SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Object is to be held in secure containment vault Alpha-9 at Site 12. One (1) Kilogram of wholegrain wheat must be kept within the Object at all times, except for under testing conditions. One (1) litre of water must be present at all times during testing of SCP-XXXX, which will be used in the event of a containment breach. In the event of a catastrophic containment breach, MTF Theta-12 ("Bakers Dozen") is mobilised to contain SCP-XXXX, and incinerate any instance of SCP-XXXX-3; otherwise, standard cleanup procedures apply. All instances of SCP-XXX-1 are provided to the on-site cafeteria, and all instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are removed via standard waste disposal.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a standard 40 x 25 x 17.5cm breadbin. Physically, SCP-XXXX has no unusual properties; however, properties manifest when the Object's lid is closed, and there is no wheat-based substance currently inside of it. Currently, SCP-XXXX has only three features:

  • When SCP-XXXX's lid is closed, and nothing is inside of it, a 5 second period of popping sound which researchers have likened to a "popcorn kernel popping" noise can be heard emanating from inside SCP-XXXX. After this period, SCP-XXX will contain one (1) standard loaf of white bread, henceforth designated SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 has no anomalous properties and is considered the safest of all three instances created by SCP-XXXX.
  • When SCP-XXXX's lid is closed, and any non-wheat based object is placed inside of it, an 8 second period of popping noise can be heard emanating from inside SCP-XXXX. Once this period has passed, a new instance of SCP-XXXX-2 can be found inside the Object. SCP-XXXX-2 is almost entirely identical to SCP-XXXX-1, with one notable difference; SCP-XXXX-2 will take on the perceived taste or "essence" of whatever item was placed inside SCP-XXXX at the time of SCP-XXXX-2's creation. Similarly, if subjects place an object they perceive to be harmful, SCP-XXXX-2 will produce a sensation of crippling fear in the Subject. This effect varies from Subject to Subject regardless of what Object is placed inside of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-1 Items placed inside SCP-XXXX for testing includes, but is not limited too: 2 litres of water, 50 grams of copper, A photograph of Agent Lorenzo's family, 1 pound of human flesh, one bag of chips, █████████, A plastic bag, an image of a dog1, and 3 moles of Hydrochloric acid. SCP-XXXX-2 has also been found to accept living organisms, with its perceived taste dependant on the relationship between organism placed inside SCP-XXXX and Subject consuming SCP-XXXX-2. For a full list of previously created SCP-XXXX-2 instances and their previous forms, please refer to document XXXX-A-12 ("Results of SCP-XXXX testing with items.").
  • When SCP-XXXX's lid is closed, and nothing is inside of it, and the cover is opened before the 5 second period of poping has finished, the Object will begin to overflow with instances of SCP-XXXX-3. Unlike SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-3 is cut into individual slices, which duplicate at a rate of 2 portions per second. This rate doubles every 1 minute. SCP-XXXX-3 will also convert all non-structural supporting objects and all biological matter into instances of itself. All transmuted matter immediately turns into SCP-XXXX-3 instances, regardless of how significant initial exposure was. The exposed substance will retain its original state, albeit made out of bread, before conversion for approximately 3 seconds before collapsing into a pile of SCP-XXXX-3 and assume the same duplication properties. Water negates all instances of SCP-XXXX-3 simultaneously, with a single drop on any instance negating all instances simultaneously, removing all ability to duplicate and transmute matter. Water does not affect instances 1 and 2, respectively. No other liquid's, including ones with a base of water such as Brine, share this effect.

Investigation over the sentience of SCP-XXXX-3 and why water, in particular, affects SCP-XXXX-3 are still ongoing.
