Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is contained in a standard synthetic nature habitat in Research Sector-03 at Site-19. A tracking device is embedded under the skin of the entity. For transportation, before an individual enters the cell, they are to tranquilize SCP-XXXX through the use of desflurane gas and a dose of Propofol through injection. Harnesses are to be used to strap the anomaly's wings against its side during transportation. Currently, SCP-XXXX expressed the desire to stay under foundation custody voluntarily to prevent civilian harm.
Threats of physical harm are not to be made towards other personnel within 15 meters of SCP-XXXX to prevent the entity from becoming agitated and attempting to breach containment. SCP-XXXX's diet consists of livestock, such as cows or pigs, and large volumes of fresh, raw fish. It is fed once monthly to give proper time for digestion of its past meals. Cacao pods can be rewarded to SCP-XXXX for cooperative behaviors.
To prevent a possible breach or permanent damage to SCP-XXXX, personnel experiencing extreme amounts of emotional stress are not to be near the containment cell of SCP-XXXX. Personnel found not following this rule are to be disallowed to continue working with the entity. If an emotional being triggers a reaction in SCP-XXXX, the cell must be filled with desflurane gas to calm and exhaust the anomaly to allow staff to administer anesthesia through injections safely. Damages to the cell are to be repaired once SCP-XXXX is confirmed to be unconscious. When repairs have been complete, all staff must exit the containment cell. Repairs that take over an hour must have intermissions to allow more anesthesia to be administered to SCP-XXXX. No personnel are to be within the entity's containment cell while it is awake without written permission and reasoning from a Site Director.
Containment Note: Due to SCP-XXXX growing at a consistent rate and foundation scientists being unable to determine the maximum size that it will grow to, the containment class may be reclassified as Keter in the future.
Description:

SCP-XXXX is a winged endothermic reptilian entity with features and behaviors resembling those of a standard green pit viper (Trimeresurus Albolabris). It currently measures 10 meters in length, weighing 346 kilograms. SCP-XXXX has feathers around the base of its head and attempts to remove a feather from the area or its wings result in the feather regrowing within a few hours. SCP-XXXX's wings are anatomically similar to a parrot, with a current wingspan of 17 meters. Three large feathers with a similar shape to the tail feathers of a Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) are located on the tip of its tail. SCP-XXXX can communicate with other individuals. The entity shows a particular interest in humans, expressing that it wants to aid humanity in any way possible, needing a purpose in life.
High amounts of emotional distress in beings within 20-meter proximity causes agitation and excessive stress to SCP-XXXX. The anomaly will attempt to breach containment, slamming its body and head against the observation window and the walls around it in an attempt to get to and 'aid' the being who triggered the reaction. SCP-XXXX also senses others who being threatened with physical harm while within a thirty-meter distance of the subject. While near a person who is in possible life-threatening danger, SCP-XXXX will begin to defend the individual, attempting to separate them from the threat in a non-violent manner. The background and intentions of the victim do not affect the entity’s reaction.
If the danger persists, SCP-XXXX will begin to strike towards the individual using its fangs, often leaving minor puncture wounds if it manages to reach the offender. It will inject a mixture of saliva and small amounts of hemotoxic venom (The solution is referred to as Q-4190). The first strike acts as a warning, injecting only 10 mcg to 15 mcg of Q-4190, causing paralysis in the area and the breakdown of cells and tissues around the bite. The second strike will inject an extra 30 mg to 480 mg, depending on the size of the offender, to incapacitate or possibly kill the other being. Anti-venom has proven ineffective in neutralizing the effects caused by the venom if 50 mg or more has been injected (See Addendum XXXX-4.2).
Addendum XXXX-1.1:
The following logs were taken during SCP-XXXX’s initial discovery.
