SCP-4251-1 posing for a picture. The subject was photographed willingly and insisted on several more photographs.
Item #: SCP-4251
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4251-1 is to be kept in a standard human containment cell, and allowed to visit the rest of the facility No television sets are allowed in SCP-4251-1's cell, to prevent further attempts to imitate action sequences it sees, and all other requests must be approved by Site Administrators. SCP-4251-1 may visit the rest of the facility under the supervision of no less than two Security Officers.
Members of the janitorial staff are to listen to its stories while performing their duties, then inform SCP-4251-1 that they must be on their way once said duties are completed.
Subject refuses to respond to any name other than "Wayland" or "The Wayland" and thus this name must be used for any direct interaction with the SCP in order to maintain cooperation.
Description: SCP-4251-1 is a living suit of armor that requires a living host (SCP-4251-2) to fully function. The Subject changes size and shape to fit the host but consistently weighs approximately 50 kilograms. Once attached to a host, it refuses to leave it; however, it will provide accommodations to ensure SCP-4251-2 is able to function normally, such as opening certain areas to allow eating, urinating, excreting, and receiving medical attention. SCP-4251-1 is impervious to damage, and thus samples could not be taken.
SCP-4251-1 allowed itself to be examined, during which it proudly directed researchers to the back of the helmet of SCP-4251-1, where the words "huius bring armis vitae" were seen etched in gold.1 There was also an etching of a scarab within an equilateral triangle pointed upward.2 This image was just below the aforementioned writing. The etchings appeared to have been added to the armor recently, as there was little wear on them, unlike many of the other embellishments, leading some of our researchers to believe that the suit was given sentience and imperviousness within the past fifty years, rather than when the armor was actually created, or any of the times the armor claims it was created or otherwise became animate. SCP-4251-1 speaks in a sing-song voice and sounds as if speaking into a metal can.
SCP-4251-1 has given multiple backstories to various staff members, including:
- Forged by dwarves
- Blessed by The Lady of the Lake
- Forged by dwarves and then blessed by The Lady of the Lake
- Made by a humble blacksmith in the countryside, and then brought to life when the blacksmith was killed by a six-fingered man in order to avenge his creator
- Created from the same metal as Excalibur (or Caliburn)
- Formed from the laughter of small children
- Forged by God and then carried gracefully down from Heaven by angels
- Crashed violently into Earth from The Heavens
- Ran away from Hell after realizing The Devil was evil
- Grew from a magical tree
- Was found within a tree after it was cut down
- Pulled out of a rock by Geoffroi De Charney
- Was born from a fair maiden, who was shocked to see her son was a suit of armor
- Born from a rock impregnated by the Daoist Heaven
- Crafted in an ancient temple
- Created by the Good Fairy Glinda of Oz
- Written into existence by a powerful author
- [REDACTED]
and finally,
- Created itself within the center of a mountain, then using a sword it also created, split the mountain in two, freeing itself
According to historian personnel Dorothy ████████████, the armor itself most closely resembles 1800's Italian Ceremonial Armor, despite SCP-4251-1's claims that it was first worn by Geoffroi De Charney, who died in 1365, long before the armor was actually made. Mentioning this offended SCP-4251-1 greatly, causing it to display symptoms of clinical depression, and it refused to cooperate with researchers for ██ days, until it was convinced to speak to Dr. Hutchinson, at which point it seemed to have forgotten the incident altogether, and no longer displayed the aforementioned symptoms. Symptoms of clinical depression can sometimes return if the subject feels ignored or particularly insulted, which can also result in violent outbursts.
Discovery: After reports of metallic noises in a home in ██████ France, local police had found its elderly resident deceased of natural causes and wearing an embellished suit of armor. The armor removed itself from the deceased man and began to try and latch itself onto the police officer, who escaped. It was sometime after that the Foundation was contacted and field personnel was sent in, and the local police and neighbors were administered Class A Amnesiacs.
The Subject attempted to latch onto several of them but was captured using a decoy mannequin in a large metal crate. It was unable to control the mannequin, revealing that it needed a living host.
After transports, SCP-4251-1 was put into an isolated chamber. Researchers attempted to collect samples of the material SCP-4251-1 was constructed of, but found the armor to be impervious to damage.
