Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a solid, metal box of the approximate dimensions 3 x 3 x 3 feet (0.9144 meters). The thickness of the box is to be no less than an inch (2.54 centimeters). The box is to be suspended from the ground at a height of no less than 10 feet (3.048 meters) by a solid metal beam. Regular checks of the box are to be conducted to ensure there are no cracks or leaks. Moisture is strictly forbidden from being on, inside, or around the box. No light should be shining into the box, except for the already equipped red light inside. Cameras should also be placed inside the box, to ensure SCP-XXXX does not attempt to escape.1 Improper or underequipped personnel are under no circumstance, to be anywhere near the box containing SCP-XXXX. The internal temperature of the box is to be at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit (65.5556 degrees Celsius). SCP-XXXX is only to be contained in Site-██ due to its location in a hot desert. There is to be no moisture, sunlight, or living beings (with the exception of licensed personnel) in the containment site. All on-site personnel must be wearing appropriate armor covering their entire body. If any personnel requires water, they will be permitted to leave the site during breaks to receive it.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a plant with the same structure, appearance, and composition as an exceptionally thick vine, with the exception being that its growth can be rapidly accelerated when exposed to a natural energy source. As of its current state, it looks shriveled up and about a foot long, but it has been known to grow to the size of two-story buildings. If SCP-XXXX is split in any way, the split piece will be able to grow independently of the other one. This is what caused the testing accident during Experiment I2. It is currently unknown if there is a limit to how large SCP-XXXX can grow.
SCP-XXXX is parasitic in nature, and upon interaction with any large enough living organism, it will grow and wrap a vine around the organism then "suck" the nutrients out of the organism, killing it (the victim of this will hereby be referred to as SCP-XXXX-A). As found in Experiment I,3 SCP-XXXX can use the energy of a single human to grow up to the size of a building. It seems that when it grows to a certain size, SCP-XXXX will take on a destructive nature and will attack non-living beings as well as living ones.
Behavior: SCP-XXXX's behavior appears semi-sentient and it is very hostile to any regular organisms around it. The vine is able to move by crawling. It does this when it detects any other life form around that it can suck nutrients from, or when it feels it is being harmed. Otherwise, it is stationary. In containment, it is a single short vine, but it can sprout many large vines if it gets the energy to. Even though these vines seem regular in appearance, they have the capacity to crush human bones. It will only, however, do this as a method of incapacitation if the victim is attempting to flee. This was seen in Experiment I. Bullets seem to have no effect on SCP-XXXX, because of the fact that when it detects danger, will harden itself and remain in place. This armor is bulletproof, but still not fireproof. Fire and electricity seem to be the most effective way of shrinking SCP-XXXX down from a large size, as it is a plant and plants are flammable. As seen in the Experiment I incident, however, it takes a substantial amount of heat to contain it. Another good substitute to fire is either a red or black light, which SCP-XXXX will try to avoid. Do not, under any circumstance, shine a regular yellow/white light at SCP-XXXX. This will only help it to grow.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered by a foundation-unrelated archeology team in the Gobi Desert. Its excavation from the ground caused it to grow to an immense size because of its contact with sunlight and other living beings. Local Foundation field agents came in and blowtorched SCP-XXXX, which caused it to shrink. More than half the archeology team was killed in the incident by being turned into SCP-XXXX-A, and the remaining were badly injured and given amnesiacs after being interviewed.
Addendum: It is important to note that the destruction of SCP-XXXX has been deemed possible after the accident with Experiment I, but it requires fire at temperatures of higher than ████ degrees Fahrenheit (███ degrees Celsius). Therefore, the remaining parts of SCP-XXXX are being contained on account of how difficult it is to destroy without accidentally exposing it to sunlight or causing SCP-XXXX-A. Another note for scientists is that SCP-XXXX has reacted to certain diseases such as ████. Strangely, SCP-XXXX does not react to common plant diseases. It only reacts to certain human diseases. Since testing is no longer permitted on SCP-XXXX, its other secrets are completely up to speculation.
Below is a compiled table of all known energy sources and effective subduers (in order from most to least effective) for SCP-XXXX.
| Known Energy Sources | Known Effective Subduers |
|---|---|
| Other Living Organisms | Fire |
| Water | Electricity |
| Sunlight | Acidic Liquids |
| Artificial Yellow/White Light | Black and Red Light |
| Nutrient-Rich Soil | (Certain) Diseases |