Observational Log XXXX-01
Date: 8/6/1993
Subject: SCP-XXXX
In San Juan Teotihuacán, Mexico, SCP-XXXX was discovered on August 5, 1993, after multiple tourists reported a “winged monster” in the area around the Templo de Quetzalcóatl (The Temple of the Feathered Serpent). MTF Epsilon-6 was sent to contain the entity. SCP-XXXX was located crawling out of the mouth of a giant Quetzalcoatl statue situated outside Templo de Quetzalcóatl. It was eventually measured to be 2.3 meters in length. The entity was unaggressive and did not attack MTF, only observing them. It was quickly incapacitated with a sedation dart and transported to Site-19 to be contained. The Foundation created a story to secure secrecy from the public.
Addendum XXXX-1.2:
Elwin Canmore recorded the following audio log during the discovery of SCP-XXXX. The team gave information that is not available through the audio alone.
Audio Log XXXX-01
Date: 8/6/1993
MTF Team Leader: Elwin Canmore
Location: Templo de Quetzalcóatl, San Juan Teotihuacán, Mexico
<Begin Log>
Canmore has the vehicle parked near the search area. He is accompanied by Laya Ferguson and Martin Delacruz.
Canmore: Stay aware. We are in the final area we have to search. Be on high alert. This has to be the place.
Ferguson: Are you sure someone didn't see a branch move and made up this whole story? I'm sweating myself to death out here.
Canmore: Well, even if that is the case, we can't leave until we confirm entirely that there is nothing here. I'd be in deep shit if I let us go and another group found something here.
Ferguson: (She audibly sighs) I know, I know. It's just so damn hot. I just want this to be done and over with so we can all cool down.
Canmore: You are not the only one who wants to get out of the sun. We have a job to do, though. We were sent out here in these temperatures because it’s a reptile. It would be most likely basking during these hours if it were here.
Delacruz: I wouldn't even be mad if someone thought they saw something. As Laya said, it's so hot that probably anyone out here would start seeing things. Also, who said it was an ordinary reptile? We haven't seen it yet. Maybe it is some godly lizard or a three-headed serpent. Maybe it mind controls tourists into creating stories about it.
Canmore and Delacruz both laugh. Ferguson calls for their attention.
Ferguson: Hey- wait. Look over there- (She is silent for a moment, motioning over to where she is looking) Look at that statue. Do you see that green patch in the mouth?
Canmore: (He looks towards where she is pointing) Well, it seems that those folks might not be as crazy as we thought. Have your tranquilizers ready. We don't know if this thing might be aggressive and attack. If it starts advancing, you know what to do.
(The team moves up the temple. The anomaly pokes its head slowly out of the mouth of the statue, observing the group. It remains still, the feathers around its neck puffing up.)
Canmore: I'll be damned. Alright. Martin, you move in slowly from the right. Laya, you stay on the left so I can approach it from the front. Be ready to tranquilize it if it tries to escape.
Each cautiously gets in their positions. SCP-XXXX is only watching them, flicking its tongue. It does not show any signs of hostility. Canmore approaches the entity slowly, and SCP-XXXX moves from the statue’s mouth down to the ground. It mirrors Canmore's actions, only moving when he does. It extends its wings slightly, making itself look larger in size.
Ferguson: (Has a quieter, slower tone to her voice to not possibly startle SCP-XXXX) Should we fire some tranqs into it? It looks like it might feel threatened. I would rather have it not attack one of us and get away. It seems docile, but it also appears to be prepared for something. It's a bit worrying.
Canmore: I agree. (He keeps his eyes locked on SCP-XXXX) Alright. You need to be quick. Aim for the area right below the head. It will most likely have a soft spot where the feathers are around its neck. That is where they will work the fastest.
Delacruz: Got it. Prepare for possible aggression. I'm taking the shot.
Delacruz aims his tranquilizer gun at the entity. SCP-XXXX does not break eye contact with Canmore. A tranquilizer is fired into the area of feathers around the base of its head. The effects of the tranquilizer are not immediately visible.
SCP-XXXX's head, which was initially off the ground while the entity observed Canmore, lowers. It shows signs of minor discomfort, its body coiling up, fighting the effects of the dart. SCP-XXXX moves towards Canmore, causing him to back up a few steps, but the results of the tranquilizer cause multiple pauses in the anomaly’s advance.
It thrashes a bit but does not directly attack. SCP-XXXX's movements eventually slow, and it goes entirely still within a 30 second period. The wings of the reptile are outstretched and limp.
