Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-5640 is contained in a 7 centimeter thick lock-box made of a silver and iron alloy and fitted with 2 types of clearance authentication (ie. fingerprint and key-card scanners). SCP-5640 is housed at site 57 on floor ███ in containment room ███ which is to be guarded by no less than 2 armed agents of clearance level 2 or higher.
Any unauthorized personnel seen holding SCP-5640 out of its containment is to be apprehended with non-lethal force unless their life has been threatened by the personnel holding SCP-5640 with the priority goal of separating SCP-5640 and placing it back in containment. The apprehended personnel is to then be safely constrained, stripped of all equipment and quarantined in isolation for no less than 24 30 36 hours inside a 4x4x4 room with minimal furniture.
During the period of isolation, the apprehended personnel will be subject to psychological tests every 6 hours by the on-site psychologist via 2-way sound speaker. In the case of a failed psychological test after the initial 36 hours of coming into contact with SCP-5640, the personnel is considered "infected" and will undergo physical tests to further study of SCP-5640's affects on the human psyche.
Description:
SCP-5640 is the grouped item number for a set of 5 solid silver straight edged razors. Each razor is etched in a design reminiscent of 1880 British decor and are weighed at 2.75 ounces. SCP-5640 has a memetic aura encompassing each razor in varied radii that averages between 1.5 and 2.5 meters.
Entering the aura will cause humans over the age of 23, regardless of gender, to become lightheaded and hear voices with no audio cue or stimuli present. Victims have reported that the number of voices range between 6 and 10 distinct voices. Victims exposed to SCP-5640's aura have reported that the voices "call out" to them repeating the same phrase, "We all deserve to die." The victim will be compelled to retrieve SCP-5640. Once SCP-5640 is in the victim's possession, they lose control of their actions and have no memory of any actions taken place when/if they return to a stable mindset.
After taking possession of SCP-5640, the victim's eyelids are forced to stay open, their eyes dilate to roughly twice their normal size and move in a similar motion to REM sleep. The victim is to now be considered a host to a parasitic entity and must be treated as such. The host proceeds to either attack anyone in the immediate area, or hunt for a new victim if none are present. Tests show that the hunted needs to be of human stature (ie. hosts of SCP-5640 pay no attention to available animals in its vicinity), however tests show that the host cannot discern from a live prey and a mannequin. The host shows signs of malice and insidious intent while wielding SCP-5640. Tests also show that once SCP-5640 has found and attached to a host, the aura dissipates and can no longer affect anyone other than the host. Removal of SCP-5640 is as simple as separating it from its host, however, the hostile and dependency effects of SCP-5640 have been shown to last for an extended amount of time after the separation. The time required to revert back to a normal mindset varies from host to host. Longest recorded time has been 32 hours and 14 minutes. Shortest recorded time has been 3 hours and 26 minutes. However, there have been 3 outlier cases where the hosts never reverted back to a normal mindset. The hosts were studied for months as their conditions were recorded in SCP-5640-D2. All 3 hosts died after 7 months of separation. Causes of death are as followed:
- suicide by self induced suffocation without the aid of external materials
- suicide by lacerations from wire found in bed spring
- suicide by blunt force trauma to skull with aid of toilet bowl
