SCP-XXXX upon retrieval

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Outside of testing, one D-Class is to be regularly guarding SCP-XXXX's containment chamber in shifts of no longer than five hours, while maintaining closest proximity to SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a plastic toy karaoke machine capable of vibrating the air and surrounding objects to create sound identifiable as radio static. The produced sound will only be directed towards the nearest individual; with no known limit to the range.

SCP-XXXX was discovered discarded after reports were picked up of SCP-XXXX's anomalous radio static affecting passersby. After the origin of the sound was determined to be SCP-XXXX, it was contained and all civilians involved were given amnestics.

Addendum: It has been stated from several D-Class assigned to guard SCP-XXXX that the audio produced has begun to change over time. Rapidly shifting in sound quality. Testing of these claims and whether the changes in audio are anything of note is currently ongoing.

Interviewed: D-5753

Interviewers: Dr Sebastian Atkinson and Dr Skylar Brooks

Foreword: D-5753 is being questioned about his account of guarding SCP-XXXX.

<Begin Log>

Dr Atkinson: Good afternoon. We're just doing another interview for the record. I have with me senior researcher Brooks. She'd just like to hear what you told me earlier.

D-5753: Oh right. Well, what do you want me to say exactly?

Dr Atkinson: Just say what you told me earlier.

D-5753: Ok. So, you know how the sound that old toy makes has been changing about a bit lately?

Dr Brooks: Right. We've been monitoring that for some time now.

D-5753: Of course. Well, it's not changing anymore. We can hear him now.

Dr Brooks: Him?

D-5753: Yeah, all the radio static has stopped and now it's just this little kid crying.

Dr Brooks: Interesting, does he say anything?

D-5753: Sometimes he'll ask for help and talk about how he's in complete darkness, but he mainly cries.

Dr Brooks: And what does he say when you talk to him?

D-5753: I don't think he can actually hear us. He hasn't responded to anything. He just keeps crying. Sounds like he's in a bad place.

Dr Brooks: Hmm, is that all?

Dr Atkinson: Yes I believe it is. D-5753, you may leave now.

D-5753 leaves the debriefing room.

Dr Atkinson: So? What should we do about this?

Dr Brooks: About what?

Dr Atkinson: About the kid.

Dr Brooks: I don't see a need to do anything.

Dr Atkinson: Why not? Now we know that there's a kid connected to this we can try and find out who they are. I feel like something really bad has happened to them. We know where we got the toy from. All we have to do is look at any records in the area, maybe a missing person case or something, and we can figure out who they are.

Dr Brooks: And then what?

Dr Atkinson: Well, from there we could look into why this might have happened to him. Maybe a way to change it.

Dr Brooks: That all sounds like a waste of time. Nothing about this new development will change it's containment needs.

Dr Atkinson: Please, we've got to do something to help them out. You didn't hear him crying. You didn't hear how desperate he sounded.

Dr Brooks: Listen, Seb, we don't have the time nor the resources to deal with this right now and that's that. Now I'm going to go because I have more important things to do than this. Next time just keep it as an email.

Researcher Sebastian Atkinson has submitted a request to transcribe any notable audio produced by SCP-XXXX. This request has been approved by senior researcher Skylar Brooks. These transcriptions can be seen in the file below

Interviewed: Dr Sebastian Atkinson

Interviewer: Dr Skylar Brooks

Foreword: Recording was taken from the desk of Dr Brooks during a meeting with Dr Atkinson.

<Begin Log>

Dr Brooks: Good to see you, Seb. Thank you for coming.

Dr Atkinson: It's good to see you too. What did you want to talk to me about?

Dr Brooks: That's the thing, it's about SCP-XXXX. You need to stop.

Dr Atkinson: Stop?

Dr Brooks: Yes stop. You've been sitting in its containment chamber day in day out trying to make notes about what is usually incoherent ramblings. I'm sorry I ever approved your request.

Dr Atkinson: What are you talking about? I think I've made some real progress with him. Just a little more time and we could get a real breakthrough.

Dr Brooks: What are you even trying to achieve here? Where does knowing anything about this kid get you?

Dr Atkinson: I just think that if we knew more about what's happened here we could do something to help. It's a kid, we can't just leave him alone like that.

Dr Brooks: Listen, while I understand where you're coming from, you can't tear yourself up about something you can't control. Even if you are coming from a place of good intentions, I can't allow you to keep up these transcriptions. I'm going to have to ask you to stop until you can keep your emotions in line. Do you understand?

Dr Atkinson: Yes, I understand.

Dr Brooks: Good, I guess that's all for now. Thank you for your time.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: After this meeting, Dr Atkinson has temporarily been moved to a separate containment team until further notice.