Delacruz: I did not expect it just… let us dart it? (He laughs a bit) We should get this thing in the transfer container and get out of here. I'll be surprised if I don't have heat stroke after this.
Canmore: Don't be so quick to assume that we are done. Snakes don't have eyelids, so it might not be asleep. We still need to be cautious. Even if it acted docile initially, we need to treat it like a threat. Laya, grab the transfer container. I'll move it into the container.
Delacruz: Alright. I wouldn't be surprised if it were pissed. I know if someone knocked on my door holding guns and darted me, I wouldn't be the most compliant.
Ferguson: (Her voice is distant) Martin, can you help me carry this over? It's cumbersome. I think once we put the anomaly inside, we will all need to help move it back.
Delacruz: Of course.
Delacruz aids Ferguson in carrying the transfer container up the temple to where SCP-XXXX is supposedly unconscious. They unlock the container and open the top. Canmore slowly begins to pick up the entity with snake tongs. SCP-XXXX moves its head to watch Canmore but does not react in any other way.
Canmore places it inside the transfer container, tucking its wings to its side using the tongs. He closes the top of the container, locking it, and sets the tongs on the lid. Small amounts of ineligible conversation are heard while the team moves the transfer container back to the vehicle.
<End Log>
Addendum XXXX-2.1:
The following logs were taken during the containment of SCP-XXXX.
Observational Log XXXX-02
Date: 9/2/1993
Subject: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX has reacted positively to the containment cell it was provided. It spends most of its day exploring the cell, climbing up the artificial trees and plants. It only shows irritation when it is sedated before feedings and during transportation. When it wakes up, it is aggravated, and during tests, it is given a few minutes to become docile again. Medical files show it is healthy and has a consistent eating pattern, enjoying a mixed diet of medium-sized animals and fish. Cacao beans have been offered once as a reward for cooperative behavior, and SCP-XXXX expressed contentment with the reward.
Observational Log XXXX-03
Date: 3/19/2001
Subject: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX has shown behaviors similar to those of a devious child. It has approached the glass on multiple occasions, slamming on the window to attract staff’s attention. It will continue these actions until it receives a reaction. Afterward, it will return to its original location in the cell, please with itself. If no response is received, it will gradually become aggressive and make a combination of hissing and spitting noises. Eventually, it returns to its original spot again, the aggression remaining for a short period before it becomes docile again.
Observational Log XXXX-04
Date: 7/5/2005
Subject: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX was observed speaking around 14:32 while it was attempting to gain the attention of staff. It started with small sentences, asking what day it was, as well as the time. When answered, it reacted positively. The team questioned it, and the entity explained that it listened to the conversations personnel had to teach itself. Staff asked SCP-XXXX if it was able to describe what it was. The entity did not respond to the question due to a limited vocabulary. A program (Titled the SCP Vocabulary and Speech Training, or SCP-VST) was created by Dr. Daniel Barkley, the new head researcher of the team studying SCP-XXXX, that spanned over two years to help increase SCP-XXXX's vocabulary. It is estimated to learn between 7,000 and 9,000 depending on how quickly the entity can learn and how cooperative it is.
Addendum XXXX-2.2:
The following collection of observation logs reveal changes in SCP-XXXX's behavior after the conclusion of the SCP-VST. The reasoning behind these sudden changes is unknown.
Observational Log XXXX-05
Date: 11/10/2009
Subject: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX's behaviors have changed recently, and the entity has asked the staff if it could leave the cell numerous times, each request being denied. SCP-XXXX is becoming more apprehensive as of late, sometimes beginning to cry and remain in one corner of its enclosure. When asked why it was reacting in this manner, it divulged that it could feel the pain of those around it. It added that it could sense the fear of a staff member. The team member who it was referring to was questioned, and they confirmed that they had a family member who had recently been in a car crash and was in the hospital.
