Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX resides in Hungary, more precisely in the least populated areas. SCP-XXXX does not regularly leave its residence, but when it does, it can go anywhere in the world. Due to this, scientists have implanted tracking devices in order to control its movement. If SCP-XXXX is agitated, everyone in the nearby areas must seek refuge immediately, either in dense foliage or underground, and SCP-XXXX must be tranquilized as soon as possible. When tranquilizing SCP-XXXX, the dorsal of the neck and the chest are the most preferred areas to shoot at. SCP-XXXX does not generally pose a major threat to nearby citizens, but it has been documented to ingest citizens who venture out too deep in its resting areas. SCP-XXXX should be sustained with a large bodied animal, such as the likes of cows, horses, bulls and even rhinoceros, at least twice a week.

Description:

General Description: SCP-XXXX resembles, in appearance and behavior, Hatzegopteryx thambema, a very large pterosaur from the Maastrichtian of the Cretaceous period (72.1 ± 0,2 Ma - 66.0 Ma). It stands at ~8 metres tall, and is estimated to weigh ~851 kilograms. It is capable of flight, with a wingspan of ~22 metres, and has been recorded to fly at 207 km/h. It has been suggested that SCP-XXXX may be able to fly for 24,000 kilometres without resting. This has been confirmed to be an adaptation for finding food. SCP-XXXX has been documented to gallop at 51 km/h for 150 seconds. SCP-XXXX is regularly referred to as "Mark".

Morphology: SCP-XXXX's total height is 8.241 m. Its total wingspan is 21.963 m. It displays a long head with a dark coloured beak covered in a sheeth of keratin, with a total length of 4.248 m. SCP-XXXX possesses irregular bone growth along the dorsal of the beak, also covered in keratin. On the anterior end of the lower beak, SCP-XXXX displays regular bone growth covered in keratin. These are pseudoteeth. SCP-XXXX's body is covered in dark coloured skin and feathers, along with bright yellow eyes in the posterior end of the head. Osteoderm growth is present along most of the body of SCP-XXXX, minus the wing membranes. SCP-XXXX's call is described as a "distorted trombone" that is documented to travel for large distances.

General Behaviour: SCP-XXXX is seen most of the time as a calm animal: it will not mind humans in its territory unless hungry, disturbed or agitated. SCP-XXXX dislikes loud noises, avoiding crowded places such as cities. Though, sudden outbreaks are expected to occur with mild frequency. If threatened, SCP-XXXX will display its wings to make itself appear larger and intimidate its opponent. When hunting, SCP-XXXX will aim for the head of its prey if said prey is big enough, and will deliver a potent downward "pecking" motion. This way of attacking has been documented to generate impact forces of approximately 3.5 metric tonnes/cm². It is not recommended to dwell nearby this animal.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX has been confirmed to be 70 million years old, though the reason why is unclear and under investigation. With all evidence, it is safe to assume that this animal is an individual of Hatzegopteryx thambema that survived the End-Cretaceous extinction event. During the spring months, SCP-XXXX will perform a distinct call, which scientists believe it is a mating call. There is evidence to suggest that there may be multiple individuals like SCP-XXXX, though this is not proven. Recovered audio files from the Tamadaba Accident indicate that SCP-XXXX's mating call acts like a question, and the female is supposed to respond to SCP-XXXX's question. The recovered audio files also indicate that there is a response to SCP-XXXX's question.

First reports of SCP-XXXX come from eastern African tribes, where locals describe a "large bird eating their people and their cattle". Though, SCP-XXXX has never been documented to inhabit thr African continent. Scientists suggest that, due to global warming, Africa got too hot for SCP-XXXX to inhabit, which it then moved north.
