Item #: SCP-XXXX

Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: A 50 meter radius perimeter wall has been constructed around SCP-X out of reinforced concrete. The interior surface is coated in a toxic anomalous material that dissolves the exoskeletons of SCP-X.

SCP-X can be communicated with through speakers that have been installed along the top of the northernmost section of wall; SCP-X is capable of understanding human speech, and can reply by using SCP-X-A to form symbols on the ground. The containment area is to be observed constantly through the video surveillance system that has been installed throughout the containment area. SCP-X has become unresponsive as of 2017, and no longer responds to Foundation personnel.

The following special containment procedures are under review by Research and Containment director, Dr. Vivian Schultz:

A network of Scranton reality anchors are to be deployed in a 50km containment zone directly around SCP-X; Future SCP-X colonies are to be contained with the original containment procedures, with the addition that an area of 10 square kilometers will be added to the containment zone, with strategically placed Scranton reality anchors being scattered throughout it. Surveillance assets are to be integrated into the region to ensure that any and all containment breaches of SCP-X can be found and exterminated. MTF Lambda-12 ("Pest Control") is tasked with tracking, containing, and exterminating SCP-X in the event of a breach.

Description: SCP-X is the designation for a species of anomalous insects and their colony near Galesburg, Kansas in which they reside. SCP-X's morphology resembles insects of the family Formicidae, with a stocky head, a slender alitrunk and petiole, and a wide gaster terminating in a vestigial stinger. SCP-X is eusocial and possesses a form of collective consciousness; the intelligence of each instance of SCP-X is dependent on the number of SCP-X that exist in total. SCP-X are organized into a caste system, where each instance of SCP-X possesses certain traits that define the caste the instance is a member of. The following are the currently known types of SCP-X:

SCP-X-A are the most common form of SCP-X. SCP-X-A are responsible for scouting and procuring resources. SCP-X-A and SCP-X-B are the only members of SCP-X that regularly leave the colony. SCP-X-A coordinate with one another in groups of 100-200 members. Approximately 50-70 such groups are present within the colony, of which 75% are wandering the containment area at any given time. SCP-X-A are capable of collaborative telekineses, and are capable of manipulating large objects up to 10 meters away.

SCP-X-B are the soldiers of the colony. They defend the colony from non-anomalous insects and other animals. SCP-X-B have the ability to telepathically communicate memetic hazards to any living organisms within 12 meters of them. SCP-X-B are organized into patrols of 5-10 instances, and 3-4 such patrols may be wandering around the containment area at any given time.
SCP-X-C are the members of the colony responsible for rearing SCP-X larvae. SCP-X young are unable to control their anomalous abilities. Therefore, SCP-X-C have adopted the role of living reality anchors; They project a Hume-regulating force which stabilizes and eliminates the risk that SCP-X’s anomalous abilities poses to itself while they’re young.

SCP-X-D are breeding males. The population of SCP-X-D varies depending on the season and the colony’s need for new SCP-X. SCP-X-D’s anomalous abilities are relegated to a weak memetic effect which induces arousal in organisms within several centimeters of them.

SCP-X-E are the colony’s queens. The SCP-X colony is polygynous; At least 3 queens operate the colony at any given time. The reality bending abilities of SCP-X-E are currently unknown. SCP-X-E can control any member of SCP-X, and can amplify their anomalous abilities significantly. For example, SCP-X-A that have been controlled by SCP-X-E have been able to produce telekinetic forces in excess of 2.18 * 10^11 joules, which caused extensive damage to the perimeter wall of the containment area.

The colony of SCP-X has no definite volume. While the external manifestation of the colony measures only 7 cubic meters and is safely contained within the containment area, the internal volume of colony is unknown. The structure of SCP-X has been shown to be woven into reality-itself, and is composed of networks of chambers and tunnels through space-time. In areas where the colony has physically manifested, the structure is bound by an event horizon which defines its volume in standard space. SCP-X are capable of traversing this event horizon without issue; Any other objects that contact the surface of the colony are lost behind the event horizon. This anomalous property creates gravitational forces that lead to extensive (albeit unstable) gravitational lensing, giving the colony a “shimmering” appearance.

While containment of SCP-X was initially successful, SCP-X has been able to adapt remarkably quickly. The presence of an SCP-X colony in the local space-time can be determined by the local Hume levels. Since 2018, Hume levels throughout the entirety of Eastern Kansas and parts of Missouri have risen sharply. Statistical analysis of Hume readings from detectors throughout the area indicate that the increasing Hume levels are originating from SCP-X.

In May, 2019, a second colony manifested 37 kilometers West of the original colony, near Fredonia, Kansas. At the same time, instances of SCP-X began to manifest from hundreds of locations throughout the region. While most of these breaches occured in areas where SCP-X would not be encountered by people, such as in the surrounding , one such manifestation of SCP-X occured inside of the Galesburg United Methodist Church during hymns. Thousands of SCP-X manifested from points inside of the walls and floor of the church before spreading outward during the service. Instances of SCP-X-B were initially non-hostile; However, when the people attending the service noticed the swarms of ants spreading across the walls and floor, they attempted to leave, killing numerous SCP-X as they walked down the aisle leading up to the altar. As a result, the SCP-X-B began to attack the church attendees, injuring 12 and killing 2 people. When the church attendees had escaped the building and were waiting for the arrival of medical services, one attendee, Mr. Mark North, became violently ill and collapsed. An attendee attempted to perform CPR but discovered that SCP-X had manifested inside of Mr. North and were now swarming out his orifices. Mr. North later died in Foundation custody after agents were dispatched to reestablish containment of SCP-X and to administer amnestics to the community.
