SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locker at site 132. No virtual games or internet access is to be anywhere between 400-500 meters from SCP-XXXX, unless authorized by no less than two level 3 researchers. Any infected games are to be stored along side SCP-XXXX. All infected games are to be left on with connected monitors or destroyed per the abducted players request.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a yellow game cartridge with "Press A to Jump" written on its exterior. SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous trait is its ability to infect any form of virtual game within a 400-500 meter radius with SCP-XXXX-Z1, this includes digital versions of board games.
Infected games go through 5 stages of SCP-XXXX-Z.

Stage 1: The infection begins with the appearance of a previously unseen character in the background, here by referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1's that have appeared in stage one of the infection range from a glitchy humanoid to fully developed sprite, though all posses an extremely detailed black tuxedo. Once SCP-XXXX-1 is noticed by the player, they will begin to have a strong urge to finish or beat the game, regardless of what stage of infection the player reaches.

Stage 2: The infection starts to create patches in the background warping and changing it, this usually takes a few days after initial infection. Changes will worsen with every pause, death/loss or the deactivation of the game, until the background is a either completely darkness, an image the players friends and family being tortured or what D-Class have described as hell.

Stage 3: After multiple games with the "new" background, SCP-XXXX-1 will begin to "change" the game-play of the virtual game, moving through levels or the screen to do so. These changes consists of making the game harder, more deadly and more physically suited for its background image.

Stage 4: In this stage the infection completely removes the ability to pause or turn off the game. making the console and TV/Monitor indestructible in the process. during this second last stage players will become reportedly fixated on completely the game, causing their character to lose/die over and over again until the infection reaches stage five.

Stage 5: After approximately 24 hours after the start of stage 4, the player will suddenly become aware of the time they have spent play the game and attempt to quit or leave the game, but find they cannot move or let go of the interaction device2. This effect creates panic and distress in the player, while making further attempts to "escape". As of writing, there is currently no know way to remove the player from their position during this stage. after 10 minutes of struggling the player will notice SCP-XXXX-1 beginning to walk towards the screen, despite witnesses claiming that the game was displaying the stage four screen. Once SCP-XXXX-1 reaches the screen, it will extend its hands out and grab the player, dragging them through the screen. Recordings of this stage show D-Class being dragged by nothing and seemingly vanishing after the are "pulled" through the screen, after which turns off.

Proceeding the conclusion of stage 5, the game3 will become playable by others, but the changes will remain as well as the playable character being replaced with the original player. Games that allow the main character to speak allow the previous player to speak as well, this was what allowed for interviews to take place4.
