Proposal 1

The Baxter Proposal

My new life at Site-0

Arrival: I received chemical burns to my eye's leaving them utterly destroyed. As soon as the Site-32 doctor acquitted me, Director Roberts informed me in person that I was being transferred to Site-0, I, of course, knew what SCP-XXXX was from the staff and the site itself, I did think of arguing this but ended up just shrugging it off and going along with it. The last person to see me off was O'Hara. She comforted me before leaving. She had taken me under her wing, saying how I reminded her of a very close friend.

My journey to Site-0 was uneventful, my escort team insisted on playing classical music from A to B, so I got pretty intimate with Beethoven's Für Elise, arriving at the site itself was interesting, my escort team stood me in a specific spot, told me to wait five minutes and then knock, during this time I knew they were driving off.

I did not know where I was but what sounded like sand and small rocks made up most of the ground. As the sound of the ATV vanished, I reached forward with my hand and jumped at the feel of flat, slightly cold metal. I assumed this was a door, I knocked a few times, perhaps a little louder than I was meant to, and a few seconds later, the door opened. My ears were overcome with the familiar sound of the hustle and bustle of a Foundation Site interior. A plume of warm air also washed over me. This was when I was startled by a voice.

Pauline: Hey sweetie, you must be Naomi, am I right.

Naomi: Uh, Yes, I'm the new transfer from Site-32, nice to see…I mean, meet you.

Pauline: Don't worry about formality, were much less uptight than other sites, please call me Pauline, but you can call me Mrs Hop-Good if you prefer, now please come in, I'll fetch you a drink.

Naomi: Thank you, Pauline and two sugars, please, do you get many transfers of this nature, you know, considering…

Pauline: We have had a few, not many, all though from what I've heard on the grapevine that your pretty brilliant Naomi, I'm sure you will fit into our family just perfectly.

After my introduction to Pauline, she gave me a tour, keeping an arm around me to stop me from walking into any walls. I was to be given a seeing-eye dog to help me navigate but was expected to learn the layout of my station. I was taught how to read brail as Site-0 had undergone modifications to supplement blind inclusion properly.

First Assignment: the resident MTF leader accompanied me. Horatio was sat beside me. I was scribing, using my brail keyboard, my skill at touch typing also came in handy. Horatio was certainly an older gentleman. He had come back from a containment mission and was filling me in on a new SCP I was writing the article for. The SCP itself is such that I'm not permitted to discuss without the proper permission. After I had finished the article Horatio brought me to the canteen. He was nice to talk to, although it sounded like he was eating a brick whenever he talked. I think he knew this, though.

Horatio: How have you been? It's to have a new face to look at. It gets a little dull when you're looking at the same schmucks all the time, you a breath of fresh air.

Naomi: That's nice of you to say, Mr Williams, but it wasn't that bad. I had a few friends and some of my colleagues. I now wish to make friends here and try and make my own little family. It helps when I have someone to talk to and someone I can rely on.

Horatio: Well, hell Baxter, you can say that you have a friend in me, and hey, if I'm free and you bored and wan't someone to talk to, give me a ring, and I'll come a-running.

Naomi: Thank you, Horatio.

Meeting the Boss: Quincy is undoubtedly a character.

Quincy: Oh my god! About the time I get to see my new underling, haha, please have a seat.

Naomi: Hmm, thank you, Quincy, you seem to be in a good mood.

Quincy: Good mood, whatcha talking about, jokes, jokes, I'm always in a good mood and having someone new with us makes it all the better, how do you feel working here, do you enjoy it?

Naomi: Yes, I do. The people here are so friendly. It's nice being in a more relaxing environment; site-0 is so well maintained. I have met and talked with Pauline and Horatio; they're really nice too.

Quincy: That's great, I mean it, I work so hard to maintain a balance of hard work and recreation. Positivity leads to better work, I don't enjoy being strict, but sometimes you have to be "that" person.

Naomi: From what I've seen so far, you have done a remarkable job, Quincy. I never thought that I would be working for or in an SCP. It's strange but a good kind of strange.

Quincy: I understand that sentiment. It is bizarre, being an SCP whilst being a part of the Foundation, the novelty has not passed us by, but we try and ignore it, best to not think about that sort of thing.

Naomi: Quincy, if I'm now working here, does that mean I am now an instance of SCP-XXXX?

Quincy: In a way, yes, you can be counted as an instance for as long as you stay inside Site-0, but if you are talking about being fully incorporated into SCP-XXXX, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Bandaids: Zachery was head of medical he was a charmer for sure, I knew he liked me, and it was fun to flirt with someone now and then. Still, I wasn't really seeking anything romantic, and he thankfully understood that, but he did mention that he would keep himself open if I'm not dead within a year, I'll let him treat me.

Zachery: Thank you for joining me, Naomi Baxter, correct?

Naomi: Yes, Mr Lucas.

Naomi: I'm fine, eating healthy, using the on-site exercise facility once in a while. I haven't been pushing myself like at Site 32.

Zachery: Have your eye's been okay? I heard that chemicals caused your blindness. I also see you still have bandages on. Why is that?

Naomi: Apparently, the scarring around my eyes is pretty bad. I want to keep the bandages on such others don't see them, but I would like to change them to less itchy bandages.

Zachery: I do keep a supply on hand, I can apply the bandages, or I can call in one of the nurses if you prefer?

Naomi: No, no, please, it's fine, but I warn you, it's pretty gross.

Zachery: I'll be the judge of that.

Final Thoughts: It's nice here, I don't know where here is, but it's nice, the atmosphere, the people, I don't need to be able to see to know that I'm going to love it here, I've been keeping in touch with O'Hara and a few others, honestly I should thank Director Roberts for transferring me.
