Pteridium Lumens
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All the instances of SCP-XXXX must be contained as far as possible, and a specific unit of trained agents [MTF Omega-16 (Dawnstars)] must be always looking for other instances using their light lo locate them. All the ferns must be kept in a sealed greenhouse made of darkened glass, and a led diod lamp must be illuminating every instance, following a precise time schedule regulated from the Sun.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous species of fern. SCP-XXXX works in a totally different way from normal plants. During the day, it absorbs light, creating a shade around it, in a spherical form. During the night, it emits light of the same type of the one it absorbed. During this time, if humans are exposed to the light emitted from it, the quantity of D-vitamine produced from the organism will be higher.
SCP-XXXX regulates itself using its coordinates, so the sun and the light emitting/absorbing cycle are perfectly syncronized. If the plant isn't exposed to a source of light during the absorbing part of the cycle, it will spread its roots in a circular way, trying to attach them to things that are exposed to light. If it succedes, the thing it attached to starts to act like if it was part of the plant, having the same light emitting/absorbing cycle (SCP-XXXX-2). If it doesn't succedes, the instance will wither.
If the entity the plant attached to is sentient, the plant will start to grow its roots around the limbs of the subject, connecting to the muscles and acting like an alternative nervous system, manipulating the subject to try to move closer to the Equator, and it won't need any food or water. The more light it recieves, the longer and stronger will the roots grow. When the roots reach the brain, the host will die and the fern estabilishes there, creating a bush of SCP-XXXX.
When a leaf of SCP-XXXX is took away from the plant, it will lose its spreading abilities and will work contrarywise, until it dies.
The leaves of the plants are edible, and they have various effects on the subject, for more detailed informations , see ADDENDUM XXXX

**Test A - █ █ / █ █ / █ █ █ █ **
Subject: D-85755
Procedure: 1 leaf of SCP-XXXX, taken at 12:00 am
Results: the subjects accuses an internal heat. The blood analysis has shown double quantities as usual of D-vitamine
Test B - █ █ / █ █ / █ █ █ █
Subject: D-35346
Procedure: 1 leaf of SCP-XXXX, taken at 12:00 pm
Results: the subject accuses an internal cold, begins to shake, and feels sleepy. The blood analysis have shown almost no D-vitamine.
Subject: D-63791
Procedure: 1 alive sprout of SCP-XXXX
Results: The plant spreaded as usual, starting from the stomach of D-63791, causing him to try to break out of the cell. Subject terminated and cremated.
Test D - █ █ / █ █ / █ █ █ █
Subject: D-79647
Procedure: 1 root of SCP-XXXX
Results: No anomalous effect shown
Test E - █ █ / █ █ / █ █ █ █
Subject: D-63647
Procedure: 5 cc of extract extracted from the leaf during the day.
Results: The subject feels an inside burning, and tries to lay down. Temperature of the subject 43°C. He starts to sweat and his temperature grows. After 10 minutes, a strong bioluminescence starts being emitted from the subject. After one hour the subject faints and dies. Subject temperature 50°C. The corpse starts emitting smoke. Subject temperature 80°C. After two hours the subject catches fire and keeps burning for one day. Fire temperature 6500°C.
Test F - █ █ / █ █ / █ █ █ █
Subject: D-34980
Procedure: 5 cc of extract extracted from the leaf during the night.
Results: The subject start feeling cold and starts shaking. He ask for a blanket. Request denied. The subject feels very sleepy and falls asleep. Temperature of the subject 30°C. During the sleep, the REM activity is inexistent. The subject starts losing heat and starts exaling steam. Subject temperature 20°C. The subject dies. Temperature of the subject 10°C. The corpse starts losing heat fastly and reaches 5°K in three hours. After a week, the corpse melts and becomes powder.
