Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4047 is currently uncontained due to it's nature. If signs of SCP-4047 are reported and a Shift Event is predicted to occur, MTF Psi-4 ("Shift Searchers")¹are to be dispatched for the purpose of research and experimentation of and on SCP-4047.

After a Shift Event has completed, MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats") is to excavate the area beneath the site of the Shift Event to retrieve the the remains of the previous inhabitants under the guise of "waterway inspection".

Foundation Personnel are to never come within 1km of the affected city unless it is for the purpose of an experiment, which must be authorized by the 05 Council.

Description: SCP-4047 is a reality shifting phenomena that most often affects small towns with a population of, at most, 300 people. While SCP-4047 itself is wildly unpredictable, it seems to follow a slight pattern, as up to ██% of the ███ known Shift Events have occurred in the North-Western region of the United States, and it's range has been slowly growing in the South-Eastern direction.

The Shift Events caused by SCP-4047 happen at a rate of 3 per year, occurring every 4 months over the course of a week.² Shift Events occur only after a total of 7 Stages, in which the reality around the affected city itself begins to change. After the 7 Stages, the Shift Event occurs, wiling the affected city from reality and replacing it with a new one, as seen in the below document.

The warning signs and process of a Shift Event happen in the order as listed below. (Note: All but one Shift Event has followed this exact process, see Incident Report 4047-K-1):

▪️ One Week Prior To Shift Event: Animals are found dead in and around the affected city. Insects unaffected. Inhabitants take no notice of this. The cause of this is still unknown. Officially referred to as Stage 1.

▪️6 Days Prior To Shift Event: Crime rate drops to 0%, regardless of the affected city's previous estimate. Inhabitants take no notice of this.The cause of this is unknown. Officially referred to as Stage 2.

▪️5 Days Prior To Shift Event: The ground beneath the affected city begin to shift subtly, and the city begins to slowly spin. This will result in the city beginning a 360° rotation, upon the completion of which the Final Stage will occur. The diameter of the affected area varies, but is generally about 1km from each side of the city, and approximately 1km below the city. Areas outside of this radius do not seem to be affected. Inhabitants take no notice of this. The cause of this is unknown. Officially referred to as stage 3.

▪️4 Days Prior To Shift Event: Hour long blackouts begin occuring more and more frequently, and grow in duration with each successive blackout, with no plausible explanation for it. Inhabitants take no notice of this. The cause of this is theorized to be the irregular movement of the ground due to Stage 3, although safer systems and other amenities are not affected. Nearby cities do not seem to notice or care about this, as with all stages, possibly being the result of a memetic effect. Officially referred to as Stage 4

▪️3 Days Prior To Shift Event: Cititzens of the affected city show erratic behavioral patterns thought to be inconsistent with their previous mannerisms. The changes vary greatly, and, as such, there is thought to be no particular pattern that are followed. Inhabitants take no notice of this The cause of this is though to be a mild cognitohazardous reaction from SCP-4047. Officially referred to as Stage 5.

▪️2 Days Prior To Shift Event: Sunlight no longer reaches the affected city. It is theorized that the light is not being block, but consumed, as ultra-violet scanners have shown the sunlight being drawn to and absorbed by the border of the area affected by Stage 3. Moonlight unaffected. At this point, individuals who had arrived at the city after stage 3 had initiated, as well as individuals possessing an O-Negative blood type will become extremely panicked and often leave the city, although this is not abnormal given the circumstances. These individuals are not at all affected by any stage as long as they leave the city before the Final Stage occurs, but if they do not leave in time, they will often suffer similar yet different fates in comparison to the other inhabitants. Inhabitants take no notice of this. The cause of this is still unknown. (See Experiment Log A-4047-K.) Officially referred to as Stage 6.

▪️Exactly 4 Hours (12:30 AM) Before Shift Event Occurs: All electronic devices within the borders of the ground affected by Stage 3 become inoperable. Any device within 1km above the affected city's center also affected. Inhabitants take no notice of this. The cause of this is unknown. Officially referred to as Stage 7.