After a few days of lack of activity from the subject, D-6531 was brought into the containment cell and instructed to allow the armor to latch onto him so that researchers could study the effects of The Subject on a host. The Subject proceeded to latch itself onto D-6531, at which point the armor could be heard vocalizing pleasure in finding "a suitable comrade" and then attempting to challenge security to battle, at which point a few guards were sent in to restrain it. After approximately eight minutes, the suit conceded a draw, claiming it did so to prevent its host from being further damaged, insisting it could still have defeated Security Personnel.3
When questioned, D-6531 initially reported no ill side effects other than the armor being fairly warm and mentioned that the armor would adjust itself to allow him to carry out biological needs. It also notably changed size and shape to better fit D-6531. However, it was later found that D-6531 could not convince SCP-4251-1 to remove itself from him, all attempts at removal were met with failure, and it was revealed at this point that D-6531 was considered a permanent host, and thus D-6531 was reclassified as SCP-4251-2.
Interviewer: Dr. Hutchinson
Interviewee: SCP-4251-1SCP-4251-2 seemed relatively calm during the interview, despite his situation. He was instructed to let SCP-4251-1 speak and remain silent unless addressed directly.
Dr. Hutchinson: Good afternoon, could you please tell me your name?
SCP-4251-1: But of course, my good sir! I am Wayland, the armor of champions and heroes! The eyelash stuck in the eye of evildoers! Forged by dwarves and—
Dr. Hutchinson: Last time you said a humble blacksmith in the country
SCP-4251-1: LET ME FINISH! (there is a long pause before subject continues to speak while shifting into a standing pose, one leg on the table, the other on the chair, and pointing its right arm skyward) Forged by dwarves and blessed by The Lady of The Lake, worn by famous knights such as Geoffroi De Charny, Lancelot, Galahad, Sir Toby Belch, The Yellow Knight of Oz, Don Quixote, and Sir Monty Python.
Dr. Hutchinson: Then why did you latch yourself onto a lowly D-class personnel?
SCP-4251-1: (There is a short pause before subject resumes) Oh? Do you mean my new comrade? Well, actually, this was originally going to be temporary until I found a noble knight. However, after bonding to him, I've grown quite attached to him (SCP-4251-1 can be heard making a sound resembling a chortle) he's much braver than I initially thought. Also, many of the fellows in this place tend to go missing or are otherwise killed like dogs by the monstrous prisoners of this facility you run. I could not possibly in good conscience leave him to die alone. Besides, he has great potential. He's not as much a witless ruffian as I initially believed. He may make a fine knight, yet, and then we both shall be remembered in the annals of history! Sung about in ballads! Isn't that right, brother in arms?
(Dr. Hutchinson nods to SCP-4251-2, granting him permission to speak)SCP-4251-2: Sure. Sounds fun.
SCP-4251-1: My friend, you could use a little more enthusiasm.
Note: It is unknown how SCP-4251-1 became aware of what usually happens to D-class personnel, and SCP-4251-2 denies mentioning anything to SCP-4251-1 on the subject.
Interviewer: Dr. Hutchinson
Interviewee: SCP-4251-1Dr. Hutchinson: Good afternoon, SCP—
SCP-4251-1: Wayland. I will not answer to anything other than Wayland.
Dr. Hutchinson: I'm afraid we cannot make exceptions. Everyone here is referred to by their designation. Now, I would like to ask you regarding the elderly resident you were found on.
SCP-4251-1 turned its head and remained quiet and motionless for a full hour. All attempts to further engage SCP-4251-1 were met with failure until Dr. Hutchinson chose to address SCP-4251-1 by its preferred nameDr. Hutchinson: Very well, Wayland. Good afternoon.
SCP-4251-1: That's better. Now, to what do I owe the pleasure?
Dr. Hutchinson: Simply more questions.
SCP-4251-1: Of course! I greatly enjoy answering questions about myself. Go ahead.
Dr. Hutchinson: The man we found you on, the elderly one. How did you come across him?