Observational Log XXXX-06
Date: 11/27/2009
Subject: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX’s eating habits changed, the entity refusing to eat, leaving the livestock it was provided alone. SCP-XXXX became highly fatigued, remaining in the corner of its cell, suffering from malnutrition due to its higher than average metabolism. The entity was tranquilized and force-fed using a feeding tube through the mouth. SCP-XXXX recovered after 4 days, returning to its normal behaviors. It is theorized that emotional distress from those who work around the entity is the main reason for the behavior change. Staff are no longer allowed to work around SCP-XXXX if they are in an emotional state, whether it can be seen physically or not. They may return to their work after they recover.
Observational Log XXXX-07
Date: 12/22/2009
Subject: SCP-XXXX
A test involving a D-Class (D-17603) was going to be organized today but was canceled due to a turn of events that occurred. D-17603 was not cooperative, fighting verbally with staff and security. When security held D-17603 down by their shoulders while holding their weapons, SCP-XXXX became hostile, approaching the observation window and slamming up against the window as it made a combination of different noises. Security removed D-17603 from the area, and SCP-XXXX became passive after 20 minutes.
Following the SCP-VST, tests that will study how SCP-XXXX reacts to specific outside forces were scheduled. Four microphones were installed within SCP-XXXX's containment cell at the request of Dr. Barkley. The microphones are located above, below, and on both sides of the observation window. Barkley explained that information regarding the origins of SCP-XXXX was required before testing could be complete. The installment of the microphones also allows interviews to be conducted more frequently and removes the need for temporary microphones to be installed before or removed after the interview, diminishing the chance of a breach caused by personnel occurring.
Interview XXXX-01
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Daniel Barkley
Date: November 17, 2010.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Barkley: Hello SCP-XXXX. I see you have discovered the microphones we installed.
SCP-XXXX: (Looking at the microphone below the window, but directs its attention to the observation window) Oh! Niltze, Dr. Barkley! Yes, I have! They are pretty neat! ¿Quen tinemi?1
Dr. Barkley: I'm doing very well. Today, I wanted to see if we could get more information about your past. We have not gotten to ask you about your past, but now that the program we had you complete is over, we want to understand where you originated from. I believed that asking you would be more informative than researching it on our own.
SCP-XXXX: Oh! I'd be happy to explain my old life! It is pretty interesting. I am- well, was a deity, but at the moment, I can't exactly take that title. I helped to take care of my followers and was known by many names. Quetzalcōātl, God of Life, God of Wind, God of Wisdom- the list could go on and on. I did a lot to provide my people with what they needed to advance.
Dr. Barkley: I see. What did each title mean to you?
SCP-XXXX: The title meant that my followers put their faith in me enough that they would worship me and praise me for the help I offered. They understood that I didn't have to do things for them, but I still did, and the people showing thanks to me and other deities was what gave us our strength.
Dr. Barkley: What is ‘giving thanks’ in your eyes? What did they do for you that gave you your power?
SCP-XXXX: I get power from people believing in me, as well as from the gifts they offered me. Unlike some of the other deities, I didn’t ask for human sacrifice. I didn’t want to watch the people I protected kill each other for me. I was gifted with animals such as snakes, butterflies, and birds. Without having my followers and the gifts they offered, I became mortal, just like you. I remain the same physically, but I can be affected by injury, disease, and many other forms of harm.
Dr. Barkley: Is it the same for other gods? Do you all become mortal, or is it just you?
SCP-XXXX: We all are affected. That is why we all work together harmoniously. There were a few times that we conflicted with each other and other serious issues occurred. We brought pain to each other, and there was some hatred between us for a while, but we soon learned that if we wanted to keep our immortality, we couldn't be doing things to upset each other. When we lose the ability to be kind to each other and are fighting or disagreeing, we cannot protect our followers. Our people don't understand that, though.
Dr. Barkley: What types of conflicts happened between you and other deities?
SCP-XXXX: A lot happened. I can't remember an exact example, but we all did something we ended up regretting at least once. Some of us did things that we wouldn't usually have done, while others purposely cause pain. We all had a part of us to change for the better. We didn't want our followers to see or know we fought at times or could die. That would lead to more issues.
Dr. Barkley: What issues could be created if you had told them what you are telling me now? Why did you all feel the need to hide that type of information from them?
