DO NOT EAT THE HARD DRIVE.

Item #: SCP-4406

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4406 is to be kept in a 2 m x 2 m x 2 m vault at Site-15. Surveillance cameras are to record the vault 24/7, no exceptions. A guard of Security Clearance 2 or higher is to enter the vault twice per day, at 6:00 AM and at 9:00 PM to make sure SCP-4406 is still within containment. A GPS-chip has been installed on SCP-4406, which will signal its location to the on-site computer terminal every 10 seconds. The tracker is to be reattached on SCP-4406 if it ever breaks off.

Description: SCP-4406 is a high-end computer hard drive of the "Seagate BarraCuda Pro HDD" model, with 10 terabytes of memory. No information can be inserted into the hard drive or removed from it. If connected to a computer, SCP-4406 will display a single 50-gigabyte file labeled "Portal 3", with a slightly modified logo of the video game "Portal 2" by the game company "Valve".

If the file is opened, the computer will immediately shut down and can no longer be booted up in the next two days. Any person who launches the file will feel an irresistible urge to consume the hard drive. The process of eating usually takes between 10-30 minutes. After the whole hard drive has been consumed, the one who ate it will die of internal bleeding within ten minutes. The hard drive will reappear fully functional in a range of 10 meters of the subject around 2 minutes after death. There seems to be no way of recovering anyone who eats it.

If the person who tries to eat SCP-4406 is taken away from the object, said person will fall into a state of panic, that will not stop until given the object. Anyone whose contact has been cut with SCP-4406 for more than 1 hour will start acting extremely agitated and will try to attack anyone within its range. The only way to calm the subject down is to give it SCP-4406.

Recovery: SCP-4406 was discovered in an apartment building in █████, California. The object was in possession of the well-known online-streamer "████████", who claimed they got the item from an old friend during his final stream. He unveiled SCP-4406 in his last stream on 3:35 PM, 26/3/20██.

NOW PLAYING VIDEO LOG #4406-ALPHA

- 3:30 PM: "Alright, guys, welcome to the stream. I'll just wait for more people to join, don't want anyone missing out on this!"
- Approximately 4 minutes have passed and over 8,000 people have joined.
- 3:35 PM: "Right, I'd say that's a good amount of people. I've been waiting for this for so long! Guys… Portal 3 is real and I have an actual f██████ copy of it!
- ████████ proceeds to show the file to the viewers.
- 3:36 PM "So, an old friend of mine knew I really loved the Portal series and I'm pretty sure that he worked at Valve. He gave me this hard drive with only this file on it. I can't install a recording software for some reason, so I'm just recording with my phone instead. Anyways, I think it was a beta version or something, so there's that. Now, let's open this!
- The file was opened and the computer turned off. The phone kept recording ████████ standing there silently for approximately 5 seconds. He then proceeded to place the phone on his desk. The phone fell over to a position, which showed ████████'s top half just enough to show him slowly beginning to eat SCP-4406.
- 20 minutes has passed and over 50,000 people were watching this happen live. He then finished the last piece of the hard drive and fell on the ground.
- The police were apparently called, and the stream was cut off after 15 seconds after the police entered the apartment.

NOW PLAYING AUDIO LOG #4066-1

Dr. ███████: You do know you just made the biggest mistake of your life, right?
Leon:
Dr. ███████: … Right. So, tell me: Why were you about to steal SCP-4406?
Leon: Look, I watched ████████'s stream, I saw what game that was and I'll do anything to play it. And I mean ANYTHING.
Dr. ███████: That seems like a bit of a stretch. You could just wait for it to come out. This is a literal crime, and you WON'T get off easy. There is no way you could be this stubborn.
Leon: I don't care! I know that game is in there, why else would it be so important for you? I don't know why or how you got that drive after ████████ ATE the damn thing, but I will get that drive, one way or another.
Dr. ███████: That doesn't concern you. Anyways, you won't be playing that game.
Leon: I'll give you anything you want, just give me the hard drive!
Dr. ███████: We won't give you anything, this conversation is over.
Leon proceeds to run towards the door. He manages to open it and then starts running towards the door SCP-4406 is in. The guards opened fire on Leon and is thus pronounced dead.

Addendum 4406-C: This hard drive seems to be extremely desired among the "Portal" community; two security breaches have happened in total (As of 19/5/20██). Neither of the people who attempted obtaining SCP-4406 managed to consume it. Further improvements to containment are being made, such as an ID scanner and potential relocation to Site-██.
It is also considered, that SCP-4406 would be changed from Safe to Euclid Class, due to the fact that is is a very wanted item and people are trying to enter the facility more often than usual because of the contents of the object. It is also unknown if the item forces individuals to break into the facility and consume it.
