request for location tracking and re-positioning of SCP-XXXX APPROVED by O5 Council 03/01/2003
Activated SCP-XXXX instances are classified as sonorous rocks3, being capable of emitting a frequency of about 65.40625 hz when stimulated. Activated instances respond to the production of musical tone within it's vicinity. Frequency and duration of tones which generate a response from SCP-XXXX are varied, but inconsistent.
When stimulated, activated instance generate discrepancies within the hume field of the surrounding area. These discrepancies are minor, but will at times produce alterations to aspects of the space. Recorded alterations include:
- Generation of flora and poaceae species indigenous to Diquis Delta region
- Slight elevation of spacial temperature consistent with climate of Diquis Delta region
- Degradation of chemical elements within air and/or soil possibly harmful to present organisms
Changes persist despite ceasing of sonorous stimulation and are non reversible via standard methods.
Discovery Log: Initial public discovery of SCP-XXXX unverified, earliest known documented siting dates to 1930 by United Fruit Company during excavations of Diquis Delta region for the purpose of plantation development. Workers of UFC ordered to remove SCP-XXXX from area then proceeded to displace/destroy instances with the use construction equipment and dynamite. Consecutive scientific study of 1943 conducted by █████ █████ resulted in no findings of anomalous nature. This lead relocation of instances to public spaces such as tourist destinations, government offices, parks, and museums.
Anomalous nature of SCP-XXXX discovered when armature musician ████ ████ visited the Republic of Costa Rica on 11/21/1996. Subject was touring locations known for possessing SCP-XXXX instances and began to play an acoustic guitar. Single activated instance nearby responded to this sonorous stimulation, generating what was described as a "low ringing noise". SCP-XXXX produced several native species of orchidaceae4 within a radius of about 20 meters. Foundation intercepted local security reports to law enforcement and investigated all archaeological sites containing SCP-XXXX. Shortly there after O5 Council approved the commencement of Operation Bag of Sand, in which agents seized and replaced all displaced instances, finalizing on 29/05/2002. Majority of instances are now under Foundation custody. However, there remain instances retaining original position which are as of yet undiscovered.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedure: All SCP-XXXX instances are to be transported to storage containment hangar 92-Δ of Area-925 located in Talamanca, Costa Rica. All personnel currently associated to SCP-XXXX research team are now assigned to Area-92. Instances not already in Foundation custody are to be recovered and replaced, exceptions for instances remaining in their position prior to discovery now lifted. Testing of activated SCP-XXXX instances require level 3 clearance. Testing is to occur within a standard containment chamber monitored by a minimum of 2 members of personnel, including the current Lead Researcher of SCP-XXXX. Testing of cluster-activation requires level 4 clearance, and is to occur within Area-92 principle examination chamber while monitored by all members of SCP-XXXX research team.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation given to an assortment of over three hundred petrospheres discovered within the Republic of Costa Rica, specifically that of the Diquis Delta region. These spheres were originally found in clusters of up to twenty instances organized in geometric patterns, ranging in size from about 2.5 centimeters to over 2 meters in diameter, and weighing up to 16 metric tons.
The activation of the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX require specific spacial positioning in concordance with one another. In essence, the majority of SCP-XXXX instances can only become activated when positioned in a geometric pattern with a minimum of two other specific SCP-XXXX instances. Exact data regarding to which instances are compatible with which other instances is in the processes of analysis. However, due to the large quantity of SCP-XXXX instances and lack of documentation of their initial discovery, few activation methods have been developed.
