SCP - XXXX

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: This organism should be caught in clusters as there is no point in containing only one. As they rely on their prey to be incapacitated and utilize neurotoxins to eliminate their prey, it has been deemed that a sealed borosilicate glass container and water with a salinity of 40 ppt (parts per thousand) is enough to contain the organism. It should be noted that the organism will continue to secrete its toxins, so the water should be filtered and purified frequently.

Description: The organism appears to be a sort of plankton or small deep-sea invertebrate. They are typically 1-2 mm in length. They travel in clusters or swarms of up to 100-200 thousand. They prey on large undersea animals by luring them near using a potent neurotoxin that coaxes prey towards the cluster. The toxin, when in large enough concentrations, causes the rapid breakdown of the brain and central nervous system. The cluster will then swarm the animal and begin to slowly break it down and digest it. The neurotoxin has since been identified as a Type-n chemical compound.

SCP - XXXX do have a hive-like system that revolves around a queen, however, the only distinction that could be found between the "worker" and "queen" SCP - XXXX was that the queen is larger and its body is colored red. The queen's purpose is to navigate the colony to an area with the most lifeforms and currents to carry their neurotoxins.

It is rumored that SCP - XXXX was the cause for the mysterious disappearance of the crew of the Mary Celeste, as strange currents brought the cluster up to the side of the ship where they clung to the algae on the side of the boat. The secreted neurotoxins drifted up to the crew where it drove them insane, to the point where they all lept off the boat and into the water to discover its source.

SCP - XXXX was discovered in late ████ and has continued to be researched ever since due to its strangely potent neurotoxin, unfortunately, as there is no way to track them, incidents similar to the Mary Celeste could occur again, however, marine biologists and meteorologists have determined that its occurrence is far too rare to warrant any attempt to contain what is possibly a vast population.

Addendum: Harmful chemicals that have not yet been named and originate from classified organisms are classified into 5 categories:

Class-1: These chemicals are mildly dangerous to humans and animals, they are safe to be handled with latex gloves and do not emit any noxious fumes.

Class-2: These chemicals must be handled with glass or metal instruments and either must not touch the skin and or not consumed or enter the body in any form.

Class-3: These chemicals must be neutralized in another solution when in large quantities, full hazmat gear must be worn when handling refined or pure Class-3 chemicals. Typically serve no practical use. These chemicals are highly dangerous and exposure to these chemicals without proper gear is often lethal.

Class-4: These chemicals must always be diluted, no matter what quantity it is in, these chemicals either emit extremely lethal fumes or have corrosive abilities that surpass current containment technologies. SCP personnel are never to interact with these chemicals without experienced medical and scientific staff assisting.

Class-5: These chemicals must never contact air or water, these chemicals are unique in that their explosive potential is extraordinarily high. These volatile compounds must always be carried via a temperature and shock controlled vehicle in a vacuum container that is capable of handling between 3-8 Petajoules of energy.
