SCP-XXXX in an inactive state
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Both entrances to the tunnel containing SCP-XXXX are to be obstructed with construction tape and cones, with no less than 2 personnel dressed in standard construction worker fatigues stationed at each entrance with the cover story of an ongoing asbestos removal construction project. 2 meter chain link fences fashioned with opaque privacy screen fabric are to remain placed along the entrances behind the stations with one fence segment on each including a similarly opaque door. The doors are to remain locked with an electronic combination keypad handle, the combinations for each of which are to be separately randomized monthly and site personnel to be issued combinations verbally by the highest ranking personnel assigned on-site at the time. Failure by personnel to memorize combinations is grounds for re-assignment.
Due to the unpredictability of the nature of SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX is to remain between 2 blast-proof, heat-resistant, lead-lined concrete walls of 2.5 meter thickness covered with construction tarp and scaffolding as to obscure the walls and maintain cover. The entrances on both sides must contain a decontamination lock comprised of two (2) 1 meter titanium bulkheads plated with lead. Keycard scanners connected to the bulkheads are to only allow access to Class C or higher personnel. In event of contaminants or extreme danger present in the chamber, all on-staff personnel are to follow Procedure XXXX-P-1.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an aluminum ventilation shaft and an incandescent light bulb, both embedded within the roof of a traffic tunnel on ████ ██████ Street, Los Angeles, California.
The shaft, hereby designated SCP-XXXX-1, is approximately 1 meter in diameter with identical proportions throughout, curving southeast at its opening. It contains a defunct fan motor near the base, the power line for which runs along SCP-XXXX-1 then terminates approximately 2 meters from the base. Interior cable camera and drone visual probes have allowed for vertical movement beyond the exterior dimensions of SCP-XXXX-1 (see Test XXXX-T-1). The motorized fan inside the SCP-XXXX-1 is absent and has been since Foundation acquisition. The incandescent light bulb, hereby designated SCP-XXXX-2, is located 1.5 meters adjacent to the tunnel's opening side. While SCP-XXXX is inactive, SCP-XXXX-2 is green. SCP-XXXX-2 is immobile at its installation point and does not require a power source to function.
SCP-XXXX was brought to Foundation attention on ██/██/195█ by Agent [REDACTED] after reports of a "large boulder crushing a car" in the tunnel containing SCP-XXXX were picked up on LAPD police radio. The boulder, the first recorded SCP-XXXX-A, was recovered by foundation personnel for testing (details in Recovery Log) and the incident was covered up with a Foundation misinformation campaign regarding the tunnel's roof requiring reconstruction. Cover story was changed to asbestos removal on ██/██/196█.
SCP-XXXX-1 will, at intervals with no yet calculated pattern, produce an inanimate item of a seemingly completely random origin of any size smaller or equal to the clearance of SCP-XXXX-1's opening and larger or equal to 3cm on any side, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-A, through the shaft (items recovered are logged in Recovery Log). SCP-XXXX-A appear to have a larger likelihood of terrestrial origins based on recovery data. Precisely 300 seconds (5 minutes) prior to a SCP-XXXX-1 activation, SCP-XXXX-2 turns red. It returns to its inactive green state after the item leaves SCP-XXXX-1. Attempts to locate the origin of SCP-XXXX-A have been inconclusive, as the interior of SCP-XXXX-1 is seemingly infinite and the object consistently falls from above camera placements during activation. SCP-XXXX-A have been observed to "disappear" completely from their previous location anywhere between 2-48 hours before SCP-XXXX-1 activation, with larger items consistently taking longer, as seen in Activation Event 02 (see Recovery Log).