▪️Exactly 10 Minutes (4:20 AM) Before Shift Event Occurs: All inhabitants enter a trance-like state, and all simultaneously stop whatever they are doing and walk into the streets. Inhabitants have been seen jumping through windows and kicking in doors if there is no other way to access the streets. Some have even been seen to [DATA EXPUNGED]. Once on the street, all inhabitants will stand perfectly still, and remain this way until the Shift Event occurs. The cause of this is likely another cognitohazardous effect from SCP-4047. Officially referred to as the Final Stage.

At exactly 4:30 AM, an extremely thick fog suddenly appears, and surrounds and forms a dome-like shape over the affected city, blocking all visibility from the outside, marking the beginning of a Shift Event. Thermal and X-Ray imaging shows that the affected city and all of it's inhabitants have disappeared, as well as that the fog itself gives is gives off extreme heat, estimated to be around ████°K. Despite this heat, surrounding areas are entirely unaffected.

At exactly 5:00 AM, the fog will begin to dissipate and reveal a completely differently structured city that is roughly the same size as the original one, hereby designated as an instance of SCP-4047-1. Each instance of SCP-4047-1 is inhabited by the same total number of different individuals than that of the original city, hereby designated instances of SCP-4047-2.

Instances of SCP-4047-2 show no biological differences in comparison to the previous inhabitants, but are expected different in personality. They show no knowledge of the previous city or it's inhabitants, and act as if they've always lived there. Interviewing instances of SCP-4047-2 has proven fruitless.

All outside knowledge of the original city and it's inhabitants is completely erased from existence along with the city itself, effectively wiping it from reality, although individuals possessing an O-Negative blood type are unaffected and keep all knowledge.

The original city is never found, but the remains of it's inhabitants are usually found approximately ███m underneath SCP-4047-1. The remains show signs of blunt force trauma and are often missing arms, legs, and other extremities. The cause of this is unknown.]

It has been proven possible that individuals can survive a Shift Event, although it is extremely rare, the total number being ██. Survivors most commonly wake up within a 7 mile radius of the orignal, and new city. It is unknown how or why there are survivors, but they usually have no recollection of what happened during the Shift Event, but all understandably show signs of extreme depression.

Most survivors show little to no actual physical damage directly after the Shift Event, but, strangely, all have died under strange and unlikely circumstances between 1-2 weeks after the Shift Event. Research is still being conducted on SCP-4047, but so far no method of containment or obstruction has been found.

Discovery: SCP-4047 was discovered in ████ when a survivor of a Shift Event was admitted to a pscyhiatric hospital. He insisted that his hometown had been erased and replaced by another one. The incident did not draw the attention of the Foundation until extensive psychological evaluations, lie detector tests, and brain scans showed that he was in near perfect health save for his signs of extreme depression.

Subject was absolutely uncooperative. Upon realizing that they were likely not going to get any valuable information, Dr. ██████ offered to buy Limbroke a hotel room, which was politely declined. Limbroke's body was found on a construction site in ███████ , Tennessee, approximately ███ miles from the facility at which he was last seen.

His cause of death was an I-Beam likely falling from above, impaling him right through his stomach. Although, contrary to this widely accepted scenario, the construction workers insisted that the part of the construction site that Limbroke was found in was not authorized to store or handle I-Beams, or anything like them.

They were not given much credence until a thorough investigation showed that, not only were there no I-Beams on that side of the construction site, but the I-Beam that had impaled Limbroke was unaccounted for in all documented shipments. It is unknown what Limbroke was doing at the construction site at the time of his death.

More research was conducted until a Foundation Operative reported that his mother had begun acting strange before and calling him saying that he needed to come pick her up urgently. He eventually lost contact altogether, and when he went to check on her, the entire city had reportedly been "transformed or replaced".

Upon discovering that he possessed an O-Negative blood type, the 05 Council quickly ordered the creation of MTF Psi-4, the "Shift Searchers", all of which possess and O-Negative blood type, to research and combat SCP-4047.³
