Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4423 is to be kept in a small locked iron box, about 3 inches thick, locked with 3 different types of locks, a bike lock, a combination lock, and a key lock. The key should be discarded into a pocket dimension or the like. The locked box containing SCP-4423 should be contained in a room of it's own, a standard Keter class object cell will do. Two level 4 guards should be stationed outside the door at all times, and guards should be rotated every month and should have a psychiatric evaluation afterwards. After a break period of a month said guards can be rotated back in. Personnel need a clearance of 3 or higher to enter 4423's cell and must enter with at least 2 others. No words should be spoken within a 10 foot radius of SCP-4423 and no names, nicknames, titles, or anything of the sort should be written or worn. In the event of a containment breach immediate evacuation should take place, the location and nearby settlements should be destroyed, and all surviving personnel should undergo a heavy dosage of a Class C Amnestic in the aftermath. If you are not able to evacuate then pray for a quick end.
Description: SCP-4423 is an old empty book that appears to be hand made, the brown leather is dull and worn, and the pages inside are yellowed. This SCP really poses minimal threat and should be deemed Euclid at best, but thanks to it's anomalous powers that is not the case. SCP-4423 has the ability to inflict severe paranoia about itself, afflicted people will become convinced that SCP-4423 is a highly dangerous Keter class object with the ability to end the world and will take the precautions necessary to do so. This includes the specifications in the Containment Procedure document, but also a few other things that people have done in order to ensure safety. Ritualistic sacrifices of animals such as cats, goats, bovine, and even a chimpanzee, have been undertaken by staff members severely afflicted by SCP-4423. This being said, 4423 has no effect on aggression towards others and all actions are taken out of a "necessity."
Addendum 1: May 14th [REDACTED]
Item Discovery
The following are the frantic notes of one Doctor Lee after SCP-4423 was discovered having randomly appeared in his desk. Please mind the spelling errors, he was undergoing a severe panic attack.
"I don't know if you will recieve this, i may be dead when you do. This THING is evol. it is pure evil and it is giong to kill us all. Its over, say goodbye to your loved ones this is it. I can hardely take my eyes off of it, Im frozem in fear i cant call for help nothing. this thing is killing me i can feel it. WHAT DEOS IT WANT??? If you find this lokc it away for good never let it see the light of day. I doontknow where it came from or why it is here but it is bad very bad. tell my wife i love herand to take care of our son goodbye."
Doctor Lee was found unconscious on the floor next to his desk and the book was immediately taken and placed in it's current containment cell. Doctor Lee and all parties involved made speedy recoveries and the effects of the book faded after 48 hours.

Addendum 2: June 21st [REDACTED]
4423 was already tormenting any and all staff that worked on that side of the building after only a month of containment, it has an effect radius of about 500 or so feet. Many had to be transferred due to the constant paranoia and panic attacks they felt when near SCP-4423. Luckily 4423 has no long term effects and once an afflicted person exits a space of around 500 feet, and stays away for about 48 hours, all adverse effects should wear off.

Subject: SCP-4423
One D class personnel was instructed to simply sit inside the containment room with SCP-4423 for 1 hour and describe what had occurred. Cameras were also placed inside the room that directly connected to the doctors who were situated on the other side off the building.
D-474901, male, age 26, no prior mental health record, convicted of child molestation and resisting arrest, entered the room and immediately began to bang on the door for release. He was screaming about the book being evil and wanting to kill him, however the door remained shut and Dr. Bell urged D-474901 to remain calm. D-474901 did not listen and continued to scream and bang at the door until the hour was up. While at the psychiatric evaluation he could not speak and merely whimpered when the book was mentioned. He was given a Class C Amnestic and sent on his way.

Addendum 3: August 30th [REDACTED]
Animals are no longer prohibited anywhere near SCP-4423's containment unite after one janitor was caught giving a dead chimpanzee as an offering to the book. The janitor was bathed in the chimpanzee's blood, assumedly from the large laceration on it's neck, and was stabbing the cadaver multiple times while repeating. "Spare this facility, oh dark one. Take this offering and spare us."
The janitor was taken to the medical wing and treated for his borderline psychosis. As for the room, the corpse was removed but no one dared to go inside to clean up the blood. The janitor made a full recovery after 72 hours and was transferred to another facility.
