SCP-4046
Classification: Euclid
SCP-4046 was brought to the foundation's attention in the latter half of March 2017. It was flagged in our systems due to the large number of disappearances of the homeless population, situated around a single address. Naturally, following protocol, we dispatched two investigators to establish surveillance on the property (fig.1). The property itself 1267 Applegate Avenue was reportedly derelict and often used by squatters. The initial reports of these investigators reported a high level of scepticism as they had witnessed a number of local children enter and leave the property unharmed.
This scepticism though was laid to rest on the night of {redacted} as they witnessed two vagrants enter the property. Shortly after their entry, there were loud screams heard on the sound monitoring equipment. Special Investigator Samson, ignoring standard operating procedure proceeded to enter the property. In what seems to be a misguided attempt at assistance. The last contact Supervising Investigator Harper had with him was a calm voice over the radio ending with a scram.
The supervising investigator followed standard procedure and awaited a containment support unit to arrive before proceeding with his own investigation. Upon entry of the building, it was noted there were a number of scorch marks on the floor and ceiling. The initial investigation into the property showed no signs of fire damage at the property. Thus it was concluded that SCP-4046 was the cause of these scorch marks. A later study of samples taken from these marks showed Human DNA.
The containment unit reported that the building had no furniture besides the refuse left by the victims and a singular table upon which SCP-4046 resided. The initial description of SCP-4046 is that of a small figurine. Before further steps could be made it was decided to evacuate the premises and await an extraction team as a number of the containment team reported a soothing voice in their heads encouraging them to hold the object (see fig.2).
The team only spent minimal time on the property after this as they set up lighting and a camera feed to monitor SCP-4046, till an appropriately equipped extraction team could arrive.
This should’ve been the end of the initial Securing of the object, but due to an oversight on behalf of Officer Lister, A small child was able to break through the cordon and make their way to SCP-4046. The containment team at this moment made the decision to make haste and extract the child.
The commanding officer on the scene belayed that order as upon the video feed could see the child freely interacting with SCP-4046 without any harm. This confirms the earlier investigative teams observations of children freely entering and leaving unharmed. Finally upon the arrival of the extraction team. The child was evacuated. It is worth noting that the child showed great distress being separated from SCP-4046.
Upon arrival in the foundation's containment facility. SCP-4046 was put through a number of scans and tests as is standard. Upon its base, it had a makers mark of a now-defunct German figurine maker Rosenstein Bros, that closed its doors in 1933 due to the rise of the NAZI party in Germany at that time. It is upon this deeper investigation of SCP-4046 directly that it began to talk openly. It showed great offence at being treated as such with all the invasive scans and revealed it was far older than it’s 1933 marker would suggest.
Later X-rays showed a deeper core, that appeared to have a different density to the porcelain of its exterior. With permission of both the foundation and curiously SCP-4046 itself, we removed the porcelain exterior to reveal a clay idol (see fig.3). That our historians dated to have been manufactured between 4000-3800BCE respectively.
SCP-4046 had a secondary form that shall hereafter be labelled as SCP-4046-B for clarification.
SCP-4046-B appears to be a clay effigy. Upon removal of the porcelain exterior, it’s influence on its surroundings greatly increased. A number of subjects placed into the containment reported a deep burning sensation. They also reported the soothing voice again but his time it appears to have had an increased effect on the subjects.
Upon contact being made by Subject-D-04609-B. A great flash was observed that registered 1x108 Lumine on the light sensors. Upon the fading of the flash of light, a scorched shadow could be seen where Subject-D-04609-B. had been previously stood. The thermometer registers a concentrated heat of several hundred Kelvin.
Upon this event, SCP-4046-B had it’s containment procedures tightened and it is highly recommended all subjects maintain at least a 3-meter radius from the object as it’s controlling abilities have been shown to have a limited range.
It was upon the implementation of a fire containment system that object SCP-4046-B went quiet and no further contact was made with the entity. That is till the event that occurred on {redacted} wherein a number of subjects ignored instructions and approached SCP-4046-B. As with the previous subject, there was a large flash of light and an intense heat that triggered the fire containment system.
This revealed Subject SCP-4046-B’s true form as the super-heated clay suddenly cooled due to the water from the fire containment system. There began to form cracks in the surface of the clay and an alternate fire containment method was sort. Unfortunately, it was already too late and SCP-4046-B was able to cause these cracks to grow finally causing the clay shell to crumble to dust, revealing a tertiary form held beneath this. (see fig.4)
As with the previous forms we had our historical team analyse this. They estimated it’s age to be that of the neolithic era. It was following this reveal that the object hereafter labelled SCP-4046-C had to be moved to a new containment. As the heat that was radiating off of the object was beginning to cause malfunctions in the systems. It was only with a continuous stream of supercooled water that we were able to avoid permanent damage to the containment cell.
It was moved from a containment cell with a metallic build to one with a ceramic build. So as to better handle the heat that was being given off by SCP-4046-C.
The few instruments that were able to survive the cell reported temperatures close to that of most large nuclear reactors. There has been a discussion from the energy department to utilise SCP-4046-C for energy experiments. But these requests at this time are denied due to the lack of understanding and knowledge surrounding SCP-4046-C.
On the date of {Redacted}, it is noted that SCP-4046-C began to communicated openly again. If SCP-4046-C is to be believed then it is one of the first pieces of wood successfully utilized in the making of fire. It gleefully remarked that “It took the souls of those primitive apes and it will keep burning so long as its fuel (souls) does not deplete”. It has reportedly been behind most major city fires, most notably The Great Fire of London, and the Burning of Moscow during the Napoleonic era. Though these claims along with it’s original fire claim can neither be confirmed nor denied.
