Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9053 is to be kept inside a Faraday cage containment chamber at Site-19. The device must remain unplugged at all times, exceptions being during authorized testing. Access to SCP-9053 requires Level 3+ clearance. Testing on SCP-9053 must be approved and supervised by one or more Level 4+ clearance researchers. Subjects that have been in contact with Channel 88 must undergo psychological testing. Requests to alter the dial past Channel 90 require O5-3 authorization.
Description: SCP-9053 is a cathode-ray-tube television from the 1980s–1990s. SCP-9053 has 100 channels. Subjects that have viewed Channel 88 have had major changes in psychological behavior, wanting to be in contact with SCP-9053 constantly. On all other channels, SCP-9053 either shows broadcasts from the 1960s–1970s, programs or broadcasts that have never existed, or news from the future. After prolonged contact with Channel 88, subjects start to show signs of illness. This will ultimately lead to the subject's death. Subjects that have developed illness from SCP-9053 after prolonged contact with Channel 88 will be classed as SCP-9053-X.
Addendum 43-A – Discovery: SCP-9053 was discovered inside Mrs. ██████’s home inside a private estate in ██████. Mrs. ██████ had not been seen or heard from for around one and a half weeks. The police were called for a welfare check at 6:43 PM and found Mrs. ██████ deceased in her armchair. The officers on scene noted that there was an “old CRT TV on Channel 88 playing some 1960s TV show.” This drew the O5 Council’s attention. At 8:12 PM, Mobile Task Force Nu-7 was sent to the estate to retrieve SCP-9053. SCP-9053 was unplugged from the wall and the channel was altered to Channel 0. Nu-7 successfully contained SCP-9053 and brought it to Site-19.
Addendum 88-B – First Verbal Event: Dr. Daniels and Dr. Hannah W. were observing SCP-9053 from behind reinforced glass when audio equipment appeared to pick up the phrase “Let me out.” from SCP-9053. Dr. Daniels then expressed head pain in the recording and collapsed. After this incident, Dr. Daniels stated he heard a voice saying “Let me out,” “You know you want to,” and “Do it.” Dr. Hannah W. went under psychological testing, but nothing appeared wrong with her.
