Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be secured within a 5x5 meter room constructed of a blend polyurethane, rubber, and other such non-conductive materials. Said room must be lined with sound damping material, in order to prevent a possible minor breach. The object itself should be kept in a case with damping materials, suspended in an electrophobic polymer.
Personnel level 3 and above are permitted access to said room. Otherwise, there must be two security personnel stationed at the entrance who shall be cycled at least every two days, and must not return to to the location of containment until six days have passed, or briefed medical staff have deemed them fit to return. Those admitted to the location of containment must be stripped of any and all devices or objects that can transmit or conduct noise, heat beyond a temperature of [REDACTED] Kelvin, or electricity. For their own safety, they must also wear hearing protection in the event of an accidental triggering of the object.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a hollow metallic object with the appearance of an animal horn. Analysis by on-site paleontological staff have found it to be most reminiscent of a ram's horn measuring approximately .9 meters in length, made of an unknown metallic substance. SCP-XXXX came to the foundation's awareness after the object was unearthed in a non-foundation dig-site located at 35.46* N, 31.86* W alongside multiple banners and robes dated to be from [REDACTED]. Reports of mass unexplained cases of deafness among excavators was investigated by local agents, who quickly determined SCP-XXXX to be the source of the events.
SCP-XXXX has the anomalous property of amplifying any and all vibrations within a 40 meter radius, with the amplification increasing based on the distance from the source. This property is especially pronounced when a source of vibration is placed near the small opening at the 'tip' of the horn. See [Test Log 2] for further information. There also appears to be a locus of the amplified vibrations towards the wider end of the horn, with the possibility of incredibly destructive results like that which is found in [Test Log 2].
Prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX has been found to result in symptoms similar to that of tinnitus, but with a timbre have been described by staff and test subjects as "befitting of a brass instrument". After a period of more than 3 hours direct exposure, or 48 hours of protected exposure, this tinnitus is capable of deafening a person. Testing has not yet found a way to nullify this effect entirely, but it has been found that those not deafened return to normal hearing after two weeks.
Test Notes/ Interview Logs:
Researchers [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] decided to test the item's response to varying frequency. The two brought a variable frequency generator into the object's chamber, setting it a distance of .5 meters away from SCP-XXXX.
Result: Upon turning on the generator, the chamber began to shake at a frequency similar to that produced by the generator, up until the point the device ceased to function.
Determination of failure: wires melted, internal combustion.
Additional notes: Temperature was recorded to have shot up by 5 degrees Kelvin during the test duration.
Recommendation: No use of electronic testing equipment until a proper method of damping can be found.
Object was taken to an above-ground open air testing site to determine maximum range of amplification. D class personnel was sourced for the test due to having a background in wind instruments. D-167617 was instructed to blow through SCP-XXXX's small end, while aiming at instruments located 500 meters away.
Result: A visible shockwave was produced from the wide end of the horn, and the instrumentation at the end of the testing site was rendered completely destroyed.
Analysis has shown that the instrumentation and mountings were vibrated apart, resulting in melting and cracking not befitting of such a shockwave. This would have required an apparent force or temperature of [REDACTED].
Recommendation: Further testing of intensity of initial vibration with a target of solid material may further the understanding of the rate of increase. Perform any further testing under carefully controlled circumstances, improper handling may result in a site breach.
Dr. [REDACTED]: D-167617, we appreciate you not attempting to take advantage of the situation you were in and causing a site breach. We have a few questions before we can send you back to your accommodations.
[D-167617 appears to be in a state of shock.]
Dr. [REDACTED]: It appears our friend here is unresponsive. We should probably get them some medical attention. Perhaps that's why they decided not to attempt a breach- most fortunate, in our case.
[D-167617 looks up at Dr. [REDACTED], appearing to enter a lucid state]
D-167617: DOC, I [EXPLETIVES EXPUNGED] - WHAT DID THAT THING DO TO MY [EXPLETIVES EXPUNGED] EARS?
[Dr. [REDACTED] proceeds to write on their notepad.]
Dr. [REDACTED] (Written): We're going to get you some medical help, but first, we need to have you answer some questions. Did you feel anything peculiar occur while blowing the horn?
D-167617: YOU GET ME SOME [EXPUNGED] AND [EXPLETIVES EXPUNGED], DOC! ALL I HEAR IS THAT HORN, IT'S IN MY SKULL! OF COURSE I FELT SOMETHING [EXPLETIVES EXPUNGED] PECULIAR!
Dr. [REDACTED] (Speaking): I think we're done here.
[D-167617 was escorted to the medical staff for an examination, and was administered class [REDACTED] amnestics. ]

Site Director-
I'm sorry for reaching out to you on such short notice, but I was advised by the medical staff to take some leave time after being assessed for a case of tinnitus. I was hoping I could get your approval to do so. Just for a week or two to get some medical treatment, proper assessments, and ensure I am still fit for this job. Thank you for your time.
Thanks,
[SCP-XXXX security staff member 9795814]
[Note: This event has since been determined to be a side affect of exposure to SCP-XXXX.]
Addendum: Dr. [REDACTED] Notes: If left uncontained or improperly contained, it is very possible a feedback loop could form, resulting in a breach of the containment site, or even destruction on a scale as of yet undetermined. Make sure the containment engineers research into further methods of damping.
