SCP-XXXX-1

SCP-XXXX-1, upon initial recovery.

SCP-XXXX-1

SCP-XXXX-1, upon initial recovery.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must not be interrupted under any circumstances. SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained at its place of discovery in Provisional Site-XXXX. A full staff of nuclear physicists, electrical engineers, and technicians must be maintained at Provisional Site-XXXX at all times. The nuclear reactor which provides power to SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-3, and Provisional Site-XXXX must be active and functional at all times; see Incident Report 11-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX-2 must maintain function at all times. A research group led by Dr. Sarah Archer is to study the make-up and behavior of SCP-XXXX-2 in order to determine its functional lifetime. The capacity to make pre-emptive repairs to SCP-XXXX-2 as necessary is considered to be of the highest priority. The Primary Magnetic Containment Room is to be locked, and may only be entered as directed by Level 4 personnel.

SCP-XXXX-3 is to be monitored regularly to ensure continued function.

Foundation scientists embedded in the geophysics academic community are to manipulate research and provide natural explanations for the higher-than-average gravity anomaly in the region of Provisional Site-XXXX. The discovery of any similar gravity anomalies on Earth must be reported to the appropriate Level 4 personnel immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX denotes the unstable physical phenomenon occurring in the Primary Magnetic Containment Room in Provisional Site-XXXX. The Foundation was alerted to the location of this phenomenon, a research facility adjoining a well-hidden nuclear reactor deep underground in ███████ █████, by an anonymous tip in 20██. It was apparently staffed and maintained by a small scientific organization, labelled GoI-XXXX, with possible extraterrestrial ties and unknown motives. When the facility was secured and designated as Provisional Site-XXXX, no personnel were found and almost no documentation was recovered.

SCP-XXXX-1 is an extrasolar planet with a mass of 2.9 Earth masses and a nominal radius of 1.4 Earth radii. SCP-XXXX-1 has an atmosphere primarily composed of nitrogen, argon, and oxygen at a pressure of 1.9 atm at sea level. Salinated oceans cover approximately 23% of the surface. Due to external environmental conditions, SCP-XXXX-1 has a rotational period of 41 hours and a nearly uniform surface temperature of 19 degrees Celsius. High-resolution imaging suggests that it is uninhabited by macroscopic life, but it is expected that it has been contaminated by terrestrial microbes. SCP-XXXX-1 is currently shrunken to approximately 0.00003% of its nominal volume, to a mean diameter of 5.5 meters.

SCP-XXXX-2 is an array of six particle accelerators with a radius of 200 meters that encircles the Primary Magnetic Containment Chamber. Its function and make-up cannot be explained by conventional or esoteric understandings of physics at this time; measurements suggest that SCP-XXXX-2 is constructed in part from room-temperature superconductors and [DATA EXPUNGED], and are capable of generating collision energies far beyond what is expected. SCP-XXXX-2 appears to cause generate the effect, denoted SCP-XXXX, which keeps SCP-XXXX-1 shrunken.

The current understanding is that SCP-XXXX generates localized "folds" in space1 within the Primary Magnetic Containment Room. Each fold conceals space and matter within a minor dimension, reducing the effective volume of SCP-XXXX-1 by approximately 95%. The space which contains SCP-XXXX-1 and its atmosphere is currently folded in this way into five minor dimensions.

The continuation of SCP-XXXX demands that SCP-XXXX-2 remain functional indefinitely, which requires an uninterrupted energy input of 5400 MW. Should these energy needs fail to be met, or should the magnetic containment field generated by an array of superconducting magnets (denoted SCP-XXXX-3) fail to hold SCP-XXXX-1 in place, it will lose containment, resulting in an ΠK-Class Planetary Disruption event.

Incident Report 11-XXXX: During a standard maintenance procedure in Provisional Site-XXXX, a minor power failure caused containment of SCP-XXXX to be lost for a total of 0.4 seconds. During this time, one of the six minor dimensions in the SCP-XXXX manifold collapsed, causing SCP-XXXX-1 to grow from its original size of 27 centimeters to its current size of 5.5 meters.

Most of the civilian gravitational wave observatories which were active at this time were able to measure the gravitational disruption of this event, which was many orders of magnitude higher than any explainable phenomena would produce. Standard Foundation scientific disruption methods prevented this measurement from being noticed or published. According to these measurements, the manifold collapse happened in a span of time on the order of Planck seconds.

Projections indicate that if a similar event occurs, SCP-XXXX-1 will grow to a size of 110 meters, larger than the Primary Magnetic Containment Room itself. In this event, total loss of containment is expected.

In response to this event, multiple redundant systems to each component of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be developed, to reach a minimum five fault tolerance. Anomalous sources of power are currently being considered (See Proposal XXXX/4388, Proposal XXXX/399, and Proposal XXXX/2052).

This is what we're working to prevent, people. I've requested additional funding and personnel, but remember that it is up to each of us, every day, to bring the best version of ourselves to work. Decontainment is not an option.

O5 Council,

In light of the fact that containment of SCP-XXXX appears to be reaching a sustainable point, in coordination with Dr. Archer's research group, I would like to propose a program of further study into SCP-XXXX-1.

For the past couple of years, SCP-XXXX has been spoken of as merely another of the plethora of doomsday devices that the Foundation secures. However, I assert that it is in fact one of our most promising assets. Any number of XK-class scenarios threaten the Earth each day, and it may be that the conditions amenable to terrestrial life are exceedingly rare in our universe, anomalies aside.

You will observe that the latter missions of the Nova program will specifically explore the practicality of terraforming SCP-XXXX-1 and recreating SCP-XXXX-2 in a portable form. For the long-term survivability of the human species, I believe that it is in the best interests of the Foundation to invest in a backup Earth, God forbidding one should ever become necessary.

Please see the attached proposal form for a timeline of deliverables and projected cost for each stage of the program.

Yours,

Thad Vetlesson
Site Director
Provisional Site-XXXX
