Item Number: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored somewhere easily accessible by staff. All staff working at the same site as SCP-XXXX must have at least one close personal relationship with someone they can communicate with daily. While this person can be off-site, it is recommended that site directors encourage friendships among staff to reduce the need for off-site communication. Breaks should be staggered so that at least one staff member is on break at all times, and all staff breaks must have at least thirty minutes of communication with another person. Site staff should be informed of the nature of SCP-XXXX in order to minimize confusion upon the activation of its anomalous effect.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a scarecrow composed of hay covered in canvas. It is dressed in a straw hat and a plaid shirt. SCP-XXXX is 2.5m tall and weighs 22.6kg. Those who interact with SCP-XXXX feel a sense of sadness or empathy for it, and they often describe it as "sad" or "melancholic".
At seemingly random intervals1, SCP-XXXX will trade places with the closest person having a positive social experience, transporting the person to SCP-XXXX's previous location. SCP-XXXX seems to have no effective range, and will always choose the closest person regardless of distance.
SCP-XXXX seems to only be capable of trading places with people who are currently experiencing higher than average dopamine levels as a result of social interaction. How SCP-XXXX is aware of this is unknown. Noticeably, SCP-XXXX does not trade places with anyone who lacks empathy or is incapable of feeling genuine emotion2 even if they are producing dopamine as a result of social interaction.
Addendum XXXX-A: Discovery
SCP-XXXX was discovered in 1989-██-█, in the home of the ████████ family in rural Kansas. SCP-XXXX had been acquired by the ████████ three days prior and had been placed in their field. At 19:08, SCP-XXXX traded places with ██ ████████, and placed him in the middle of his field, after which he alerted police. A foundation agent planted in the █████████ county Sherrif's department noted the anomalous nature of the incident and reported it to the foundation. All persons involved were successfully administered Class-A amnestics.
