Item #: SCP-4072
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4072 is currently contained between two three (See Addendum-4072-A) D-class personnel rotated in 8 hour shifts within in a soundproof room, monitored by a 24-hour video and audio recording devices. When rotating shifts, accompanied by two armed MTF personnel, the two replacement D-class are to be introduced and infected, with the two relieved D-class being fitted with sound-cancelling earmuffs. In the event of containment breach, all doors will automatically be soundproof sealed and an alert will be sent to the neighboring site of the emergency.
Description: SCP-4072 is a contagious, verbally spoken, three second yodel. As of testing, animals are not affected by SCP-4072, and sound recordings of SCP-4072 has not been shown to exhibit the contagious effect (See Addendum-4072-B). When a human within hearing range of another human affected by SCP-4072 clearly hears the yodel, they will begin to copy the spoken person without control, with the yodel bouncing back and forth between those infected. The sound, volume and length of the yodel is always perfectly consistant and regardless of the age or gender of infected individuals, the yodel will always sound of an adult male at 5█ decibels with a length of three seconds exactly.
The infected will stand at attention to the best of their ability throughout the experience, yet, total eye control is still maintained throughout and those affected who are new to the experience can often be seen with their eyes darting back and forth, often out of confusion or fear. This yodel repeats back and forth until an infected's yodel fails to reach hearing distance of another possible candidate, which often happens when one of those infected dies, typically from dehydration. SCP-4072 will then jump the closest candidate that is within range that hasn't already been affected by SCP-4072. (See Addendum-4072-A). No physical barrier known thus far has been shown to stop this jump, and as such, the best way to contain it is between two three infected D-class.
Testing:
Testing the effects of SCP-4072 on various D-class. During each test, on the other side of the wall of the testing room were two D-Class on standby in case of a SCP-4072 jump.
D-class: D-8503
Anomaly: D-8503 is executed.
Effect: SCP-4072 jumps to standby D-class in adjacent room.
As expected. - Dr. L███
D-class: D-9362
Anomaly: D-9362 has their vocal cords removed prior to testing.
Effect: D-9362 repeats the yodel back.
Interesting! - Dr. L███
D-class: D-2952
Anomaly: D-2952 is an 1 month old infant.
Effect: D-2952 was unable to stand at attention despite trying, but the yodel was repeated.
After the last test, this result doesn't surprise me. - Dr. L███
D-class: D-1732
Anomaly: D-1732 is deaf.
Effect: SCP-4072 jumps to standby D-class in adjacent room.
This is consistent with the fact that sound-cancelling earmuffs also stop the effect. - Dr. L███
D-class: D-9257
Anomaly: D-9257 has his mouth surgically wired shut.
Effect: [DATA REDACTED]
I wish I didn't see that, I don't know why I thought that would be a good idea. - Dr. L███
Addendum-4072-A: A containment breach occured at 3:43pm on ██/██/200█ when D-8415, one of the two D-class containing SCP-4072 had a fatal cardiac arrest, believed unrelated to SCP-4072. Throughout the attack, D-8415 was still standing at attention and returning the yodels to D-5724. Recording footage playback shows the eyes of D-8415 darting back and forth, likely trying to alert nearby researchers of the attack. After a few moments, D-8415's body collapsed, and as D-5724 was returning the yodel, SCP-4072 jumped to a candidate. Yet, despite analysis showing that physically, the two backup D-class were the closest to SCP-4072, it instead jumped to a researcher who was walking with another, closest to the only exit to the facility, which was not within expected jumping range, which resulted in a major outbreak within the site. Security personnel watching from video feed enabled the on-site emergency outbreak alarm, to which the neighboring site responded and re-contained the outbreak.
This may be a sign that SCP-4072 is sentient to some degree. Seems too coincidental that out of all the site staff it could have jumped too, it picked the person closest to the exit. Perhaps it jumped to the right people during testing to hide this fact from us. Further testing considered. - Dr. L███
Addendum-4072-B: Researchers working on site have reported that hearing SCP-4072 through audio has caused the yodel to often get stuck in their heads and appear in dreams. Whether this effect is of SCP-4072, or simply due to the catchiness of the tune is unknown. Further testing approved.
If I see one more of you standing at attention or repeating the yodel as a joke, you will be personally demoted and forced to replace a current affected D-class, do I make myself clear? - Dr. W█████