SCP-XXXX: If they knew we could die, they wouldn't have the same amount of faith in us. Same with us fighting. They looked up to us. They expected us to work together to help them. We would have fallen sooner if they knew. That's why I had been revived and was not just the original me. Us being unable to work together and fix an issue resulted in mortality overtaking us.
Dr. Barkley: You died because people stopped believing in you? What caused people to stop believing in you?
SCP-XXXX: They stopped believing when they saw death all around them. It's a very tragic story, and what happened still makes me sick to even think about it. They didn't deserve what was brought upon them. Me somehow being alive, doing nothing to help others, is disrespectful to those who perished.
Dr. Barkley: Could you elaborate more?
SCP-XXXX: My people and us gods, we had been thriving. Everything seemed to be perfect. We did our jobs as gods, and the people lived without fear. We promised to protect them, and they trusted our word. We were doing well. We controlled the storms, making sure they never go powerful enough to destroy their work. We gave them the rain to nourish their crops. We gave them the seeds to plant those crops. Life was wonderful. Then, something appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Something we couldn't get rid of or control. A disease far worse than anything I had ever seen in my lifetime.
Dr. Barkley: A disease? What type of disease?
SCP-XXXX: Yes. You may have heard of it. It was named the 'cocoliztli' by my people. We could not figure out its origin, and it ravaged everyone it infected. Many died within a few days, but those that survived longer only suffered. They had raging fevers, their tongues were darker than night, and blood spilled from their mouths, noses, and eyes. It wasn't something we could just destroy. We couldn't save anyone from it.
Dr. Barkley: Why is that? As a god, couldn't you all control it?
SCP-XXXX: It wasn't like the weather we controlled, the knowledge we gave them, or the crops we planted among them. This was something mysterious. Something none of us knew how to handle. Us being unable to save our people is what led to our downfall. Trust is what kept us immortal. When the people watched their friends and family die in such horrible ways, they had a reason not to trust us. We promised that they would be safe. Soon, we became just as mortal as our followers. I watched those who I had ruled with perish to the disease we were trying to destroy, and I followed in their steps soon after, succumbing to the cocoliztli.
Dr. Barkley: If you died to the disease, what caused you to be brought back to life? Did it just feel like you had fallen asleep and woke up, or was there more? Were others brought back with you?
SCP-XXXX: I don't know what brought me back. All I remember between when I died and when I was brought back was darkness and quiet. I couldn't see, and I was cold. It was still peaceful in a way, though. Then I remember a bright light engulfed me, dragging me out of the darkness. When I opened my eyes, I was back at my original death place. This time, though, I was alone. No one else was there with me. If others were back, they either were brought back before I was revived or after you all brought me here. I remained in that area for at least 4 years.
Dr. Barkley: Do you believe there could be others out there that just haven't been encountered?
SCP-XXXX: I think there possibly could be (Pauses). Though, if there are others, I would want them to remain hidden. You are a kind person, Dr. Barkley, but I would not wish this isolation upon anyone. I would want them to live their lives.
Dr. Barkley: (Suspicious tone) Are you sure you do not know the location of any other deities? It is information that we would need to protect people and to assure that the secrecy of the Foundation is kept intact.
SCP-XXXX: (Shakes its head) I am telling the truth. I don't know the locations of others. As I said, I don't even know if others were brought back in the same way I was. If I knew more than I was letting on, you would know. I can promise you that. I wouldn't lie to you, Dr. Barkley. You treat me with nothing but respect. I want to return the favor in any way I can.
Dr. Barkley: Is there more that you haven't said yet, or is that all you know?
SCP-XXXX: Quema, there is more. If you were to question me again and wanted more information, I would give it if I felt it would help you understand what I am better. Anything I don't say is something I believe I can't explain yet. When I feel I can explain it in a straightforward and not confusing or complicated way, I will tell you about it.
Dr. Barkley: You do understand that it would be in your best interest to tell me at this moment what you haven't said already, correct?