SCP-4251-1: Ah, poor Mathis! I knew him well! His father, ██████████, had purchased me at an auction in Venice, Italy, and Mathis had liberated me while at the tender age of twelve years old. I helped him to escape from that prison he once called home. He, unfortunately, could not utilize me to become a knight due to a crippled leg, but nevertheless, I taught him to defend himself, and thus I saw fit to call him a squire, even if our exploits were limited to going to renaissance faires and educating schoolchildren and scouts of the tales of the many knights who had once worn me. Mathis and I shared a kindred spirit, even if his martial skills were lacking. He dearly wished to do good in the world, in defiance of his father, who was a corrupt [REDACTED] who failed in his duties! Mathis lived nobly and was able to make a better life for himself. (SCP-4251-1 gazes down and shifts uncomfortably, his tone of voice changes to sound more melancholy) I trust he received a proper burial hosted by his friends?
Dr. Hutchinson: The body was claimed by his children to be buried at ████████ Church.
SCP-4251-1: Children? That's impossible.
Dr. Hutchinson: What do you mean?
SCP-4251-1: Mathis never married
Dr. Hutchinson: You must be mistaken. There was a woman with red hair and a boy with blonde hair who requested the body for fune-
SCP-4251-1: I am most certainly not mistaken. Most women were…intimidated by my presence on Mathis's body. Do you mean to tell me you handed of Mathis's body to the first pair of people who claimed to be related to him?
Dr. Hutchinson: They had birth certificates to prove-
SCP-4251-1: Wait, you mentioned one of them was blonde. Was a name mentioned?Dr. Hutchinson: Yes, his name was Benedict ████████████
(SCP-4251-1 began to show signs of distress at this point)
SCP-4251-1: They were after me.Dr. Hutchinson: What?
SCP-4251-1: Benedict. That jealous fiend has been trying to steal me for years.
Dr. Hutchinson: Wayland, why would Benedict try to steal you?
SCP-4251-1: I don't know. Who wouldn't try to steal a set of enchanted, magical, talking armor? Just look at the lengths your organization went through to capture me! Benedict must have assumed I would still be attached to Mathis, and wanted the body to take…me…oh no.
(It was at this point SCP-4251-1 became unresponsive for about one minute, trembling, rocking back and forth, and muttering about how Mathis's body was likely desecrated. He only stopped after becoming aware that SCP-4251-2 was growing distressed and struggling to regain control)
SCP-4251-1: Sir Leofrick4, I…am so sorry. I am acting so undignified.
Dr. Hutchinson: Wayland, I will look into this matter.
SCP-4251-1: Thank you, I…I would like to be alone with my comrade, now. I think we need some space.
(Dr. Hutchinson concluded the interview. The signs of distress decreased, and instead, SCP-4251-1 sat in silence for approximately 10 minutes, during which the cloth over its face began to grow damp with what was later identified as a saline solution. The solution was stated by SCP-4251-2 to have come directly from SCP-4251-1.)
December 2, 20██: I investigated SCP-4251-1's claims, and sure enough, there are no records that Mathis ███████ ever had children. ████████ Church's records also show Mathis was not buried there as previously believed. Further attempts to discuss Mathis or Benedict leads to SCP-4251-1 either attempting to change the subject or refusing to continue speaking to me. It is in my professional opinion that it was an oversight on the Recovery Team's part to not recover the body of Mathis along with the armor. It is, for this reason, why I am putting in a request to attempt to locate and recover the body to study. - Dr. Hutchinson
Request Denied. Although we could have learned greatly from the body of Mathis, it is too late. If the body survived at all, the body was taken over a month ago, and thus it is unlikely enough of it remains to study. - O5-██
Addendum 4251.1 01/05/2019 Incident
Interviewer: Dr. Hutchinson
Interviewees: SCP-4251-1 and SCP-4251-1Dr. Hutchinson: Good afternoon, Wayland.
SCP-4251-1: Good afternoon, friend! How are you, today?
Dr. Hutchinson: I'm fine, today. I would like to ask about some of your previous…comrades, prior to Mathis.
SCP-4251-1: Why, certainly! I would be glad to-
SCP-4251-2: He's lying.
Dr. Hutchinson: What do you mean he's lying?
SCP-4251-2: He don't remember, doc. Whimpered about it last night. He don't remember nothin'. That's why he keeps changing his story, he can't even keep track of it, himself.
SCP-4251-1: I-
Dr. Hutchinson: Is this true?
SCP-4251-1: Of course not! That's ridiculous! I know exactly where I came from!
SCP-4251-2: You have, like, twenty different ideas of where you came from, and half of them are rip-offs of books you've read!
