SCP-XXXX: Vintage Record Player

Item #: XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be stored in a standard containment cell. Testing with SCP-XXXX should be approved by one Level 2 personnel.

Description: SCP-XXXX-1 is a wooden hand crank powered vintage record player approximately 0.3 m wide, 0.3 m long, and 1.5 m tall, made of painted birch wood. SCP-XXXX-1 has a hatch connected via hinges on the back that opens to show the needle and record holder. In order to play a record, you must turn the hand crank to power SCP-XXXX-1. Near the bottom of the front of SCP-XXXX-1 is a compartment containing three unnamed vinyl records. SCP-XXXX-1 has a screwed-in hatch along the right side with can be unscrewed to expose its inner functions.

When the hatch is opened, a room approximately three times larger that the outer dimensions imply is inside. In the center of SCP-XXXX-1 is a diamond, approximately 80,000 carats. A large working of metal holds up the diamond, and several mechanisms that are in common record players can be found throughout the room. SCP-XXXX-1 is not able to function without the diamond in place, but can function with another common diamond of the same clarity, however this removes its anomalous effects.

SCP-XXXX-1 is able to play non-anomalous records though often, an audial disturbance can be heard. However, when SCP-XXXX-1 plays any of the records in its compartment, a different anomalous effect will occur depending on the record played.

SCP-XXXX-2 is the record found leftmost in the compartment of SCP-XXXX-1. No matter the amount of time SCP-XXXX-2 plays, it will remain at the same point the needle is placed on. The music played from SCP-XXXX-2 can also change seemingly at random intervals, the only known recorded songs currently are Johny B. Goode, Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, and Bargain Store. All other songs are ones unknown to mankind. The longest recorded time playing SCP-XXXX-2 is approximately three days. Its anomalous effects occur during long time exposure to hearing SCP-XXXX-2's music. The effects include:

Hour One: People listening experience decaying of inorganic matter such as skin and hair.
Hour Two: Behavioral changes are apparent in no observable pattern.
Hour Three: Clothes begin to tear and become flimsier to the touch.
Hour Four: All regular clothes have become a dust of the material they were made of, and psychological issues are enhanced.
Hour Five: Listeners begin to feel minor pain around the body, and incoherently mumble occasionally.
Hour Six: Damage to internal organs and skin are very apparent, listeners are in extreme pain and at the point of insanity.
Hour Seven: All organic matter becomes a large puddle of viscous substance made of the listener's organic matter.
Hour Eight: The viscous substance becomes extremely thin and even bones are transformed into the thin liquid.
Hour Nine: The puddle evaporates and becomes part of the rain system.

SCP-XXXX-3 has a run-time of approximately 2 minutes and 36 seconds. It stays at one unknown tune, described to be a chorus of many voices with no language spoken. SCP-XXXX-3 will cause an unpredictable inter dimensional event in close proximity of SCP-XXXX-1. The current recorded events have all shown to be safe, and are listed below.

Event One: A pencil held by Dr. ████, who often chews on it, mysteriously disappears, but is recovered near San Francisco with the same bite marks.
Event Two: All clocks within a radius of approximately 15 meters begin to rotate backwards at a fast and constant rate until the song ends.
Event Three: All wood within the containment chamber becomes mysteriously coloured the same colour as the wood that makes up SCP-XXXX-1.
Event Four: No absolute events were occurred, however halfway through the song, Dr. ██████, who was listening nearby, had his phone ring. When answered, the caller said a sentence in an unknown language.
Event Five: A large amount of scorpions identified as pandinus imperator (or emperor scorpion) emerged from the bottom of SCP-XXXX-1 and the containment area was evacuated. Video surveillance cut off, and when the room was inspected afterwards, there were several large black puddles in place of the scorpions. The liquid was collected and is undergoing chemical analysis.

SCP-XXXX-4 has a run-time of 1 minute and 16 seconds. It has a significant lack in anomalous qualities during the beginning, though around halfway through the song, anyone listening to SCP-XXXX-4 become relaxed, most aggresive influences are calmed, and a general euphoria is felt. When the song ends, most people who listened feel relaxed for the rest of the day, until they wake up, although their mood is still more positive.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered after reports of a decaying house reached a police station in ██████████, California. Police investigated and found SCP-XXXX-2 playing on SCP-XXXX-1. These reports then reached the SCP foundation and MBT "███████" was sent to investigate. The surrounding area was investigated and the following information was recovered:

The owners of the house owned the record player.
Visitors described the compartment having about 23 regular vinyl record without anomalous properties.
The player did have a diamond for the player, but it wasn't near the clarity it has now.

It is likely the appearance of the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX is due to inter dimensional events, which would explain the reason of the random events of SCP-XXXX-3.

All civilians were given Class-A amnestics and the house went under construction, with the cover-up of a terrorist invasion.

Addendum: Incident Log XXXX-A

On ██/██/20██, containment of SCP-XXXX was shown to be deteriorating slowly. It was revealed that SCP-XXXX-2 was playing inside, although the audio couldn't be heard and the hand crank was not being turned. SCP-XXXX-2 was removed and placed in the compartment without incident. Incident-XXXX-A was likely due to inter dimensional events.
