Item #: SCP- 8065
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP- 8065 is to be kept in a glass box with walls five meters in diameter. The ground of the chamber is to be coated in a layer of sand 3 feet deep, and the top of the glass box is to be exposed to natural sunlight to facilitate the SCPs health.
When entering SCP- 8065's chamber for watering or experimentation, the utmost care must be taken to make no loud noises or sudden moves, as this may ‘scare’ SCP- 8065, triggering its anomalous properties. In the event of a containment breach, personnel wearing cotton bottomed shoes should attempt to approach SCP- 8065, and relocate it back into its containment chamber. This can be achieved by making loud noises to direct the SCP back to its containment chamber, or by gently lifting it up. Should SCP- 8065 be inside a solid object, in its containment walls or otherwise inaccessible, loud noises should be made to encourage SCP- 8065 to leave to a location where it can be more easily picked up by D-Class personnel.
Under no circumstances is fire to be introduced to SCP- 8065.
Description: SCP- 8065 appears as a cactus of varying species both contemporary, unknown or extinct. It can vary greatly in size, though has never been observed larger than 2 meters tall. Notably, it has no roots, yet still seems to draw and require water nourishment from the soil below it.
SCP- 8065's anomalous properties are that when it is ‘scared’ it will teleport a distance of up to seven meters, this teleportation will usually occur in a straight line away from the source of the fear, and can carry it into solid objects. When SCP- 8065 teleports into a solid space, whatever previously occupied this space will be disintegrated and cannot be recovered by any currently known means. SCP- 8065 has been observed jumping into living creatures, when this happens, the part of the being now occupied by SCP- 8065 will be disintegrated as an inorganic mass would be. There appears to be no time limit between SCP- 8065's teleportations. SCP- 8065 appears to have no other form of locomotion.
Additionally, whenever SCP- 8065 is cut into two or more pieces, the smaller piece of SCP- 8065 rapidly regenerates and grows into another instance of the SCP. This instance will be unchanged in the section removed from the 'parent' entity, but all of the new growth will be a new and different species of cactus. These new species are as often contemporary species as they are unknown or extinct, but all appear as something that would in the modern-day be considered a cactus at a glance. The 'parent' entity will also quickly cover the wound in a new layer of outer cactus and will begin to regenerate. The time taken to regenerate seems to drop off relative to age, with older specimens taking longer to regenerate than younger specimens. This appears to be the only way that SCP- 8065 regenerates, and it does not get ‘scared’ when it is cut.
Addendum:
SCP- 8065 Addendum 1, Experiment log //2009
An instance of SCP- 8065 was placed in a secure experimentation chamber with a D class personnel, a guard then made a noise on an opposite angle leading SCP- 8065 to teleport inside D- 3378's chest, leading to his immediate death.
The instance of SCP- 8065 seems to have been unharmed by the experience.
SCP- 8065 Addendum 2, Experiment log //2013
An attempt was made to destroy an instance of SCP- 8065 using fire by researcher [Redacted], as other methods have proved unreliable and the population is larger than convenient. Using a flamethrower, an instance of SCP- 8065 was lit on fire. This led it to teleport repeatedly and rapidly in random directions - damage done to walls led one corridor to collapse, damage to power lines disabled significant parts of site 33s lighting, three persons were injured including one researcher who lost his arm when SCP- 8065 teleported into it, in addition to this several fires were started. The SCP eventually teleported multiple times into solid surfaces and was presumed permanently lost.
Following this event, and the extensive damage done by SCP- 8065, all use of fire on the SCP was permanently banned.
SCP- 8065 Addendum 2b, report //2014
During expansion to site 33, construction crews reported digging up a cactus several meters underground in solid granite. This was later determined to be the instance of SCP- 8065 lost in the experiment done on //2013 by researcher [Redacted].
SCP- 8065 Addendum 3, Memo 27/09/2018
Research onto SCP- 8065’s teleportation and regeneration abilities is hereby strongly encouraged, due to potential benefits of artificially replicating these capabilities.
SCP- 8065 Addendum 4a, Experiment request
Request by researcher [Redacted], Level 3.
Aim: Experiment to test the awareness of SCP- 8065 to threats.
Procedure:
Light a fire directly opposed to SCP- 8065, one meter from it, then along the seven-meter distance of its usual teleportation.
Repeat this experiment several times, if the SCP enters the fire more than twice declare that it has no ability to perceive threats in its surroundings.
SCP- 8065 Addendum 4b, Response
Response by senior researcher [Redacted], Level 4.
Denied. Do you remember what happened last time? Now imagine intentionally doing that a dozen times. The damages would be worth more than both our lives.
