Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
There are currently no known methods of containing SCP-XXXX or altering its behaviour.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is an emerging entity that only occurs when executing various simple, choice-based games, most notably those, that are frequently examined in Game Theory, for example the Prisoner's Dilemma. However, games with no definite winning strategy, such as Rock Paper Scissors can be affected aswell.
Furthermore, SCP-XXXX will only manifest when the game supports only two players, said players only have 2 to 5 choices in each round and if the game is (theoratically) indefinitely playable.
Lastly, SCP-XXXX will only manifest, if the game is being played by programmed actors, where atleast one of those actors is using a strategy in which it picks choices each round at random. The algorithm used for those random choices must be based on hardware random number generators.
If all those conditions are met, SCP-XXXX may on rare occasions take the place of an actor (that is choosing at random) and play the game in their stead.
SCP-XXXX's playstyle is divided into two phases.
The first phase lasts 400 rounds. Here, SCP-XXXX will pick two of its available choices and iterate through them in a consistent pattern. Rather than playing the game, SCP-XXXX is conveying a string of bits, using the aforementioned two choices as tokens for 0s and 1s. When interpreting the string of bits as an 8-Bit ASCII text, the following message will emerge:
"Howdy partner, welcome to the we are playing the ."
After the 400th round, phase two begins.
In this phase, SCP-XXXX will consistently outplay his opponent. SCP-XXXX seemingly gets to make its choice after his opponent, and with the information of their choice. This behaviour has not been observed to change and will last until the game has ended.
Addendum 1:
Some tests have been conducted, in which one of the actors is programmed to output an ASCII message back to SCP-XXXX during the first phase and using the same two choices that SCP-XXXX uses to convey its message. SCP-XXXX has not yet shown any reaction.
Another test has been conducted, in which the rules of the game itself change, once SCP-XXXX reaches its second phase. Here, the actor playing against SCP-XXXX will gain a 100% win chance against its opponent, no matter what it chooses.
Once this change was set into effect, SCP-XXXX chose not to choose anything, effectivly ending the entire session.
No further tests have yet been able to be conducted.
Addendum 2:
SCP-XXXX seems to be an unavoidable annoyance, but luckily its conditions are restrictive and its occurance rare as well as easy to notice, therefore the effect on future research will be miniscule.