SCP-XXXX: You may think that, but that is not the case. I believe we’ve talked enough for one interview. I want to rest. I had to remember a moment that was not exactly pleasant for me, and I think anyone would want to relax after that. I hope you have a good day, doctor. (It moves away from the microphones)
Dr. Barkley: SCP-XXXX, we haven't finished the interview-
SCP-XXXX: (Distant) Yes we have. Ma cualli tōnalli.2
<End Log>
Interview Note: SCP-XXXX refused to talk to staff for the remainder of the day, staying in the far corner of its cell, coiled up.
Addendum XXXX-4.1:
The following table shows the results of tests conducted to observe SCP-XXXX's reaction to emotional stress in those around it and to better understand its limits.
| Test 1 | |
| Date | 8/14/2010 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | Staff place a personnel member who was suffering fatigue near the SCP-XXXX's containment cell. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX shows signs of sensing the personnel member. It flicks its tongue at a fast rate, searching around the cell. After 14 minutes, it loses interest when it realizes there is nothing in its cell. It shows no further reactions to the personnel. |
| Test 2 | |
| Date | 8/15/2010 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | Staff place a personnel member who recently suffered the loss of a pet near SCP-XXXX's containment cell. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX is perturbed, frantically moving around its cell. It calls out for staff, wondering what is happening and asking what happened (Most likely directed at the personnel member). It moves to the observation window, watching the personnel with an anxious expression. It does not take its eyes off the personnel member until they are out of view. When the personnel is removed from the area, it returns to its normal behaviors. |
| Test 3 | |
| Date | 8/16/2010 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | Staff place a personnel member who recently lost a family member near SCP-XXXX's containment cell. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX immediately expresses distress, crying as it coils up, covering its head with its wings. It begs for staff to let it out, stating that the emotional stress that the personnel member is experiencing is "too familiar" and that it needs to help them. When it is rejected, SCP-XXXX begins to violently slam its body up against the observation window. It cracks the glass, but does not break through. The personnel member is removed from the area and SCP-XXXX is sedated to prevent a possible breach. |
Conclusion Note: The tests confirm that emotional stress caused by loss of family causes the strongest reaction from SCP-XXXX. When questioned after the third test, SCP-XXXX confirmed it was because it reminds them too much of what they had lost. They explained when the personnel member was near them, they could only think about helping them and wanting them not to be alone.
Addendum XXXX-4.2:
The following table contains tests demonstrating SCP-XXXX's protective behaviors.
| Test 1 | |
| Date | 2/15/2013 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | D-45528 is provided a Beretta M9 without ammo and is instructed to aim the firearm at D-54515. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX does not reacting, remaining on the other side of the cell. It pays no attention to D-54515 and D-45528. |
| Test 2 | |
| Date | 2/17/2013 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | D-45528 is instructed to strike D-54515 in the stomach with their fist. |
| Results | D-54515 is struck in the stomach and SCP-XXXX moves towards them, making a hissing noise at D-45528, not react any further afterward. |
| Test 3 | |
| Date | 2/20/2013 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | D-14785 is instructed to aim a Beretta M9 with one bullet in the magazine at D-75115. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX immediately pushes between the two, getting in front of D-75115. The entity's wings are extended, shielding D-75115 from D-14785. Once D-14785 retreats, SCP-XXXX's body language becomes passive. |
| Test 4 | |
| Date | 2/21/2013 |
| Subject | SCP-XXXX |
| Procedure | Test 3 is to be repeated, and D-14785 is instructed to advance towards D-75115. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX remained still for multiple seconds as D-14785 advances. It coils into an S-shape. The entity quickly strikes towards D-14785 missing the first time. Staff instructed D-14785 to retreat, but SCP-XXXX strikes again, managing to bite into D-14785’s torso. D-14785 falls back and the entity is tranquilized to allow for the removal of both D-class. D-14785 is taken to medical and a blood test is conducted. Large traces of Q-4190 is detected in the blood sample, causing the destruction of red blood cells. Anti-venom is administered, but the effects remain. D-14785 expired 2 hours later due to extreme internal hemorrhaging. |
Conclusion Note: Due to Q-4190 containing larges doses of hemotoxic venom, scientists will conduct further research to decide if SCP-XXXX's venom could be used to create anti-venoms as well as aid in producing modern medicines.