Activated SCP-XXXX instances are classified as sonorous rocks, being capable of emitting a frequency of about 65.40625 hz when stimulated. Activated instances respond to the production of musical tone within it's vicinity. Single activated instances produce minor discrepancies within the hume field of the surrounding area. This allows SCP-XXXX to slightly modify it's surroundings to match that of the Diquis Delta region. When several instances are simultaneously activated, designated a cluster-activation6, combined frequencies emitted will increase in strength. Cluster-activations produce significant hume field discrepancies, and the resulting modifications are subsequently severer, effecting a radius of up to 4000 meters. Recorded modifications of a cluster-action include:
- Rapid growth of large vegetation native to the Diquis Delta region
- Terrain deformation and seismic disturbances
- Climate change and inconsistent meteorological shifts
- Atmospheric and sedimentary purification
- Gradual accumulation of fresh water into a singular body
- Creation and rapid development of single cell organisms (hypothesized that if activation is sustained would produce complex lifeforms)
Upon cease of stimulation or re-positioning of one and/or several activated instances of the cluster, these alterations eventually subside. Changes are non reversible.
Addendum XXXX.01: Test Log-064
The following is the first of three successfully recorded cluster-activations. Prior testing produced results consistent with that of initial anomalous effect discovery, and thus scope of cluster-activation was unanticipated. This resulted in a national inquiry. After extensive operation to conceal incident, containment of SCP-XXXX has been adjusted.

The activation of the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX require specific spacial positioning in concordance with one another. In essence, the majority of SCP-XXXX instances can only become activated when positioned in a geometric pattern with a minimum of two other specific SCP-XXXX instances.
Activated SCP-XXXX instances are capable of manipulating their surrounding hume field in an encircling radius of up to about XXXX meters when exposed to specific musical tones. This manipulation allows SCP-XXXX to alter physical aspects of its surroundings. It was originally believed that these alterations were meant to duplicate meteorological and environmental properties of the Diquis Delta region. However, results of further testing of cluster-activations leads researchers to believe that the spacial alterations SCP-XXXX are capable of have no specific limitations. Sonic stimulation of clustered SCP-XXXX instances have been recorded to produce the following additional effects:
- Generation of foliage and flora originating from various global regions
- Atmospheric temperature alteration at maximum of 100°C (decrees or increase)
- Degradation of surrounding surface area to the form of gravel, silt, or sand
- Alteration of surrounding surface area to the form of fertile soil, obsidian, solid ice, or glass.
- Generation of self-originated fire, volcanic rock, sterile water, salt water, mist, dust particles, static electricity, and plasma.
- Subatomic alterations within inorganic and organic subjects inside area of effect
- Complete disintegration of inorganic and organic subjects inside area of effect
For in-depth record and analysis of spacial positioning and tones utilized in order to produce the prior effects, please refer to the "XXXX-Position to Tone Relation Guide".
Due to the possibly hazardous nature of alterations, testing has been temporarily suspended. In light of testing suspension, examination of SCP-XXXX's origin has been dictated principle subject of study for research personnel of Area-92. Potential utilization of SCP-XXXX in miscellaneous fields by Foundation is under review.

Analysis of Costa Rican Historical Context in Relation to SCP-XXXX
B. Gutierrez, Lead Researcher, Area 92The topic of SCP-XXXX's construction presents to us a substantial challenge as a research team. Obstacles such as the lack of any record of construction, difficulty in the stratigraphy process, and tampering by civilian elements leave us with little recourse. Current archaeological theory suggests the stone were carved by local Mesoamerican tribes, and functioned as a societal signifier of power or influence, with larger stones being owned by individuals higher in the civilization's hierarchy. However, historical records indicate the Mesoamerican tribes of the Republic of Costa Rica were far less advanced in societal structure than those of other Mesoamerican communities from whom also originate anomalous artifacts, such as the Aztecs. It is an enigma then how a relatively underdeveloped people were capable of creating an anomaly of such powerful magnitude. This has lead us to further investigate the possibility of an external influence on the civilization, or an entirely unrelated source of construction.
