Item #: SCP-4988
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4988 is to be kept in a 1 inch thick, locked aluminum case. Removal from the designated chamber is prohibited due to the fear of complete SCP security system failure. Entering the chamber is allowed only for maintenance (During which the aluminium case shall not be opened.) and experiments (Opening the case is allowed). Any personnel that enters the chamber must wear a hazmat suit laced with a mixture of copper and aluminum for maximum security.
Description: SCP-4988 is an old laptop reminiscent of the Compaq SLT model from 1988. It was found 5 days ago in a field near ████, South America. This field is known among the locals for causing nausea, sickness and other such symptoms if one was to be near it for longer than ███████. Local law enforcement was contacted to secure the area, after which a team of SCP researchers was sent out to the location. The research was stopped after the researches had to be hospitalized for the previously mentioned symptoms. The researchers told the pick up team:
We tried to contact you to come pick us up, but the radio connection kept getting interrupted.
They also added that this could be a sign of rouge radio waves coming from somewhere in the field.
After the researchers recovered, they started looking into what could have been causing those radio waves. The field was completely empty so the source must have been under the field. After this discovery a prototype for a anti-radio wave suit was created and tested on the field. The suit seemed to postpone the effects of the radio waves for about ███████ which made it possible to search for the radio wave source. After a day of searching, the source was located █████ from the center of the field, buried █████ underground. The object was immediately contained and taken to the SCP containment facility for testing.
After SCP-4988 was taken into the building the security system malfunctioned and almost opened all the chambers. Thankfully, due to the quick reaction of our guards, SCP-4988 was immediately taken outside, at which point the security system started working again. Before taking it back into the building, SCP-4988 was but into a 1 inch thick aluminum case to stop the radio waves from interfering with the security system. It was put into a designated chamber in which it shall stay until further notice.
Experiment 1:
After containment, a group of three (3) D-class prisoners was sent into the chamber to attempt to power on the laptop (Which they successfully did.). Upon activation, the laptop makes a high-pitched melodic noise which caused the test subjects to freeze in place. After 2 minutes of the subjects not moving, the power to SCP-4988 was cut as an attempt to power it off. This attempt failed, the object stayed powered on. At this point, two (2) guards in anti-radio wave suits were sent in to power off the object and escort the subjects out of the chamber. The subjects were placed into their cells and monitored until they "woke up",1 after which, they were interviewed.