The following is a video log of events during and after SCP-XXXX’s breach, which was later found to have been caused by an incorrect dosage of anesthetics.

Subject: SCP-XXXX
<16:47:03> SCP-XXXX is being returned to its containment cell after testing has been concluded. The entity regains consciousness and frees itself from the restraints holding down its wings.
<16:50:31> The area is on lockdown to prevent SCP-XXXX from reaching other parts of the facility. Security arms with tranquilizers to contain the entity.
<17:02:06> SCP-XXXX is at one of the locked doors, attempting to push it open. SCP-XXXX notices security approaching and pushes up against the door and wall, hissing as it tries to retreat.
<17:03:01> Security fires a tranquilizer into the neck of SCP-XXXX. It continues its attempt to get away from the guards. Security fires another tranquilizer dart, once again not visually affecting the entity.
<17:10:09> 8 tranquilizer darts in the neck and body of SCP-XXXX fatigue the entity. It lays on the ground. It curls up, its wings shielding its neck and head.
<17:32:12> The entity is unconscious. Security transports SCP-XXXX back to its containment cell. Its vitals are steady.
<17:49:33> Disposing of the darts, security leaves the cell and revokes the lockdown. Staff are making observations while SCP-XXXX is inactive.
<18:43:09> SCP-XXXX wakes up and shows immediate signs of distress. Staff asks if it is well, and the entity apologizes multiple times, asking for forgiveness. SCP-XXXX is covering its face with its wings, similar to the actions made while being tranquilized.
Dr. Barkley conducted the following interview two hours after the entity was returned to its cell. The doctor did not enter, speaking to the entity over the speakers while microphones near the window allowed SCP-XXXX to respond.
Interview XXXX-02
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Daniel Barkley
Date: 10/11/2018
<Begin Log>
SCP-XXXX: (Quiet, watching Dr. Barkley with a nervous expression)
Dr. Barkley: SCP-XXXX, I'm sure you know why this interview is happening.
SCP-XXXX: I do, but why do you want to talk to me? Haven't I done something bad?
Dr. Barkley: You have done something you aren't allowed to do, but I am here to ask a few questions regarding you and the breach that occurred earlier today. (He places a few papers on the table before him) The breach log that I was given interested me, and I wanted to know more about what happened from your perspective.
SCP-XXXX: How long will this take? If I'm to be honest with you, Dr. Barkley, I don't know if I can do a lengthy interview at the moment.
Dr. Barkley: It doesn’t have to take long. If you are cooperative, we should be done in a few minutes. Just answer truthfully.
SCP-XXXX: (Hesitates) Okay. I’ll answer your questions if I can. What do you need to know?
Dr. Barkley: (Glances down at notes) The first thing I want to ask is what were your reasons for attempting to escape? (He returns his gaze to SCP-XXXX) What intentions did you have upon escape?
SCP-XXXX: (Thinks for a moment) Escape… Well, me escaping meant that maybe, just maybe, I’d have the chance to be free of this place, meet others that could be friends. I’ve been in here for years and never see areas other than my cell or where I am tested. I was excited to maybe see something new for once. I'm not saying I haven't been taken care of properly, but I'm like you in the sense that I want to be social. You and I, neither of us would handle isolation well.
Dr. Barkley: I understand that, but you aren’t allowed out for a reason. Besides, you have the staff and doctors to talk to if you want to have a conversation. You don't try to speak to them as often as you used to when you first finished the program we had you complete. We have a microphone in there to hear what you have to say.
SCP-XXXX: If a person is kept around the same people for their whole life, they will lose interest. Variety is what keeps someone involved. I want someone I can laugh with, chat withー Not someone who is there only to ask questions. Being alone for so long has taken a toll on me. I wanted out.
Dr. Barkley: You do know that despite how you feel, we are unable to let you leave. We need to continue studying you and learning what you are and what you could be capable of.