The Folklore/Mythology Unit (FMU) of the Field Research Department assisted us in the analysis of Costa Rican legend, the purpose of which was the search for information discredited by conventional archaeology study. This in of itself also presented us with difficulty. Legend directly related to SCP-XXXX is vast due to the subject's fame as an "out-of-place artifact". The majority of this is simple modern day speculation. Adding to this impediment is the removal and substitution of indigenous Costa Rican culture during the Spanish conquest. This resulted in folk lore of the Puntarenas province, home of the Diquis Delta region, to be influenced heavily by the Christian church rather than by indigenous mythology. The modern day Térraba whom claim responsibility for the construction of the stones demonstrate no knowledge of anomalous capabilities. However, the Bribri tribe, also native to the Puntarenas province, do sustain some religious mythology possibly related to SCP-XXXX, known as sũwõ.
This manifests in the legend of the hero and creation deity figure of Sibú. This subject was said to be a member of an ancient demon race titled the Sòrburu which ruled the Earth prior to man. Sibú confronted and defeated his own people, taking reign over the Earth. Sibú then began to shape the Earth itself, giving it new form of his liking. Presence of objects titled "magical rocks" throughout this legend and the thematic similarity to SCP-XXXX's anomalous nature prompted us to conduct further research. However, a significant connection has yet to be established.

Method of construction and original purpose of SCP-XXXX are currently unknown, however, research of historical data suggests anomalous external interference of the native Diquis Delta inhabitants lead to their manufacture. Further research into construction has been suspended indefinitely, as all personnel are to consider the Adaptive Containment Enclosure Project as priority assignment.
Addendum XXXX.01: Adaptive Containment Enclosure Project Briefing
The Adaptive Containment Enclosure Project was conceptualized and approved after SCP-XXXX research team presented conjecture on potential utilization of SCP-XXXX in the containment of other entities within Foundation custody. This project involves the implementation of SCP-XXXX instances into specialized containment units designed to automatically produce tones depending on the nature of the anomalous entity which it encases. This, accompanied by interior cameras, sensors, HDD monitors, and specifically programmed A.I for each unit situated with containment protocols of contained entity allows these units to autonomously adapt itself to meet containment requisites. These units have been dubbed Adaptive Containment Enclosures (ACEs).
There are currently ██ operational ACEs, all of which are kept on floor 3 of Area-92 for purposes of surveillance and maintenance. Construction of additional enclosures requires O5 Council authorization. Construction process is then to be overseen by a Level 5-Δ Chief Construction Officer. E&TS are designated mandatory 3 week preparation period prior to implementation of SCP-XXXX instances. If conscripted into construction team of the ACE project, refer to the "Base Adaptive Containment Enclosure Construction Manual" and the "XXXX-Position to Tone Relation Guide Volum 02".
For a listing of all anomalies currently contained or tested within the ACE project, refer to the "Adaptive Containment Enclosure Inventory" document. The transfer of additional anomalous entities into the containment of Area-92 is available for request by current Project Administrator assigned by the Containment Committee. Such requests must include justification for testing of requested subjected within the ACE project. These requests are to be reviewed by O5 Council for approval. Testing within the ACE Project requires supervision of at least 1 Level 5-Δ researcher.

Containment hangar 92-Δ is to be outfitted with a Scranton Reality Anchor (SRA) who's functionality must be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis. SCP-XXXX-ö̀ is to be kept in standard containment chamber of Area-42 also outfitted with a single SRA.12. In the event of SCP-XXXX-ö̀ breach from chamber, security staff to prepare yellow level emergency procedures. If SCP-XXXX-ö̀ makes contact with SCP-XXXX instances security staff are not to respond with hostility and to prepare red level emergency procedures. Staff is to record all interactions between SCP-XXXX-ö̀ and SCP-XXXX instances.
Researcher Note: Pardon my frankness, but I feel this should be said directly. The anchors are mostly for show. Yes, they have some effect on SCP-XXXX-ö̀, but its understanding of hume field manipulation exceeds ours. It is difficult to compete with an entity for which the bending of reality is second nature. The only real leverage we have over SCP-XXXX-ö̀ is its apparent fascination with aspects of human society, and to a greater degree, of humans themselves. Humor it, answer its questions, be polite, take notes. If we play our roles correctly, then we may just learn a thing or two.
Besides, as long as we have the stones, we have the monkey.
