Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a padded black jewelry case, wrapped in opaque black cloth, inside a standard Safe-class-object locker at Site-64. SCP-XXXX is under no circumstances to be exposed to any light outside of approved testing. Tests on SCP-XXXX may only be performed by researchers with level 3 clearance or higher, who have passed a psychological evaluation within the month before testing, and who have submitted a valid experiment outline for the tests in question.
Personnel (excluding D-class) are forbidden access to SCP-XXXX if someone they knew has recently (in the past 3 years) died.
Mishandling or abuse of SCP-XXXX will result in immediate disciplinary action, and permanent relocation of offending personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small glass prismatic figurine in the shape of an angel. It is 8cm tall, 4cm wide at the base. When exposed to light with no humans present, SCP-XXXX will behave as a non-anomalous prism. When exposed light levels over 5 lux, and a human subject within approximately a 3 meter radius of itself, SCP-XXXX will produce entities, referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. Only one of these entities has been observed manifesting at a time.
SCP-XXXX-1 instances are colourful, luminescent, selectively tangible, and translucent humanoid entities, whose specific features vary based on the subject within the range of SCP-XXXX. The instances always assume the form of a deceased person that the subject was familiar with prior to their death, but outside of this condition, the selection of which deceased person is replicated appears to be random. Whether the subject is aware the person being replicated has died has been proven to be irrelevant. Once created, instances will take an immediate interest in the subject; typically seeking conversation and as soon as they appear.
Conversing with instances of SCP-XXXX-1 has an immediate effect on the subject; spikes in hormone levels. During interaction with SCP-XXXX-1, rates of oxytocin and dopamine production are radically increased, and once the interaction has ended, these return to normal and rates of progesterone production are increased by a similar margin over the course of about a week. This has an addictive effect on repeat subjects, and the effects have been notably more potent on subjects who had recently experienced the death of someone versus those who had not.
Humans other than the original subject in a session that converse with instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have not displayed any of these, or other, effects.
SCP-XXXX-1 instances seem to have all the memories their living counterparts had possessed prior to their death, as well as memories of any past appearances the specific instance has had. During interviews, subjects reported that the behavior of instances of SCP-XXXX-1 were remarkably similar to that of the person they were replicating.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 often claim they are the “souls” of the deceased individuals they take the form of, but this has not been proven.
Instances usually last around 2 hours before disappearing, seemingly by choice. Attempts to physically harm these entities have all failed, as they adjust their tangibility to render any weapons useless, and they do not need to eat or breathe, making poisoning and asphyxiation ineffective. Entities can be forced to disappear if the light source is extinguished or if the subject leaves the range of SCP-XXXX, but can appear again should the same subject re-enter the range and light be restored to the required level.
Addendum: Interview Log
Interviewer: D-42863, formerly Max Marshell, son of Lia.
Foreword: D-42863 was instructed to sit at a table within the range of SCP-XXXX, which was positioned under a lit spotlight, and to ask the entity that appears some questions that had been given to him beforehand. SCP-XXXX-Lia appeared shortly after he sat down, and took a seat as well.