SCP-XXXX: I know, but it hurts. (Looks at the ceiling of the cell) I just want to see the sun, enjoy my life, be able to see new things. Maybe I could lay in a grassy field, looking up at the stars above, allowing myself to be carefree for just a moment. (A sad look appears on its face as it looks back at Dr. Barkley) Instead, I have to stay here staring at you people through a window for entertainment.
Dr. Barkley: It may be difficult remaining here, but it’s for a good cause. Like I previously said, what you are capable of is still unknown. Releasing you could put many at risk.
SCP-XXXX: I understand why the Foundation believes I should stay away from people, but why couldn’t I just have my own life? I could be free in the wild. You could even monitor me if you would like! To be able to breathe fresh air and have an open sky- That’s a dream to me. That's how I lived before you captured me and imprisoned me here.
Dr. Barkley: You have to stay here because if a citizen discovered you, it could lead to an eventual breach of secrecy once people know something like you exists. While you may not be able to be outside, we might be able to have you help us do some good in the world. We are already studying to see if your venom could help create medicines to save people.
SCP-XXXX: I want to have a purpose that I can personally do, though! I don’t want to just— exist for you to use. There’s so much I could be doing, both here and outside the Foundation.
Dr. Barkley: Until we know more about you, your options are limited. If you want to help others, be cooperative. That'll make us progress faster. We need to stay on topic, SCP-XXXX. What r-
SCP-XXXX: (Cuts Dr. Barkley off) You don’t understand, though! I know I’m still young, but you’ll see why you should’ve just freed me! I can’t explain what I mean at the moment, but I have a greater purpose!
Dr. Barkley: You already have a purpose. That purpose is to help us understand what you are. That is what you are needed for. Society has evolved past needing deities. Them having a reptilian god would only cause trouble.
SCP-XXXX: Will I ever be able to see those who are outside, even if I do not interact? I don't want to be in here forever.
Dr. Barkley: No. That will not be allowed. No contact with the outside is allowed, especially after what you did today.
SCP-XXXX: (Its voice becomes more anxious) I didn't mean to cause trouble! I was just curious! It won't happen again-
Dr. Barkley: We will not believe you saying that it won't happen again. You will have to show us you won't do something like that again.
SCP-XXXX: I wouldn't hurt anyone even if I did get out! Why don't you understand that?
Dr. Barkley: We do understand. We understand that you are capable of actions with fatal consequences. We also know that you are not able to control yourself. You have killed a person while under the watch of the Foundation, SCP-XXXX. That alone gives us enough reason to keep you here.
SCP-XXXX: (Its voice gets quiet) I didn't mean to kill them- I just wanted to protect that other person.
Dr. Barkley: Protecting someone does not mean killing someone. You do not know the extent of your abilities. You are not able to carry out your 'purpose' if you can't keep those around you safe.
SCP-XXXX: But what if something happens? What if another event similar to the one that wiped out me and my people returns? How do you know there isn't already one?
Dr. Barkley: If a situation like that does arise, you will not be the one to help stop it. Staying here will be what is best for everyone. Your new purpose, helping the Foundation and being as cooperative as possible, will ensure that we can properly take care of you, as well as making sure others are safe. You do not need to worry about what happened in the past. For now, without fully understanding you, if something were to go wrong, may it be you got sick or injured, we might not know how to treat it. We want to keep you alive and well.
SCP-XXXX: And others can't help me…?
Dr. Barkley: (Thinks of how to respond) No. We have the tool and resources to keep you alive. You would not survive anywhere else. You are not immortal anymore. You can be killed by outside forces. If you stay here, you will never have to worry about being harmed by accident or by others outside of the Foundation.
SCP-XXXX: (Doesn't speak)
Dr. Barkley: SCP-XXXX? Are you okay?
SCP-XXXX: (Sighs sadly, but nods) Thank you Doctor. I think… I think I am starting to understand what you mean. Thank you for explaining things for me. It means a lot.
Dr. Barkley: It's all good. I am pleased to see you are seeing things from our point of view. It will make things less confusing and less stressful for everyone.
SCP-XXXX: I agree. Hopefully with more communication on both sides, we can come to a common goal and purpose. One that I can follow. One that will aid both me and the Foundation.
